Your Contributions to LTV

The Land Trust of Virginia now protects nearly 14,000 acres throughout Loudoun, Fauquier, and neighboring counties. The vast majority of our operating support comes from you.

Every acre of land we save, every farm we conserve, and every historic property we protect in perpetuity is a direct result of your generous donations. With your help, we will continue to protect our rural landscapes. Every dollar you donate is

Together, we are ensuring this land will remain a beautiful place to live for generations to come. Your continuing support o f our miss ion i s great l y appreciated. Once again, thank you, from all of us to all of you for your support and enduring conservation legacy.

Protecting Loudoun County Lands

LTV had another successful year in Loudoun County, with five easements totaling 505 acres!

Each easement protects the beautiful natural resources

and cultural resources in Loudoun County, forever. The 223-

acre Cantacuzene property is a great example of why we work so hard to conserve land: it contains 125 acres of forest land, a working horse and cattle farm that includes 70 acres of productive farmland, and a perennial stream.  Other Loudoun properties protected in 2013 have frontage on Virginia scenic byways, include Civil War battlefields, contain historical structures, have perennial streams and floodplain, are visible from the Appalachian trail, and contribute to the county’s scenic open space.

Thanks to all easement donors for permanently protecting these lands in the County. To date, LTV holds 92 easements on 8,382 acres of land in Loudoun.

Fauquier County Successes

LTV recorded four easements in Fauquier County, totaling 244 acres in 2013!

In June, Rab Thompson donated two easements to the Land Trust of Virginia that protect the extraordinary conservation values on her properties near The Plains. These LTV conservation easements represent another crucial piece in the ongoing effort to protect this historic and highly scenic part of Fauquier County. LTV reached another milestone in the fall by recording a conservation easement on a 102-acre property in Upperville containing two significant Civil War Battlefields – the Unison Battlefield Historic District, and the Core Area of the Battle of Upperville. Additionally, LTV protected Fauquier properties containing significant riparian areas, protecting local water quality. With these conservation easements now in place, this area of the county will keep its rural and historic character forever.

LTV now holds 24 easements in Fauquier County, permanently protecting 2,848 acres of land.
