How to use the MSEP Candidate Search

As a Military Spouse Employment Partnership company or organization, you have direct access to a large pool of talented and committed professionals – military spouses. Using the MSEP Candidate Search feature on the MSEP Partner Portal, you can filter through thousands of potential military spouse employees to find candidates that may be a good fit for your company. Review the guidance below and on the next page to learn how to maximize this feature.

Keyword: The keyword search will return spouse candidates whose Summary section of their resume contains a matching keyword.

Location: Search by street, city, state or ZIP code. The location search will return spouse candidates whose location is within 60 miles of the searched location. The location search will also return spouses who have selected that location as a potential destination for an upcoming relocation.

Industry: You may select multiple industries to ensure the search returns all qualified candidates. For example, it may be beneficial to select your organization’s primary industry as well as the industry most often associated with the position you are seeking to fill.

Certifications: Enter at least two characters into these search fields to populate selectable options.

Skills: To return the maximum amount of candidates, type in a general skill and then click ‘Select All’. This will return all candidates whose skills contain the input text, such as Adobe, Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Creative Suite.

Fields of Study: To return the maximum amount of candidates, type in a general field and then click ‘Select All’. This will return all candidates whose Fields of Study contain the input text, such as Marketing, Marketing and Advertising or Marketing and Business Administration.

Job Types: Select the job type for which you are hiring. For example, select ‘Full-time’ to return candidates who are seeking full-time employment. You may select more than one job type at once. For example, select ‘Part-time’ and ‘Telework’ to return candidates who are seeking part-time and/or telework opportunities.

Save Candidate: To add a candidate to your list of saved candidates, click the green ‘Save Candidate’ button in the search results or click the green ‘Save’ button when viewing the candidate’s profile.

The Candidate Search returns candidates who meet all of your search criteria. If your search returns zero candidates, consider removing any search criteria not required for the position you are looking to fill. If your search returns too many candidates, consider using additional search criteria to narrow the list of candidates.

Once a list of potential candidates populates, you can sort through each resume to find military spouses that meet your exact requirements.
