In a story first broken by the Star in 2010 about a neighbor- hood conflict, a Teal Run man has recently been convicted. It all began some two years ago when in the far east-side community of Teal Run, a small neighbor- hood within the subdivision was cowering from a menace. One of the residents on a quiet cul-de-sac was a felon who liked to scream, threaten, harass and, by and large, terrorize his neighbors. Reports were made to law enforcement officials who they responded so many times--their patrol car could get there on auto-pilot. It got so bad that one neighbor positioned surveillance cameras around their property - making moving pictures suitable for the local TV news. At the time we told readers, “Seems these eyes in the sky have captured the bully neighbor out working his yard with a pump- up sprayer full of some chemi- cal which did felony damage to another neighbor’s car.” Fortunately it did not go as far as some neighbor disputes have in Fort Bend County, but it finally made it to a courtroom. On June 6, 2011, Mark Childs was convicted of felony Criminal Mischief in the 240th District Court. Childs, 51, of Fresno, was indicted after he deliberately damaged his neighbor’s cars dur- ing a neighborhood dispute. According to Assistant District Attorney Amanda Bolin, “Childs and the victim, Ms. Pena, are neighbors in a cul-de-sac and have been for a number of years.” The dispute began in the fall of 2009 when Childs parked his vehicle in the small space of the cul-de-sac between their homes thus blocking the Pena’s drive- way. Delaying needed dental care can affect your health!SDA offers reasonable and predictable fees to fit your family’s budget. More and more studies have shown that neglecting dental problems can have serious effects on a person’s health. Southern Dental understands that during these difficult economic times, patients may want to delay treatment. However, that is not a wise decision because of the potential health risks and the fact that untreated dental disease worsens over time.

To preserve your health and your budget, Southern Dental

• Informs patients of the cost before starting treatment.

• Accepts most PPO and DMO dental insurance plans.

• Offers No Interest and Low Interest payment plans with approved credit.

• Accepts four credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Amex, & Discover.

• Provides dental treatment for Medicaid children. 713-777-2777

“Please do not neglect your teeth and jeopardize your health. Call Southern Dental today

someone, or a senior you love needs someone to drive them to

the market? Go to the doctors? Take care of a pet? Do some light housekeeping? Small re-pairs around the house? Or even to stay overnight?

Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services is that one phone call to make.

The organization matches seniors who are in need of those home services with senior help-ers who can provide them. Cur-rently the organization has over 170 offices in 30 plus states in-cluding Hawaii. The Fort Bend Seniors Helping Seniors office opened its doors earlier this year and already has a staff of qualified, compassionate senior care providers anxious to pro-vide Fort Bend seniors the care they need to stay in their homes, live independently with dignity and respect. “It’s a win-win for everyone, according to Mike Alexander, Fort Bend Seniors Helping Seniors Director, those who give and those who receive learn from each other every-day – and all we hear is about how rewarding it is for both of them.” “There is a huge differ-ence in the kind of home care you can receive from someone who really understands what your life is like as a senior and the concerns seniors have and their need for independence.”

The rapidly growing popu-lation of seniors has combined with more and more seniors de-termined to remain independent in their own homes. “Seniors Helping Seniors is an alterna-tive to being in a long-term care facility, said Mike Alexander.”

Seniors Helping Seniors ser-vices has affordable rates for those who need services. For more information, please call Seniors Helping Seniors at 281 261-8107 and check the website at www.seniorshelpingseniors.com.

Seniors Helping Seniors In-Home Services

I think I hate politics and politicians....I can’t believe that we have such crushing problems facing our nation (if we believe the television pundits)--problems like a huge debt with two war-ring political parties refusing to compromise to buy us some time, a lack of jobs is other parts of the country and neither political party has even a tiny clue about what to do except point fingers at each other; and companies sitting on vast amounts of cash and refusing to hire people because they want to force the politicians to give them even more tax breaks. And guess what our politicians are doing? Why they are tsk, tsking over Rep. Weiner’s wienie. Are you believing this?

What I find interesting is that most of the states that are having such budgets problems now and are solving it by taking money away from our next generation in the form of stealing money from their respective education

systems. Most of those states received stimulus funds which were supposed to be used to create jobs by funding “shovel-ready” projects, but most of them spent that stimulus money to bal-ance their own budgets that year. Our own governor, Gov. Good Hair did that and then bragged in television ads when he was run-ning for reelection that Texas had a surplus. How could we have had a surplus when he was run-ning against Kay Bailey and now we are so broke that thousands of teachers are going to be laid off and class sizes will be increased to over 35 students per room? Still no buyer’s remorse.?

I been telling you’ll.....I’ve maintained for three years that Sarah Palin is just plain dumb. I’m not sure she really passed elementary school. Here she was in the Paul Revere Museum and when asked a question about Paul, she flubbed it completely. I’m sure some of her defenders

will claim “Gotcha Journalism,” but remember she was in the Paul Revere Museum. Didn’t she absorb anything just standing around there?

That lady is dumb. Cute, but dumb.

Car 54, where are you?....No, really, where are you. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department has a new commu-nication system that just doesn’t work. Nobody knows where Car 54 is, and no body knows when they will know.

And I’m not sure I want it to work anyway. The new commu-nication system works on a Visual Data Terminal. The county cops won’t be communicating with each other via radio anymore. They will be texting.

So you will have this county mountie barrelling down the road and rather than getting his infor-mation from a radio, he has to look at a little tv screen mounted in his car to communicate.

I know this is the new era and I need to join the 21st century, but I’m just saying.....Don’t admon-ish me about texting and driving

and be doing it yourself. (I can never text and drive because I just can barely do either one--even one at a time.) Most people who ride which me spend their time issuing sometimes not so silent screams and slamming their own feet against the floor to emulate brake work. And I won’t even tell you what part of my anatomy I’m accused of using when I call people on my cell phone texting device at inappropriate times--like 3 a.m.

There are two types of women....I’m convinced there are two types of women. Those that put on more make-up as they age, and those that put on less. I belong to the latter class.

I noticed that very recently I used to put on eye liner, shadow, and mascara, in addition to the usual blush and lipstick. Lately, I’ve skipped the eye liner and shadow. At my age, I just can’t improve very much any more. So today I caught myself leaving the house without mascara. Is lipstick next?

FYI, apropos of nothing: Michele Bauchmann had on very noticeable (if you are on the look-out) false eyelashes in the New Hamsphire GOP debate. Let’s see: she reads, is a teapartyer, and wears makeup. Except for the reading part, we’re seeing a Sarah Palin wannabe.

FOOT FACTSby Dr. Eric Tepper

BOARD CERTIFIED PODIATRIST, ACCPPS

ANKLE SPRAINMost of us spend summers either barefoot, in flip-flops, or in sneakers,

and foot problems associated with the season can result. When at the beach, many possible threats to those who go barefoot include small, sharp items such as seashells and slivers of glass. Walking on the boardwalk without foot protection makes us vulnerable to splinters. These can embed them-selves in the skin or under the toenails. Walking barefoot or in sandals can result in stubbing a toe. If flip-flops don’t fit properly, they can cause trip-ping. If socks are not worn with sneakers, the friction may result in blisters. To avoid some of these potential injuries, be cautious of what footwear you use during the summer months.

For those who participate in summer activities of all kinds, profes-sional attention and guidance can help reduce the potential for discomfort and injury. Since any difficulties with your feet can adversely affect your comfort and lifestyle, we invite your call to us at 281-980-3668 for an appointment to maximize your health and well-being. We can promise you comprehensive foot care geared to your personal needs at 3143 Hwy. 6 South. Don't take your feet for granted - call us for an appointment. Make your next step a comfortable one - call us for an appointment.

HINT: Be sure to wear sandals at a public pool.

The Sugar Land Skeeters, the Houston area’s minor league base-ball team, and Republic Services, Inc. announced June 10 an exclu-sive partnership agreement that will make Republic Services the official waste services company of the Sugar Land Skeeters and StarTex Power Field.

“We are honored to welcome Republic Services to the Skeeters family,” Skeeters president Matt O’Brien said. “Republic plays a significant role in the Sugar Land community and we couldn’t think of a better company to do busi-ness with.”

The 10-year “Founding Partner” agreement includes elite interior and exterior signage,

in-stadium marketing and pro-motional elements, reciprocal activation initiatives, hospitality benefits and other branding com-ponents.

“We are proud to partner with the Skeeters Organization and support this great entertain-ment venue,” Republic General Manager Todd Fawcett stated. “We support the Sugar Land community – it’s where we live, work and play. Republic Services has broad expertise in the envi-ronmental services field, derived from a diverse array of hauling, transfer, recycling, and disposal operations, providing these ser-vices in Sugar Land and sur-rounding cities.”

Hope Endowment is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which fundraises for three spe-cific orphanages or group homes for impoverished children in India. All children are provided with housing, food, clothing, medical, education and social services as needed. The chil-dren that are served are between the ages of 3 to 18. The Hope Endowment currently supports 180 children across the three homes.

What started as one person's mission and promise to take care of orphans and impoverished children has blossomed into a full-fledged non-profit serving hundreds of children in India. The work began in 2004, Dr. Niraj Patel, a Sugar Land physi-cian partnered with Molly Philip, an Emergency Room Nurse to provide on-going support for Shepherd Children's Home in Kerala, India. The Home was expanded to a new two story structure that was completed in 2005 and serviced 60 boys and girls, and the planned expansion served 100 children by 2010. The need for these services has outstripped the current facili-ties and plans are underway to expand the capacity. Because of this need, the Hope Endowment was created as an official 501(c)(3) .

The Fire and Ice Gala – pre-sented by Methodist Sugar Land Hospital – is scheduled for Friday, August 26, at the Marriott Sugar Land Town Center Hotel. What makes Hope Endowment so unique is all pri-vate donations will go directly to the children’s care in India. The founding members of Hope Endowment have pledged to cover all administrative costs.

Standing majestically at the corner of Lakeview Drive and Wood Street, is the oldest public building in Sugar Land. Designed by Imperial Sugar Company in 1918, the beautiful auditorium, which received a historical mark-er in 1993, once served as the site for silent movies, graduations, plays, church services, dances, recitals, band concerts, and many other community events.

Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation (SLCAF) is pleased to announce that Phase II renova-tions (including exterior renova-tions, a backstage addition and beautification of the property) of the old auditorium are nearing completion -- helping to restore

it to the splendor of its early days -- and planning has begun for the grand opening of the newly renovated cultural arts center, to be held in early fall.

The interior of the auditori-um was completely renovated in 2004 and captured the essence of the original. The wooden floor and the original armrests of the seats were refinished, and new chair backs were installed, as well as handicap seating. Heating and air conditioning systems were installed by FBISD, owner of the property. Dozens of acoustical panels were installed along with state of the art sound and lighting systems.

After interior renovations were

Kristen Pownell, a junior at Clements High School, received a perfect score of 2400 on the SAT test. A well-rounded stu-dent, Kristen is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and her school's Red Cross Club. She also plays the oboe for the Clements Concert Band and was selected as an All-State Alternate for the past two years. Outside of school, she is an active Girl Scout, currently working on her Gold Award, and is active in her church's youth group. After high school, she plans on attending college and majoring in chemical engineering.

SLCAF planning grand opening and future programming for Sugar Land’s Historic Auditorium

completed, the foundation shifted its focus to renovating the exterior and adding a much-needed back-stage area for performing arts groups. The current construction project, which has been underway for the last nine months, includes a climate controlled storage room for the grand piano, loading dock and handicap access to the stage; and a green room, dressing rooms and restroom facilities for per-formers.

The exterior renovations were extensive including a new roof, refurbished windows and doors (both funded by FBISD bond money), as well as repaired, re-plastered and painted exterior walls. Installation of new steps, walkways and lighting enhance the beauty of the grounds. In addi-tion, a historic feature, the rooftop

balustrade, was recreated bring-ing back the original exterior look of the building. The SLCAF is currently reviewing plans for an irrigation system and landscaping which will be completed before the end of summer.

The SLCAF Programming Committee is working on lining up quality performances that will be open to the community. In addition, the auditorium will be used by FBISD for performances as well as individuals and groups that have begun requesting rent-al dates for private and public events. Rental fees offset the costs to operate the auditorium and all proceeds benefit the SLCAF, a nonprofit organization. Olson welcomes German Congressional Exchange Student to Stafford

Rep. Pete Olson welcomed German Congressional exchange professional Julian Hecker to Texas. Julian was selected for a prestigious scholarship program under the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange pro-gram (CBYX), a joint venture of the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag. The pro-gram enables 75 American and German young professionals to exchange for a year of working

and university abroad. Julian is currently working at Pika International, an environmental services firm headquartered in Stafford.

Julian previously worked for a German company that part-nered with Pika on previous projects in the energy sector. Julian has attended classes at Houston Community College and is finishing his year-long exchange by working at Pika.

Congressman Pete Olson shakes hands with Julian Hecker. Pika VP Paul Ihrke in background.

WE NEED A “DRIVE THROUGH” POSTAL “DROP” BOX. At Missouri City Carrier Annex (Hwy 6 @ Glenn Lakes) (3701 Glenn Lakes, Missouri City, Texas 77459-9998) the “outside” drop boxes are difficult to access. Need is for one like they have at the “main”

ANOTHER “NEGATIVE” DROUGHT SIDE EFFECT. One of our residents is seeing a coyote in the neighborhood at night. Caution your children to stay clear of ALL wild animals and keep your “outside” pets SAFE at night. BRING in ALL “outside food bowls at night.

VOLUNTARY WATERING OF LAWNS. EVEN street num-bers (water on Mondays and Thursdays) ODD street numbers (water on Tuesdays and Fridays) NO WATERING on weekends. Water ONLY at NIGHT.

Skeeters team on track ..................................................................................................................................................... from page 1 The Dell Diamond in Round

Rock was built in 2000 and is the home of Texas Rangers' Class AAA affiliate Round Rock Express, formerly of the Houston Astros.

The Skeeters have interviewed numerous coaching candidates and have not made a choice nor whittled their options down yet. They do not plan to make a deci-

Teal Run bully convicted ........................................ from page 1 disputed escalated. Again, the police were called and no agree-ment could ever be reached regard-ing the parking spot. However, as reported in 2010, Ms Pena became fearful and installed a video sur-veillance system, documenting every thing and contacting the police when she felt it was neces-sary, said Bolin.

The defendant in this case, Childs, according to the District Attorney’s office, responded with belligerence, name-calling and eventually the destruction of Pena’s property.

“On January 20, 2010, while tending to his lawn, Childs inten-tionally sprayed a lawn chemical on Ms. Pena’s Ford Excursion. Although Ms. Pena didn’t notice the damage for a few days, she was able to review the surveillance video to witness the defendant spraying the chemical on her car. Because the chemical had been on the vehicle for a few days, it had

already permanently damaged the paint.”

“Ms. Pena contacted police and then took her vehicle to Helfman Ford for a repair estimate. On the very day that Ms. Pena met with a detective on her case, the defendant sprayed chemicals on another one of Ms. Pena’s vehicles that was parked in the disputed spot at the time. Ms. Pena smelled the chemical odor immediately upon returning home and washed the vehicle, thus saving it from permanent damage. This second incident was also captured on sur-veillance video,” said Bolin in a press release.

Ms. Pena eventually had her Excursion repaired at Helfman Ford. Interestingly, Childs paid a personal visit to Helfman Ford to express his dissatisfaction with the cost of the repairs. He continued to show the same belligerence and use intimidation tactics with the detective on the case and in the

courtroom during trial, said Bolin. “This is one of those cases

where the actual act is not particu-larly heinous, but could have seri-ously escalated or become violent had the criminal justice system not intervened when it did,” said Bolin. “Ms. Pena did exactly what we encourage citizens to do when they find themselves in these situ-ations – document everything and call the police for help instead of taking matters into your own hands.”

Childs was tried for Criminal Mischief. In this case, it is punish-able by 180 days to two years in a state jail facility and a fine up to $10,000. Childs has requested that the court assess his punish-ment at a hearing set for August 2, 2011. Childs is eligible to receive probation.

Assistant District Attorneys Amanda C. Bolin and Elan Levy prosecuted the case. Rasheed Taylor represented the defendant.

sion on the manager until the fall at the earliest and roster deci-sions until next year. The final roster will not play together until the beginning of spring training with most of the best players being added later as those play-ers get released from other teams or major league organizations.

O'Brien said there are benefits in hiring a coach or a player who has connections to Texas.

"It is definitely appealing from the fan perspective to be able to recognize a name," he said. "Minor leagues across the coun-try are filled with people you know and do not know, so I guess there is added appeal to

know or have seen the person somewhere before."

Coaches with ties to the com-munity are former major league players Gary Gaetti who was the Astros hitting coach from 2004-06, and former Astros Dickie Thon, whose son plays for the Long Island Ducks, and Terry Puhl, who currently coaches for the University of Houston-Victoria.

Players with local ties are also of interest to O'Brien, including former Astro Mike Lamb. Lamb currently plays for the Camden Riversharks and is batting .312 with five home runs and 24 RBIs. Other former Astros to have

played in the Atlantic League include outfielders Kevin Bass, Carl Everett and Daryle Ward, and pitchers Jose Lima, Brandon Puffer and Dan Miceli.

Since 2007, the Astros have purchased the contracts of 11 former Atlantic League players including current Class AAA pitcher Andy Van Hekken in 2008 while a member of the Somerset Patriots. Van Hekken has a 4.09 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 33 innings for the Oklahoma City RedHawks.

The current rebuilding period of the Astros is not being viewed as a positive for the Skeeters as they move closer to Opening

Day. O'Brien stated that when the Astros win, it builds a base-ball mindset for the Greater Houston area.

"We would rather see the Astros succeed than struggle, because when they are succeed-ing people are going to baseball games and talking about baseball and that is good for everybody," he said. "We want Minute Maid Park and our stadium filled every night because that is just more baseball fans. When your teams are winning and you are having a good time, that associates a good feeling with baseball and that will help us the most."

StarTex Power Field will hold events year round. Apart from the Skeeters games, the team hopes to hold championships at both the high school and col-legiate levels, car shows, char-ity walks, football and soccer

games, and concerts and festi-vals. Any event that needs park-ing, bathrooms, open space and a fixed gate, O'Brien said they are interested.

Some of these events outside of Skeeters baseball O'Brien said he would like to make annual. One such event would be a col-lege baseball tournament.

"I am intrigued by a college tournament and how that gets put together is something we are looking at, but it just does not happen over night," he said. "I would say that within the next few years we would have a college baseball tournament in some fashion and who plays may evolve each year. The one they have at Minute Maid Park is amazing. The draw to get those teams is fantastic and so we would love to emulate that sort of tournament."

Shortly after 2 in the afternoon last Saturday, a woman purchased a money order at the Korner Food Market on Thompson Highway in Richmond with three counterfeit $20 dollar bills. Unfortunately, the clerk did not realize the cash was fake until after the woman and her male associate had walked out of the store.

1,379 bills passed by state legislature ............................. from page 1

There’s a bill among those on the governor desk that will restrict the powers of homeowners asso-ciations (HOAs) and in Fort Bend County, it could impact hundreds of them. Other HOA bills are for strengthening homeowners’ voting rights and there are also reform bills having to do with foreclosures and dues, even one

that specifies a priority of pay-ments for homeowners in arrears. HOAs in this area have been the subject of contention by some residents and most notably, the First Colony Community Services Association came under fire by homeowners who disagreed with plans they said were inconsis-tent with survey results. There

are other HOAs whose actions have been subject to homeowner discontentment and disapproval along the lines of what the legisla-ture intends to correct.

So when could these bills that may become law be effective? For those that do not specify a start date, the effective date is August 29.

Although the man, who is vis-ible in the surveillance photos, did not pass any counterfeit cash, police would like to talk with him as well as the woman who passed the fake bills.

Richmond detectives are asking anyone with identify-ing details on the suspect or the male who accompanied her, or circumstances surrounding this incident, to please contact the Richmond Police Department at (281) 342-2849 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at (281) 342-TIPS (8477)

Keeping Up With The KidsKeeping Up With The Kids

For many children read-ing will always be a struggle without proper intervention. In many cases it is strictly a matter of not having mastered the physical mechanics of reading.

Children with allergies, frequent ear infections, pre-maturity , and slow to thrive infants, are delayed in acquir-ing many of the early founda-tions utilized in the reading process. Their eyes may be transmitting clear images to the brain, but the way it gets there and how the brain pro-cesses it, may have a malfunc-tion. Proper vision perception and eye efficiency skills are two of the key factors.

Our reading skills program addresses eye movement ef-ficiency and visual processing enhancement. Please call for more information. 281-499-2600.

Reading and Vision

Many students struggle with reading because of poor oculomotor skills and convergence insufficiency. Both conditions can be treated easily by vision therapy.

Oculomotor skills are the fundamental eye movements that allow a person to read. The eyes must move smoothly and efficiently across the written word in order for the brain to process the material properly. Many students spend wasted time re-reading because they have not developed the proper eye movement skills. Many are slow readers because they have not developed their visual memory skills.

Convergence insufficiency is the inability of the eyes to remain pointed exactly at the distance and position of the words on a page or the board. This has devastating effect on the reader. Symptoms include words moving across the page and constant loss of place when reading.

Our program addresses reading efficiency and will help poor and good readers to become even better. Reading efficiency skills will allow students to perform better on all types of standardized testing. This is a perfect summer program to prepare the eyes for PSAT and SAT test and help relieve visual stress.

Please call our office at 281-499-2600 to find out more and begin your child’s future to more efficient reading skills.

Treatments Recommended for Pink EyePink eye is also known medically as conjunctivitis. It is an inflamma

tion of the conjunctiva of the eye. The inflammation can be caused by an infection, an allergy, or another type of irritant. If related to an infection, the condition may be caused by a virus or bacteria. Bacteria that com monly cause pink eye are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Staphylococcus aureus. If the condition is caused by bacteria, a puslike discharge from the eye commonly occurs. If a virus is the cause, the discharge is typically more watery. Signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis include red eyes, swelling, and itchiness.

Usually pink eye will go away in 12 weeks without treatment. However, antibacterial treatments are important for reducing the duration of the infection, and also decreasing the chance of spreading the condition to other people. Antibacterials administered to the eye as an eye drop for treatment caused by bacteria include several drugs such as ciprofloxacin (Ciloxan) and gatifloxacin (Zymar), sulfacetamide (Bleph-10), and baci tracinpolymyxin B (Polysporin). If pink eye is caused by a virus, an eye drop that contains a combination of an antihistamine and a deconges tant, such as Naphcon-A (naphazoline and pheniramine), may be used to alleviate itching and irritation of the eye area.

By LeaAnne Klentzman The body of a young man,

believed to have drowned, was recovered from a lake in Sugar Land.

Sugar Land police spokes-person Doug Adolph said police have identified the man whose body was recovered from the lake near

the intersection of Creekbend Drive and Prudential Circle as Prince Guillermo Ramirez. His body was seen in the water by a woman who was walking near the Creekbend Condominiums in the Lake Pointe subdivision Friday evening. She reported her sighting to police and an investi-gation began.

Adolph said, “Preliminary autopsy results show the cause of death as drowning. There

are no signs of foul play; how-ever, the investigation is ongo-ing.”

Ramirez was a 22 year old man who is believed to have lived in Houston. No further details were available; however, police ask anyone with information to contact SLPD at (281) 275-2540.

It’s obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. Officer Patrick has been with the force for at least 3 years. I know this because he jumped in freezing cold water at Buffalo Run Park on Christmas day to try and save a life that was dear to me. This officier should be awarded for

this brave act and you should never talk down on someone that risks their life everyday for you and everyone else. You say he is not a nice guy, probably because he wrote you a ticket for breaking the law. Next time, think before you start bashing our brave officers.

Name Withheld

*Editor’s Note: The officer who wrote the 71-year-old man a ticket for trying to see his pas-tor was not, repeat not, Officer Patrick. In point of fact, the letter accusing Officer Patrick of several things was NOT sup-posed to run. It was an over-sight on the part of our editor. We do not run letters from people maligning anyone else, a police office or not, without some examples of said actions that are investigated. We humbly apologize to Officer Patrick, beg his forgiveness and applaud his bravery.

Response by reader to “Tickets and roadways stirs reader”

Meadows Place residence comments

on electionDear Editor,Eight hundred Meadows

Place residents signed a petition in opposition to the roundabouts concept. At first, we had no per-son who would agree to represent us by placing his name on the ballot for the upcoming election. Then, Mr. Whiteman did step forward. We are grateful for his commitment and for our success.

Evidently, many signers failed to vote--neglect, unawareness of the circumstances, dependence on the "other" person's votes, what-ever. These are the facts and the suppositions of the present situ-ation.

Name WithheldMeadows Place/Petition-Signer*Editor's Note: The let-

ter writer was commenting on the differences between the 800 signers and 263 voters although John Whiteman won the election. Although all 800 petition signers did not vote, the turnout for the election broke previous Meadows Place records. Many hope the question of roundabouts has been laid to rest with the defeat of one of its ardent supporters. BKC
