Grammy Award-nominated songstress, KT Tunstall, has been announced as the headline act at Oban Live – an exciting new open air concert taking place in Mossfield Park, Oban, on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 May.

Trad superstars Capercaillie, Julie Fowlis, Skipinnish and many more also feature on the concert’s bill, which has already seen 1500 early bird tickets sell out in under three hours.

General tickets go on sale 12 noon on Saturday 13 February via www.obanlive.com or from www.eventbrite.co.uk

Oban Live’s inception came about after the hugely successful ‘Decade’ concert, held in Oban in May 2015, generated an incredible £1.1 million for the town and its surrounding areas. The concert, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of Skerryvore, saw international acts attract crowds from across the world to attend. Artistic director and Skerryvore band member, Daniel Gillespie, saw the huge potential for an open-air concert in Oban and, as a result, Oban Live was born.

The economic impact of the concert is expected to be double that of Decade and organisers have already had to arrange additional capacity at Mossfield Park to cope with demand.

Daniel Gillespie, Oban Live Artistic Director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce KT Tunstall as our headline act at Oban Live. She is an iconic musician who has been flying the flag for Scotland for many years around the world. Oban has hosted incredible music events in the past year - including our own Decade event and The Royal National Mod – and we want to continue to celebrate this town’s wonderful community spirit and incredible atmosphere with an event that will welcome people from all over the world to Oban for a

weekend of sensational live music. With the early bird tickets selling out so quickly we advise people to book tickets early to avoid missing out. See you all in May!”

Oban Live is supported by EventScotland, part of the VisitScotland Events Directorate.

Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events for VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the inaugural Oban Live through our National Funding Programme. This exciting addition to Oban’s existing portfolio of music events, with its impressive line-up of Trad and international pop artists, will no doubt attract

visitors to the town from the local area and further afield."

Tunstall shot to fame when her debut album Eye to the Telescope earned her a nomination for the Mercury Prize. She later went on to win awards for Best British Live Act and Best Breakthrough Act at 2006 BRIT Awards, then later adding the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song to her trophy cabinet with hit song Suddenly I See.

Bagrock phenomenon the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, acclaimed singer songwriter King Creosote and the re-formed Indie band Astrid have signed up to join the Hebridean Celtic Festival’s 21st birthday party.

It will be the Chilli Pipers’ third visit to HebCelt in eight years, while King Creosote, aka Kenny Anderson, will be making his debut at the award-winning festival.

Astrid, who include three original members from Lewis, reunited last year after an 11-year hiatus and will tour and release a new album this year.

Also confirmed for the HebCelt 2016 line-up are Rura, Blue Rose Code, Bella and The Bear, Hazey Janes, Rusty Shackle, Sink Ships, Urban Teuchtars, Whisky Kiss, Hunter & The Bear, Woodenbox and Something Someone.

The festival previously announced its ‘coming of age’ event will also feature Scottish rock legends Runrig, international singing star Julie Fowlis, American ‘rockgrass’ band Hayseed Dixie and multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer John McCusker, as well as Orkney four-piece Fara and folk trio Talisk, who were both nominated in the Up and Coming Artist of the Year category in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.

HebCelt director Caroline Maclennan said: “The programme for 2016 is really coming together now and we are excited about the quality and diversity of the line-up. We have a great mix of well-established favourites and are bringing a great array of new acts, very much in keeping with our aim of supporting emerging talent and introducing our audience to new music. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are a great festival act and real crowd pleasers and King Creosote is one of Scotland’ s best known and loved singer songwriters. Astrid continue to have a great following both in Lewis and further afield and it’s great to see them back playing, especially on home turf. Other acts we are announcing today bring their own unique

qualities and styles which will add up to a fantastic 21st anniversary HebCelt.”

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who perform across the globe, say the island event is one of the best festivals in the world. The band’s growth since forming in 2002 and winning the BBC talent show When Will I Be Famous five years later has been spectacular, attracting a following that spreads across Europe, the US and into countries such as Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, China and India. Kevin MacDonald, from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, said: “HebCelt is one of Scotland’s best music festivals with a great atmosphere and a fantastic range of music. We are excited to be going back for our third visit and can’t wait to join in the 21st birthday celebrations.”

Astrid, who were formed in the mid 1990s by Willie Campbell, Charles Clark and Gareth Russell, from Lewis, and Gareth Thom, made three albums and toured Europe and America before splitting in 2004. They reformed last year and have written new songs to take on tour this year, including at HebCelt. A new single and album are planned to be released in the summer. “Where better for Astrid to do their first home gig?” said Willie Campbell. “We're grateful to HebCelt for giving us this opportunity to perform. As always I'm delighted to be involved. This new Astrid album is our favourite and it has festival friendly songs. We had a great time recording it and can't wait to share it live with everyone”.

King Creosote has released more than 40 albums to date, his 2011 collaboration with Jon Hopkins, Diamond Mine, being nominated for the Mercury Prize and Scottish Album of the Year Award. In 2014, Anderson completed his first-ever film soundtrack, for Virginia Heath's documentary From Scotland With Love. The project, which weaves Scottish archive film footage with King Creosote compositions, culminated with a live performance as part of Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games cultural programme.

HebCelt will be held from 13-16 July in Stornoway in the island of Lewis. The other acts so far confirmed include Rura, who are one of the most sought-after acts on the festival circuit across Europe and were voted Best Up and Coming Act at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards 2011 and nominated for both Folk Band of the Year (Scots Trad Music Awards 2012) and the Horizon Award (Radio 2 Folk Awards 2013).

Blue Rose Code - aka Edinburgh-born Ross Wilson - releases a new album, And Lo! The Bird is on the Wing, in March. His previous release, The Ballads of Peckham Rye, was nominated for the prestigious Scottish Album of The Year Awards in 2014.

Bella and the Bear, formed by Stuart Ramage and Lauren Gilmour in 2014, won a slot at HebCelt last year as one of eight finalists in the CalMac Culture Music contest run by CalMac

Ferries Ltd. Whisky Kiss are a four-piece mixing traditional tunes with contemporary beats, featuring Siobhan Anderson, from Killin, on fiddle and Ewan Duncan, from Newtonmore, on pipes/whistles. Their debut single 'Jocks Revenge', became the only iTunes no1 by an unsigned Scots' trad band and their latest release includes two tracks used by VisitScotland for a promotional video seen by over one million viewers.

Woodenbox are regarded as one of the most exciting live bands in Scotland currently and they will be joined at HebCelt by Dundee Indie band The Hazey Janes; folk roots six-piece Rusty Shackle, from South Wales: Sink Ships, a four-piece from Ardnamurchan and Dingwall who formed just last year; and ceilidh band Urban Teuchtars, fronted by Gaelic singers Kathleen MacInnes and Sineag MacIntyre, from South Uist. Also added are melody driven rock act Hunter & the Bear and the first artists to be announced for the acoustic stage; indie-folk trio Something Someone.

Main arena line-up so far is: Thursday (14 July) - Hayseed Dixie, Urban Teuchtars, Hazey Janes. Friday (15 July) - Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Julie Fowlis, Astrid, King Creosote, Blue Rose Code, Whisky Kiss, Fara, Woodenbox, Bella and the Bear, Hunter & the Bear. Saturday (16 July) – Runrig, Rura, John McCusker, Rusty Shackle, Talisk, Sink Ships and Something Someone.

HebCelt has grown from a small event attracting less than 1,000 fans, to an international showpiece for roots, Celtic and traditional music, generating more than £20 million for the local economy over two decades. Last year, it marked its 20th anniversary by hosting its biggest number of live performances ever with more than 50 hours of music and arts events staged in the main arena in the grounds of Lews Castle, as well as an Lanntair arts centre in the town centre and other venues in rural areas.

Robbie Fraser's highly-anticipated documentary HAMISH tells the story of Hamish Henderson (1919-2002) - a colossal figure in Scottish culture, a man of boundless passion and curiosity whose poems continue to elevate and inspire a nation. HAMISH pays tribute to the many contrary forces and diverse facets of Henderson’s life as a poet, soldier, intellectual, activist, songwriter and leading force in the revival of Scottish folk music.

The world premiere is on the 23 February as part of the Glasgow Film Festival at Glasgow Film Theatre at 6pm and will include a musical overture featuring two of Scotland’s most respected singers, Adam McNaughton and Siobhan Miller, in association with Celtic Connections - with another screening at GFT on the 24th.

14 years in the making, this heartfelt tribute to one of Scotland's proudest sons weaves golden archive footage with the loving testimony of Henderson's family and colleagues.

While a student Hamish visited Germany and helped rufugees escape the Nazis. His experience of war was a catalyst for his poem 'Elegies For The Dead In Cyrenaica' for which he received the 'Somerset Maugham Award' in 1949. Hamish became an integral part of the folk movement when he accompanied the American folklorist Alan Lomax on a collection tour of Scotland. He then became a permanent member of staff at the School of Scottish Studies.

Hamish helped establish the Edinburgh People's Festival in 1951. It put traditional Scottish folk music on a public stage for the first time and arguably evolved into the renowned Edinburgh Fringe as we know it today.

As folk clubs sprung up and modern songs bled into the mainstream, often these songs contained political themes and Henderson's own compositions were written into the fabric of Scottish culture.

In 1983 he turned down an OBE in protest of the nucleur arms policy of the Thatcher Government and as a result was voted Scot of the Year by BBC Radio Scotland listeners.

HAMISH is produced by Bees Nees Media from Glasgow and is supported by MG Alba, BBC Alba and Creative Scotland. The key contributions were filmed in Edinburgh in the autumn of 2015, including filming in the legendary folk music institution Sandy Bell's

bar. Henderson's real office was Edinburgh University's School of Scottish Studies, which he'd helped to create in the 1950s, but he would often be found in his 'unofficial office', Sandy Bell's, a mere stone's throw away!

This is filmmaker Robbie Fraser's fourth film and all have had wordwide film festival exposure. Robbie said: "It's been a privilege to work on this film. He's a wee bit lost now, faded from view. But he needs to be re-cemented into the Scottish imagination as a poet, a makar and an inspirer of people. I hope our film will help that to happen.

The film's original soundtrack is composed by Scottish composer Jim Sutherland who was hugely influenced and encouraged by Hamish Henderson. Jim has produced a rich audio and visual archive that paints a vivid picture of Hamish Henderson's life.

MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS

On Wednesday, 2 March, Scotland’s biggest and brightest rural performing arts festival will reveal its most ambitious and exciting programme to date. And then tickets go on sale on Tuesday, 15 March for the 85 events in 48 venues of the 37th Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival which takes place from 20 to 29 May.

Festival chair, Ken Gouge, said: “This year’s programme is the largest and most diverse in the festival’s history. We are building on our unparalleled success of last year, which saw ticket income soar by 60 per cent and audiences grow by 47 per cent on 2014. These increases can be put down to our strategy of working more closely with promoters, venue managers and performing artists across the region. Last year’s festival also involved around 500 young people who attended shows, masterclasses and workshops run by visiting performing artists. Youngsters also took the opportunity of planning and promoting their own events. We have the generosity of the Holywood Trust to thank for being able to offer these opportunities to the younger members of our communities and, owing to the trust’s on-going support, we can continue to roll out this programme for 2016 and involve young people in performing arts.”

An exciting range of international performers will be appearing at this year’s festival, including Scots traditional singing sensation, Eddi Reader; nationally acclaimed comedians Daniel Sloss, Craig Hill and Annette Badland; opera from Opera A La Carte and Scottish Opera; and making a return appearance the lively Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band.

Festival programme director, Peter Renwick, said: “We have some really extra special events booked for this year, some of which are unique to the festival. We are very excited by some of the contemporary folk music on offer, Highlights for 2016 include the notable Songs of Separation. The performance is the culmination of a project that brought together 10 female folk musicians from Scotland and England on the Isle of Eigg to create a programme inspired by 2014’s Scotland Referendum and reflecting on the issue of separation in all its forms. The musicians, amongst the most well-respected folk singers in the UK, are Eliza Carthy, Karine Polwart, Rowan Rheingans, Mary Macmaster, Hannah Read, Kate Young, Jenn Butterworth, Hazel Askew, Hannah James and Jenny Hill."

Their album was released in January and sold out during its first week. Since then, they have taken their music on the road with a sell-out premiere at Celtic Connections and an hour-long slot on BBC Radio Scotland's Travelling Folk! The concert in Dumfries includes eight of the original members who will be singing songs from the album alongside the Cairn Chorus from Moniaive .

Peter said: “Songs of Separation turned out to be a remarkable project with a huge momentum behind it. The fact the musicians will be presenting their songs in collaboration with the Cairn Chorus make this a unique one-off concert for the region.”

Also performing at the Festival is Mercury Award nominee, English singer and song collector Sam Lee. The Live band Sam Lee and Friends perform unconventional and contemporary interpretations challenging all preconceptions of how traditional folk should sound.” Sam is in the running for two awards at the BBC Folk Awards: Folk Singer Of The Year and Best Traditional Track.

Peter added: “Sam Lee is another truly special performer. “He has been getting rave reviews. We are thrilled that he will be part of this year’s festival.”

As a prelude to the festival, Moray-based Right Line Productions will tour their interactive comedy theatre show, Rapid Departures, in March. This show is a warm and sensitive theatrical insight into the recent flooding crises. Supported by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the drama explores the deepening crisis as a flood hits a small community.

Northern Irish indie rockers Two Door Cinema Club are the final mainstage headliner for the 2016 outing of Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival - held on 4-6 August at Beauly in Inverness-shire - topping the bill on the Friday night. This is the band’s first UK festival date following their recent announcement of “new music, new shows, new everything” for 2016. They will be joining the already announced headliners, Madness and The Darkness.

Also announced are Scottish hard rockers GUN and folk-rockers Turin Brakes who enjoyed chart success with their smash hit ‘Painkiller’. Canadian multi-instrumentalist Son Of Dave will also be joining the bill, as will contemporary folk musician Bella Hardy, whose latest record ‘With The Dawn’ – her first since being named BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer Of The Year in 2014 - has been released to much critical acclaim.

Scottish band Astrid, who surprised many this summer announcing they would be returning to the studio to record a fourth full-length album after a decade apart will be playing at Belladrum for the first time, along with infamous Glaswegian sound system, Mungo’s Hi Fi, who will also be performing at this years SXSW festival.

Best Live Act winners from this years Scottish Alternative Music Awards Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 will bring their entertaining show to the festival, along with three crowd favourites from 2015 who are all returning to perform: Keston Cobblers Club, Coco & The Butter Fields and Blackbeard's Tea Party.

Also added to the bill are Rob Heron & The Teapad Orchestra, Holy Moly & The Crackers, veteran troubadour Rab Noakes,

Medicine Men and The Beau Bow Belles. These join acts already announced: Arrested Development, The Alabama 3, Rachel Sermanni, The Dangleberries, Mercury nominated Scot C Duncan, Breabach, Tweed Ceilidh Band, Bella and the Bear, The Mermaids, Be Charlotte and crowd pleasers The Dolly Parton Story who makes a reappearance by popular demand.

There are many more acts still to announce for the festival which, now in its 13th year, has the theme ‘Superstition’ in 2016. A limited number of Saturday day tickets are now on sale via Skiddle and retail agents: Eden Court and The Ironworks in Inverness; Sweet Treats in Dingwall; and Morrisons in Beauly. Weekend and three day E-tickets to the event are on sale via the festival website at www.tartanheartfestival.co.uk and via www.skiddle.com - and printed tickets are available from the usual agents.

When buying tickets on-line with Skiddle, Bella patrons are being given an opportunity to

contribute to the Archie Foundation, a charity which is helping to improve hospital facilities in the Highlands.

Bella sold out in record time in January in 2015, and has sold out each of the last seven years, often months before the event so fans are urged to buy early to avoid disappointment. E-tickets are more customer-friendly and less easy to scam.

Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival takes place in the beautiful Highland surroundings of Belladrum Estate, near Beauly in Inverness-shire. The independent festival has built a reputation for its eclectic line-ups, its offbeat non-musical entertainments and its all-ages approach. The festival won a VisitScotland Thistle Award in 2009 and is a past winner of the Grassroots Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards, the festival industry’s ‘Oscars’.

'GLASGOW JAZZ FESTIVAL' TICKETS @ www.jazzfest.co.uk

Guitar legends Joe Bonamassa and George Benson have been announced as part of the line-up for this year’s Glasgow Jazz Festival. They are the first artists to be announced for the 2016 festival which will celebrate a bumper 30th year.

Grammy nominated guitarist Joe Bonamassa will pay tribute to three legends of British blues, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, in a one-off tour aptly entitled A Salute to the British Blues Explosion. As part of this year’s festival, Bonamassa will play in the Glasgow Clyde Auditorium in Sunday 3 July.

Joe Bonamassa’s love of the British Blues is at the heart of his musicial inspiration and for the first time ever in the UK he will tour this unique concert tribute.

“If it wasn't for certain British musicians of the early 1960s, the Blues may well never have exploded into Rock music as we know it today, and indeed may have passed into history,” says

Bonamassa.

The renowned ten-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Jazz Master George Benson has also been announced as part of the line-up for the Glasgow Jazz Festival 2016 in association with Kennedy Street Enterprises. George Benson, whose career spans five decades, will be performing at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 22nd June 2016.

The live show will feature George Benson’s masterful guitar playing, and Benson and his

band will perform his Greatest Hits from his impressive back catalogue which includes such classics as ‘Give Me The Night’, ‘Lady Love Me (One More Time)’, ‘Turn Your Love Around’, ‘Love X Love’,’ Never Give Up On A Good Thing’ and ‘In Your Eyes’.

Jill Rodger, Director of Glasgow Jazz Festival, said “I'm am so excited to be working with Kennedy Street Enterprises, Neil O’Brien Entertainment and Regular Music to showcase these musical legends on the Glasgow Jazz Festival stage this summer! I think it’s safe to say they are a perfect example of the fantastic calibre of musicians we have coming along to help us celebrate our 30th Festival! Please keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for some more announcements coming your way soon!”

This summer, Glasgow will come alive with the sound of jazz, funk, blues, soul and world music as leading artists from across the jazz spectrum descend on the city for the 30th Glasgow Jazz Festival. Kicking off on 22 June the festival’s 30th year celebrations promise to be an unmissable occasion, with world class musicians performing all over the city.
