Betty Murphy, a former active member, passed away on February 20, 2016. A

memorial service was held Saturday, February 20, 2016 and her Interment will be at a later date in the Helper Cemetery. Betty’s obituary was published in The Salt Lake Tribune on February 25, 2016. Condolences may be shared at the web address given in the obituary. Betty began one of the original book clubs for Newcomers and was a model for the ZCMI department store in downtown Salt Lake City.

Therese Diedrich, another former member with many friends in Newcomers’ Club, passed away February 26, 2016. A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 1, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. For more information, view the obituary published in The Salt Lake Tribune on February 28, 2016. The family suggests donations to St. Vincent’s or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered through the Tribune obituary web site.

Former active member, Charlie Petersen, passed away on March 7, 2016. A viewing was held on March 15, 2016. His obituary, published in The Salt Lake Tribune on March 13, 2016, has information about donations and condolences. Luana Chapman was mentioned in the obituary as Charlie’s good friend and traveling companion during his later years.

Betty, Therese, and Charlie will be missed by their many friends in RMSG and other groups within the Newcomers’ Club. Current member Judy Cooper had a partial knee replacement, “a perfect surgery,” on March 9, 2016 at Salt Lake Regional Hospital. After an overnight stay in the hospital, she was released to recover at home. By the end of March, she was almost back to her normal activities – managing the stairs, driving, and shopping. Judy was ec-static to report that she was walking without a limp two weeks after the surgery!

Betty Vaughn, who is recovering from foot surgery and is at home, has our best wishes for a fast and complete recovery.
