Q. What is LPG?

Know about LPG

A: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a mixture of hydrocarbons, which are in gaseous state at ambient temperature and pressure but these are liquefied under pressure for easy storage, handling and transportation in pressurized vessels. At Oil India Ltd’s LPG plant it is obtained from Natural Gas through fractionation. Butane and Propane are the main constituent hydrocarbon's in LPG.

LPG is colourless odourless and highly inflammable It is heavier than LPG is colourless, odourless and highly inflammable. It is heavier than air. Ethyl Mercaptan is added as odouriser for detection of any leakage. LPG as per IS: 4576 is being marketed in India.

Q. What are the uses of LPG?

A: LPG is one of the safest, economical, eco friendly healthy cooking fuel widely used in most urban and semi urban household's. Even the

l l l lrural population is also increasingly using it.

Besides domestic usage, LPG is often used as an efficient source of energy in various industrial and commercial applications. Some of the important areas where LPG is used extensively are: Metal Cutting, Kiln & Furnaces, Fabrication, Process Industries, Industrial Processing, Radiant Heating, Generators etc.
