SIXTH FORM NEWS
“Genius is one percent
inspiration, ninety-nine percent
perspiration”
So said the American inventor
Thomas Edison. He meant, of
course, that genius is largely the
result of hard work rather than an
inspired flash of insight.
It is something we all need to
take to heart as we embark on
this new academic year. If we
work hard, we will do well, if we
don’t, we won't! God may be the
‘Almighty’ but he won’t do the
work for us and He expects us to
use what He has given us to its
full potential. Have a great year!

Year 12 Induction Day
The Year 12 students made a pleasing start to what promises to be an
exciting year at Christ the King College Sixth Form. Following a long
summer and impressive GCSE successes, students old and new started
the Sixth Form with an Induction Day designed to introduce them to the
Sixth Form. It was great to welcome many new students from schools
across the Island, as well as international students who have travelled
from various parts of Europe, choosing to study A Levels with us.
Following a welcome from Dr Dean and Mrs Conway-Hughes, students
were introduced to the large and experienced Sixth Form team, before
breaking off for a carousel of sessions. Students were given advice on
how to make their time work for them, with a focus on managing the
workload and expectations that are intrinsic to KS5 study. Other sessions
looked at the expectations of the College and how students can make
their learning work for them.
Students also took part in teambuilding activities, designed to encourage
collaboration and communication, essential life-skills. Students were
encouraged through the tasks to meet others they had never met before
and achieve goals, culminating in the ‘marshmallow challenge’, where
teams had to construct a tower strong enough to hold a marshmallow
from spaghetti. Teamwork and communication were key, and all did an
impressive job of working together, as well as having fun at the same
time.
The day ended with a quiet reflection, as we all look towards the
challenges ahead with optimism and expectation. We as a Sixth Form
team look forward to sharing in the success of our new Year 12 cohort
and pray that all students will enjoy their time at the College whilst
achieving their full potential.
