Community Resources The University of Utah Prison Education Project held admissions in the women’s and men’s prison this summer. Programming in Timpanogas will begin the first week of September and later in the month for the men’s prison. UPEP is beginning with non-credit programming as we fundraise to cover the costs of tuition. We have received overwhelming support from the University of Utah, the Utah Department of Corrections, and our local community and are looking forward to start programming. We are currently soliciting books for our first class in the women’s prison and you can access our Amazon wish list here. Keep a look out for our new website at upep.utah.edu (which should be up and running later this fall).

Just a Thought-We all shop and many stores have

made it easy to make charitable donations at the checkout. I did my own brief and unscientific survey and would like to share my results. Most of the grocery chains have set up systems for donations with their loyalty cards, It seems that the corporate head-quarters of Smith’s, and Fresh Market/Dan’s/ Macy’s are revising how they designate charities. Donors just need to ask a manager for the information on available organizations and the type donor program that is available at each site. Sprouts and Rite Aid are using a round up at the register system for personal donations. And then of course there is the Amazon wish list. After the initial paperwork – donations are easy and most will go to local charities.

So check it out. Just a Thought.
