Bev’s BurnerSome’s Hot, Some’s Not!

Like a thief in the night....A little understood amendment to the Texas Constitution was voted on in Fort Bend on Nov. 8 and the 16,215 people who voted on it did something that even the Attorney General of Texas was unable to do. They made sheriff candidate Craig Brady take down his signs like a thief in the night.

Fort Bend County Pct. 4 Constable Troy Nehls is purport-ed to be contemplating a run as sheriff of Fort Bend. Only prob-lem is, Nehls is currently serving as constable and when and if he officially announces he is run-ning for the sheriff’s office, he is considered to have automatically vacated his constable office IF he announces and has over one year left to serve. Since the election isn’t until November, 2012, that means he would not have a job

for the next year.New laws that went into effect

this year move up the deadline for signing up to run for an office to December instead of the old January deadline. This would have effectively kept Constable Nehls from running for sheriff if he wanted to keep his constable job until the election.

The Proposition 10 constitu-tional amendment increased the unexpired term time from one year to one year and 30 days. This means that Nehls can announce his intention to run by the dead-line and still keep his job for the next year and 30 days while campaigning.

Both Brady and Nehls put out signs urging voters to cast their ballots in a certain way. Nehls was ethically correct in his signs, using his name and urging only a

vote “for” the proposition. Brady used so much room on his sign putting his name and the ethically challenged “sheriff” on his sign and urging voters to vote “No” on the measure. Only problem was, there wasn’t a “No” on the ballot, just “for” or “against.”

But then no one ever said Brady was very smart. A bully, but not smart.

In Fort Bend, the vote to extend the length of the unexpired term to make it possible for a currently serving official to seek a new job, the Prop 10 vote, carried by 56.79%. The final vote was FOR 9,208 --AGAINST 7,007. Almost overnight the “No signs” disap-peared.

Since Deputy Brady had his undercover narc squad put out the signs in broad daylight, one can only suppose he used them to take the signs down after a resounding defeat.

The best Democrat ad.... Somebody needs to tell the Republicans to stop with the debates. Each new debate expos-es some new stupid people trick among the Republican contend-ers. It’s just plain embarrassing.

Rick Perry has early onset dementia with his memory prob-lems. Now we know why Perry refused to debate either Bill White or Kay Hutchinson during the Texas governor’s race. I guess we all have an idea there would have been a different outcome to that race had we known. (I always

knew. I asked you months ago if you had any buyer’s remorse. Five old men called and canceled their subscriptions after my com-ment. Punish me!)

Herman Cain displays comical ignorance and can only answer each question with 9-9-9. I sub-scribe to Bill Maher’s comment that Herman Cain proves that Republicans don’t like black men unless they are stupid.

Michele Bachmann has been hypnotized with her voice stuck in fingernail-on-the-blackboard mode. Michele isn’t stupid. There’s something else wrong with her. And she needs her medi-cation changed.

Mitt Romney’s magic under-wear is riding up and causing him to talk tough about Iran when neither he nor any of his five sons have ever served one day in any Armed Services, except maybe the Mormon requirement of one year of missionary service.

Newt Gringrich is surging in the polls, leading some to believe he is looking for another wife. Seems every time Newt does well, he walks out on his current wife.

Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman are the only two candidates who seem to have a lick of sense and they are trailing badly in the polls.

Yep, the best Democratic ads will be excerpts from the Republican debates. GOP Chairman Reince Priebus should pull the plug on future debates.

Writers wanted......The Star is currently seeking free lance writers to cover specific parts of the county. We need people inter-ested in their community with the ability to tell an interesting story and inform their neighbors about the area.

This is a part-time job. If you are interested, please send me writing samples, a short bio, and tell me why you would like to do this. Send to [email protected]

Reader says Tea Party exposedDear Editor,

I want to congratulate the Star for publishing, “What if an honor killing happened in Sugar Land?” because it exposed the Sugar Land Tea Party’s idea of Justice

as, “Just Us!” Their whiney-butt jeremiad refused to concede that they purposely staged a divi-sively provocative Islamophobic event in a community with a raw wound from last June’s campaign smear--and a community poked back. As Garrison Keillor would say, “If you didn’t mean to go to Chicago, then why did you get on the train?”

Sincerely,Earl Divoky

By Elsa MaxeyTaste of Sugar Land…was

sweet and so much more! The extraordinary evening of food, entertainment, fun, and friendship this past Sunday at Safari Texas benefitted three Fort Bend Community Partners – Fort Bend Women’s Center, Fort Bend Family Promise, and East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.

The 9th annual “Taste,” host-ed by members and friends of the First Presbyterian Church of

Sugar Land, “felt so good, peo-ple were happy and upbeat, and it kicked off the holiday sea-son,” said Steering Committee organizer Betty Verdino.

Rocky Mountain High, Choo-Choo Elegance, the five foot elephant, Texas sized par-ties and dream weekends were among the live auction pack-ages handled by Fort Bend’s popular auctioneer, Fort Bend County Commissioner James Patterson.

During the country’s eco-

The Grand Martha Stewart Dinner sponsored by Whole Foods Market of Sugar Land went to generous bidder Barbara Shelton for $2,000 dur-ing the Taste of Sugar Land event. Shown l-r are: Mike Yates Consuelo Haller, Barbara Shelton, and Martha Stewart.

Taste of Sugar Land about sharing the bountynomic recession, the charity organizations to benefit from the event “have become increas-ingly important to the individu-als and families they serve,” states Lee Shelton, Chairman of Taste of Sugar Land. His appreciation was extended to all the participating restaurants,

caterers, merchants, churches, musicians and the volunteers.

An “Eat with Pete” dinner (a/k/a) U.S. Congressman Pete Olson, and his wife, Nancy, is set at the Safari Texas Ranch on January 22, This item also stood out as one of the items. It too, will benefit the charities.

Proceeds from the event will help support families with chil-dren that are homeless, survi-vors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their chil-dren, and the funds will also help with a food pantry and assistance center.

Staffordshire road work near completion

By Elsa MaxeyStaffordshire Road, cur-

rently under construction in Stafford, is expected to be “substantially completed” by the end of the year, accord-ing to City Engineer Charles Russell. He recently told city council that the work from U.S. 90A to Fifth Street would undergo a traffic flow swap, which took effect on Friday last week.

The traffic had been mov-ing both ways on the west side and it was swapped over to the east side of the road to allow construction on the other side. “The last piece of pavement, from First Street to Fifth Street,” he said, would represent the final part of the project.

Russell also said that a Staffordshire Road extension will be reviewed for fund-ing this week by the Texas Transportation Commission. Once the city gets the thumbs up for state fund-ing, he said Stafford would need to alert consulting firms about a request for proposals. That project timeline would call for having plans before December 2012, or the early

part of 2013, about three months before the project would be let, that is, adver-tised for bids.

For the U.S. 90A enhance-ments, Russell said he spoke to TxDOT this month and he anticipates the roadway to be finished the first quarter of 2012. He said the comple-tion time on the project was suspended because of issues having to do with the bases of the illumination poles. A change order involves their relocation and repair affect-ing about 12 of the light pole foundations. The city will be installing 20-25 poles on U.S. 90A. They will serve to enhance the city’s appear-ance, a project on that cor-ridor that started some two years ago transforming the look of the city.

Other current infra-structure improvements in Stafford include the con-struction underway on Dulles Avenue, also taking place in a portion of Sugar Land. “It seems like the traffic issues have calmed down,” said Russell, but if motorists can avoid the road, it is recom-mended that they do so.

Fort Bend ISD’s 2011 NCEA higher performing schools recognized

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA), a department of ACT, Inc., recognized Fort Bend ISD for having 12 schools in their district make the 2011 NCEA Higher Performing Schools List.

The following schools received the honor and Higher Performing (HP) recognition in the following areas:

• Austin High School – Math, Reading and Social Studies• Clements High School – Math, Reading and Science• First Colony Middle

School – Math and Writing• Fort Settlement Middle School – Math, Reading and Writing• Garcia Middle School – Writing• Quail Valley Middle School – Math and Reading• Sartartia Middle School – Math, Reading, Social Studies and Writing• Colony Meadows Elementary – Math• C o m m o n w e a l t h

Elementary – Math and Writing• Quail Valley Elementary – Science• Scanlan Oaks Elementary – Writing• Walker Station Elementary – All: Math, Reading, Science and WritingThe Higher Performing

Schools are identified by two measures: consistent improve-ment in student achievement from previous years (growth) and/or absolute student achievement using the school’s Commended Performance results on the spring 2011 TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test.

NCEA’s higher perform-ing methodology controls for school and student demo-graphics allow for an apples-to-apples comparison of school achievement and dem-onstrate that with the commit-ment of educators, all schools can have success no matter the zip code. NCEA provid-ed award certificates to each Higher Performing School and the district.

Voluntary water conservation continues in Sugar Land

Sugar Land continues to encourage voluntary water con-servation as the state continues to experience one of the worst droughts in Texas history.

Rainfall data collected at Sugar Land Regional Airport is well below last year’s average.

Sugar Land residents, home-owner associations and commer-cial properties are asked to limit outdoor irrigation to no more than two days a week; however, the following voluntary restric-tions have been lifted:

• The odd/even address schedule is no longer necessary.

• There are no longer time restrictions for watering; resi-dents may choose the time of day to water.

With weather forecasts pre-dicting very little precipitation during the normally wet winter and spring months, water provid-ers across the state are keeping restrictions in place to preserve the state’s water resources.

“Sustainable water sources are one of our top priorities,” said Water Resources Manager Colleen Spencer. “Even though the City has secured adequate resources to meet demands and adhere to future subsidence dis-trict regulations that will limit groundwater withdrawals, water conservation should be a top pri-ority for all of us.”

For more information on the city’s voluntary irrigation restrictions, call the Sugar Land Utilities Department at (281) 275-2450.

High School Football Roundup

By Sean Wolfson

Well folks, both teams, Elkins Knights and Dulles Vikings got

absolutely blown off the play-off map last weekend. Pearland looked like the state champion that they are and sent Elkins pack-ing in Alvin, and Clear Springs ate Dulles at Pasadena Memorial stadium.

Here are my picks for best players, coaching, and other nota-bles in the district this year. Coach

of the year- Barry Abercrombie, Hightower - they advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Lineman of the year- Shalom O. of Kempner. He will be play-ing on your TV next year on Saturday afternoons. He’s one of the best in the U.S. and the best chance FBISD has out of this year’s class to go Pro. QB of the year - Jake Burkhalter of Elkins, with Kyle Coulter of Travis, com-ing in a close 2nd. Running Back of the year- Demarcus Cobb of

Clements. Wide Receiver of the year- Chance Allen of Elkins. LB of the year- Myklebust of Austin. Defensive MVP- Corey Thompson of Elkins.

I’ve been watching FBISD football since 1988 and here is what needs to be done in order to get this talented group of kids to the next level. FBISD needs to pay their coaches more in order to attract and keep quality coach-es. The moment a FBISD coach has success, he is out the door,

recruited by another district who is paying him more.

Fort Bend has never fully grasped how important the les-sons taught in sports are to a young person. I remember going to play tennis tournaments for Clements back in 1990-94 and the district gave us 5 bucks a day to eat on. Really?

They also need to put grass or field turf on the 2 main stadiums to attract better talent to play our

boys in preseason. Astro turf is the cheapest thing money can buy and is like playing on cement. Kids break bones, etc., way to easily. I’ve watched it over and over.

Congrats to all the FBISD foot-ball teams on a great season. I’m thrilled to cover you guys. See you next season. I wish all of you a very happy and healthy holiday season with family and friends.

The Sugar Land Skeeters announced the start of the“Name Your Mascot” contest

“Our mascot is a character that will always be with us, whether it is the preseason, postseason or off season,” said Christopher Hill, Skeeters Vice-President for Business Development. “Our mascot will stay with us forever and will become the face of the organization in the community. When people see our mascot out and about, they will think Sugar Land Skeeters.”

The mascot will be named by the children of Sugar Land and surrounding communi-ties. Children must go online to the team website (www.SugarLandSkeeters.com) and download a form to color and submit to the organization. Forms will also be available at the Pro Shop located in Sugar Land Town Center. Kids ages 13 and younger are encouraged to write-in their favorite name for the new mascot.

The winner of the contest will be named President of the Kroger Kids Club for the 2012 season. The President will receive honor-ary membership in the Kroger Kids Club as well as four tick-ets to the historic opening day game on April 26, 2012. The con-test will run from now through November 25.

The mascot was created by Dave Raymond of Raymond Entertainment Group. Raymond pioneered the field of sports mas-cots with his innovative inhabi-tation of the world-renowned Phillie Phanatic. He was the original Phanatic, and his vision and performance skill spawned a revolution in the mascot industry.

StarTex Power Field will play host to a multitude of other sport-ing events including football, soc-cer, lacrosse, cheerleading and band competitions, as well as

concerts, group outings and scout sleepovers. Fixed-seat stadium capacity is approximately 6,200 for baseball, plus additional lawn and standing room only tickets. StarTex Power Field has a capac-ity of over 10,000 in concert con-figuration.

The Skeeters may be reached atwww.SugarLandSkeeters.com or by calling 281-240-HITS (4487), and on Facebook (face-book.com/SugarLandSkeeters) and Twitter (@SL_Skeeters).

Prudential Gary Greene Launches Multicultural DivisionPrudential Gary Greene,

REALTORS announced today the launch of its Multicultural-International Real Estate Division. The Division has been established to service the cultural and lan-guage nuances of Houston’s rap-idly growing multicultural popu-lation.

“With the Asian and Hispanic population growing at three times the rate of the traditional home-buying population, there is a need to accommodate the cul-tural and language traditions of this home-buying segment,” said Mark Woodroof, partner with Prudential Gary Greene.

The launch of the Multicultural Division will be the largest and most comprehensive program of its kind set in motion by any real estate brokerage in Houston.

“We have designed the

Multicultural Division to help meet the client’s needs by analyz-ing demographic changes, under-standing purchasing behavior and recognizing life cycle stages. Our goal is to reach this con-sumer base with impactful and culturally correct service,” said Cathy Trevino, director of the Multicultural Division.

The official launch of the Multicultural Division will kick off with a “Fiesta Patrias” cel-ebration on September 16, Mexican Independence Day, from 11:00am – 12:30pm at the Lakeshore Recreation Center, 15909 Harbour Light Drive, Houston, 77044.

For more information about Prudential Gary Greene’s Multicultural Division, please contact Cathy Trevino at 713-516-6331 or [email protected].

Houston Association of Realtors® achieves a ‘Technology Trifecta’Fresh on the heels of its

Android application launch, the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR) is now making its acclaimed prop-erty search app available for the iPad. As with the Android app and the iPhone app before it, this latest app extends the wide range of innovative fea-tures that are available on the Association’s popular HAR.com website to the iPad screen.

“The popularity of the iPad made developing an app for that device a no-brain-er,” said Carlos P. Bujosa, HAR Chairman and VP at Transwestern. “Starting with the iPhone app last year, the Android app that we introduced in September and now the iPad app, the HAR technology team has done a masterful job of making the property search tools that millions of real estate consumers use on HAR.com available to portable devices. We see this as a technology trifecta.”

The HAR.com iPad app allows consumers and HAR members alike to search for homes for sale or lease any-where throughout greater Houston area. Consumers can

rely on the award-winning resi-dential property search engine to find a home, bookmark list-ings and view their property search history.

One of the most impor-tant features of the HAR.com apps is that they allow HAR members who subscribe to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS)—the database for prop-erty listings—to access MLS data, their leads, listings and their brokerages’ listing inven-tory. MLS subscribers will also have access to Agent Full Report, Property Archive Report, Showing Instructions, Days on Market and Tax Profile Report.

The 2010 launch of the iPhone application represented the first time an MLS provided access to a portable device. This was a significant boon to REALTORS®, as it enabled them to quickly and easily access property data while on the go.

Consumers and HAR mem-bers using the HAR.com mobile app enjoy the following features:

• Award-winning residential property search engine to find homes for sale or lease in the

greater Houston area.• Wide range of search filters

such as by proximity, price, square footage and more.

• Maps that automatically refresh to display listings when one pans/moves across the map surface.

• MLS listing information that is updated every 15 min-utes.

• Most comprehensive list-ing details include price, room dimensions, interior and exte-rior features, open house sched-ule and more.

• Easy slide-through photo galleries for each listing (includes up to 16 photos).

• Enhanced Google mapping with Street View.

• Ability to bookmark favor-ite listings.

• Ability to view a history of searches.

• Ability to quickly and eas-ily contact the listing agent or broker.

The app also features a con-sumer feedback button as part of HAR’s commitment to pro-vide tools and services that best serve consumer needs.

More than 200,000 consum-ers are currently registered through HAR.com to receive updates about active property listings that are of interest to them. More than 1.2 million consumers rely on HAR.com for Houston-area real estate information and account for 1.5 billion hits each month to the website.

To download the free HAR.com iPad app, visit the iTunes store and search for “HAR.com.” For all HAR mobile ini-tiatives, go to www.har.com/mobile.

FLAT FOOT SURGERYThe type of foot deformity that is characterized by a closed-up arch, with

the entire sole of the foot touching the ground, is called “flat foot.” When this condition occurs, which can be very painful, the joints are rendered unstable and walking may be difficult. Various exercises and muscle training may alleviate the issues. However, if those attempts prove to be fruitless, surgery may be recommended so that a permanent correction of the condition can be achieved. During this procedure, which is usually recommended when the patient is an adolescent, an arch is created in the foot. Part of the procedure entails the fusion of tendon joints as well as the cleaning and repairing of the tendon.

Flat foot is a disorder with many different levels of pain. There are many different types of flat footedness. Our physicians and staff are dedi-cated to using the latest research and most advanced technology to deliver exceptional podiatric care our patients. Two Different Types of BronchitisA typical sign of acute bronchitis is a cough that lasts for at least 5

days, possibly several weeks. In contrast, chronic bronchitis is a condition that affects persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). With chronic bronchitis, the cough lasts for at least 3 months, and occurs at least once per year over two years in a row. Acute bronchi tis is typically caused by an infection with a virus in the upper airway, which leads to inflammation of the lungs. Influenza viruses may cause acute bronchitis. A fever may indicate that influenza is the cause of the condition. Symptoms similar to those of the common cold may also be present with acute bronchitis.

For treatment of cold symptoms of acute bronchitis, nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen, and nasal decongestants may help. With rare exceptions, antibiotics should typically not be used for treatment of acute bronchitis since a virus rather than bacteria is most commonly the cause of the condition. For persons infected with influ enza viruses, the neuraminidase inhibitors oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza) may be prescribed. For persons diagnosed with COPD experiencing an exacerbation, albuterol (Proventil, Ventolin) and ipratropium (Atrovent) are shortacting inhaled medications that may be prescribed.

Shown delivering a wagon of pumpkins to a customer’s car is LVE stu-dent, Kyler Ross.

Opening day of the Farmers Market at Imperial, presented by the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, was a success for young Lakeview Elementary School (LVE) vendors, who raised more than $700 from the sale of their market merchan-dise.

As a fundraiser for their school, the students joined their parents and members of the LVE staff in setting up a pump-kin patch and school booth from which they sold popcorn, lem-onade and other items to people visiting the market. Their booth became a popular hangout for some as evident by the long lines of patrons waiting to pur-chase their merchandise.

The LVE group sold out of lemonade within the first two hours of the event, and then relied on the sale of pumpkins to further support their fundraiser. By the end of the day, the group had sold 73 pumpkins from its pumpkin patch!

On behalf of City Council, Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen welcomed Oyster Creek Manor to the commu-nity at the Thursday, Oct. 27 building dedication for the assisted living and memory care facility. The building is the first phase in a project created by Wallace Bajjali Development Partners.

“Missouri City is an ideal location for this mixed-use

transitional living develop-ment,” said Mayor Owen, noting that it will also include an independent living facil-ity, premier active-adult patio homes and commercial parcels. “As our population ages and as grandparents determine they want to be closer to their children here in Missouri City, this over-all project of Wallace-Bajjali provides an ideal option.”

Haenel said this year Fort Bend Christian Academy will be on hand to provide entertainment and cheerleaders from Travis High School and Kempner High School will add spark to the event.

This event, better known as the Battle of the Bend, is more than a football game. It is an opportunity for the law enforcement officers who serve the citizens of Fort Bend County interact with the children of our area with a posi-tive experience with police and

classes for adults. Patrons may learn computer basics such as how to use a computer, how to search the Internet, and how to use Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The University Branch Library will utilize Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in its check-out system. This fea-ture is built in to the outside and inside book drops, and enables items to be automatically checked in as they are returned in the book

After his arrest, Sherman Jones was taken to Oak Bend Medical Center for treatment of super-ficial wounds and a fit for jail slip before being booked into the county jail. Jones was denied bail at the time he was booked into jail.

Lt. Col Tolan served several tours of duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, also other battle grounds. Back here, he attended Fort Bend ISD schools and graduated from Dulles High School in 1988. He then went on to earn a B.S. degree in political science from Texas A&M University with a minor in marketing.

Commissioned in 1995 in the United States Marine Corps, Lt. Col. Toland spent four years on active duty, continued his ser-vice and now serves as a reserve officer. Lt. Col. Toland has been a platoon commander, company executive officer, company com-mander and he is currently the Executive Officer of The Lone Star Battalion, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment headquartered at Ellington Field in Houston.

His training includes the completion of numerous mili-tary schools. In 2005, Lt. Col. Toland conducted a seven month combat deployment to Anbar Province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and

Golf tournament slated for March 2012 to benefit “Hope for Three”Blessed Be, Hope for Three,

a non-profit that focuses on raising community awareness and providing educational and financial support to families with children diagnosed with autism and related disorders, is pleased to have been chosen as one of four charitable organiza-tions that will benefit from the 2012 Golf for Greater Houston (GFGH) tournament. The event will be held on March 26 at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land.

“Hope for Three’s mission of providing hope to families affected by autism, through education and financial assis-tance matches GFGH’s goal of driving change and improving quality of life in the Greater Houston area through educa-tion and community outreach.” - John Schanck, GFGH 2012 Steering Committee Chairman

Formerly known as Golf for Fort Bend, GFGH is orga-nized by employees of Fluor Corporation. Since the tourna-ment’s inception in 2008, it has given more than $340,000 to the local community. Other charities that will benefit from the 2012 event are the ARC of Fort Bend, Casa de Esperanza, and The Children’s Assessment Center.

“As employees of Fluor, we strive to make a sustainable impact where we live and work through community engage-ment, employee volunteerism and philanthropic initiatives ... As this event continues to grow, through the help of the event sponsors and Fluor employees, we can feel confident that we are making a lasting impression on the Greater Houston area. Hope for Three is certainly a worthy charitable organization to receive a portion of the funds realized from GFGH 2012.” – John Dempsey, Fluor Senior Vice President and GFGH 2012 Executive Committee

Playing December 2 - December 18“Little Women: The Musical” rings in holiday season in Sugar Land

Queen Theatre’s debut production, Treasure Island, wowed Fort Bend theatre-goers earlier this autumn. Now Queen Theatre presents Little Women: The Musical, based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved classic novel chronicling the sisters of the March family – Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy.

“The community’s response to Treasure Island was so tre-mendous,” said Executive Director Erika Waldorf. “We feel like Little Women is our holiday gift to Fort Bend. We’ve added some really spe-cial touches, including a live orchestra. Our hope is that fam-ilies will take time out of their frenzied holiday preparations to enjoy a live performance of this American classic.”

Local actresses Katie Harrison, Riley Branning, Pamela M. Moore and Jessica Griffin will play Jo, Amy, Meg and Beth, respectively. A com-plete cast list is available at www.queentheatre.org/#/meet-the-cast/.

In keeping with the spirit of giving during the holiday sea-son, Sugar Land kindergartener Addie Doss will be at each of the Sunday matinee perfor-mances of Little Women as part of her campaign to raise money to fight cancer. “I believe that some people can help cancer,” says Addie, “and I’m one of them.” Visit www.queenthe-atre.org to watch a video of this remarkable little girl talking about her mission.

Little Women: The Musical

will run from December 2nd through December 18th. Performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 3 p.m. on Sundays. Visit www.queen-theatre.org for ticketing infor-mation.

The wrapping room was filled with excitement as volun-teers from the Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Sugar Land Rotary, and George Ranch High School students now beautiful-ly wrapped donated collection boxes that will be located at all Fort Bend ISD schools and at schools in Lamar Consolidated ISD from November 13. Businesses are encouraged to request collection boxes as well. For more information, or to request a collection box for your place of business, email [email protected].

Santa’s Exchange is made possible through a collabora-tion with the Exchange Club of Sugar Land, Sugar Land Rotary, Fort Bend Exchange,

Local businesses and community service orga-nizations also make financial contributions to the project to make the holidays brighter for these wonderful young people in need. Last year alone, 3,500 children received over 10,000 gifts through this project.

Co-Chairs for the event include John Robson – Exchange Club of Sugar Land and Steve Weathered – Sugar Land Rotary. “This is a great program, because it targets Fort Bend children and families in need,” said Steve Weathered.
