Friday 9 September 2016 New Academic Year 2016 Thank you to all students, families and staff for such a positive start to the new academic year. We have all enjoyed welcoming every one back and hearing about summer experiences. A particular welcome to our new Year 7 and Year 12 students who have joined the school for the first time. It has been noticeable how welcoming the existing students are to new students and how everyone quickly become part of the Teddington School community. Obviously the entire school has been encouraged by the excellent examination results for last year and we all know we can continue to build on that success for future students. This year we renew our focus on making sure every student, no matter what their starting point, achieves above and beyond what might be perceived as their potential. Whilst our gaps in achievement are well within what is expected of a highly successful school we want to do more. A main focus for everyone at the school this year is the whole experience students have of being part of the Teddington School community. We want our students to be proud of their school, feel valued by it and enjoy being part of it. With the help of families, last year we radically improved the extra curricular offer and we want to go further this year and ensure every student gets involved. In school we are working on student leadership, rewards and social events. We are fortunate to have such an enthusiastic group of students and we can’t wait to see them be able to get involved in more and more extra opportunities. Thank you for your support of the school and for working so closely with us. Our school, and most especially our students, has such high levels of parental engagement. We are very grateful and see the difference it makes for the young people. Please look out for important dates in the newsletter every week and on the calendar on the website. We are looking forward very much to of working in close partnership with you to achieve the very best for our young people. Welcome Year 7

I would like to welcome our new Year 7 students to Teddington School. They are all getting to know one another and helping each other to settle into their new school. I have already been able to reward many of them for following our important school values, especially by showing empathy to those from our smaller feeder primary schools. They are also looking incredibly smart, wearing our uniform with pride and joining lots of extra curricular clubs. The Year 7 Welcome Evening will be taking place on Wednesday 28 September from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm at school. I look forward to seeing you then and to telling you more about their achievements in the future Ms Nicki Pollard Head of Year 7

Year 12 Go Ape!

Go Ape was amazing! As we arrived at Go Ape, my extreme fear of heights increased as we passed the thin towering trees. Once we were harnessed up, we hoisted ourselves up an unnervingly unstable ladder and made our way to the top. The course ahead looked treacherous, however we persevered and stumbled towards the finish. After a shaky start, I got the hang of it and gradually overcame my fear. The zip-line down to the end was the final leap of faith. Overall the trip was a great experience and it helped to conquer fears and meet new people. I am now looking forward to a successful 2 years at Teddington School Sixth Form. Year 12 Student

Go Ape was a wonderful bonding experience and a great workout! With the small amount of people in the year group, we all managed to come together as a team and some even overcame their crippling fear of heights. By facing these fears, we put our trust in one another. We are looking forward to developing our relationships with the Sixth Form family. Sophie Roadnight and Renee Myburgh, Year 12
