TVO selects Oakville Academy for the ArtsPreschool as filming location
The Oakville Academy for the Arts’ innova-tive and award-winning Preschool Programseizes every opportunity to provide younglearners with the kinds of experiences thatpromote creative and divergent thinkingstyles that will take children deeper into thetwenty-first century.
Ontario's revered public education broad-casting organization, TVO, has taken noticeof the inspiring work and learning unfoldingwithin the walls of the Academy's preschooland kindergarten classrooms.
Recently, a production crew from the finearts-based children's show, Lisa Mona, whichappears during the well-known Giselle's BigBackyard segments, came to the school to
film a variety of vignettes featuring localPreschool and Kindergarten students attending OAA.
Kim Speer, Director of the Preschool,Kindergarten and Afternoon Arts programs atthe Academy, shares her reaction to the expe-rience: “We were thrilled to be approached byTVO. Their educational objectives for theLisa Mona series mirror our own – to pro-mote the arts as a profound and meaningfulvehicle for self-expression as well as a power-ful tool for making learning concrete andvisible for young children. It really was a per-fect match!”
As a result of her involvement in the film-ing process, Speer now acts as an early learn-
ing arts consultant for the series.
