San Pedro Chamber of Commerce “State of the City Address” and Luncheon Re-Cap: This wonderful community event, featuring Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino, was held on February 16th. Over 280 persons attend-ed! Our President was requested to give a greet-ing on behalf of the Club and he also stood at our front door at the event’s conclusion and shook hands and thanked every person who at-tended! Special thanks to our Banquet Manager Renee Orefice for coordinating this event with the Chamber. A great time was had by all! Community Fish Luncheon: Our next fish luncheon is on Friday, March 31, 2017. As some attendees will be observing Lent, our mostaciolli pasta will be served with both “marinara” and “meat” sauce varieties. In January, our attend-ance was 152 guests! Please plan to attend with your family and friends! ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Outdoor and Indoor Ceremonial Flags: The Club remains in need of monetary donations to purchase some new flags for in-door display. We have quite a proud tradition in our Club of veteran members who have served our country in the armed forces. We would like to purchase indoor service branch ceremonial flags for permanent display. We would appreciate monetary donations to pur-chase these ceremonial flags. Full or partial contributions to this cause can either be in memory of a loved one (living or deceased) or by a member who served in a particular service branch. Donors (and/or their loved one) will be listed on a commemorative wall plaque in proximity of the flags. Each armed services flag set costs $200.00. We would like to un-veil our Armed Services flags for Armed Forc-es Day in May. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated to honor our veteran mem-bers. Thank you to the following members for their contributions to our military flag display: Army (full donation) – Councilman Anthony and Chris Misetich in honor of their son Jona-than who is serving in the United States Ar-my and is the only Club member presently on active duty. Navy (full donations) – Jerry Lovarov and the Svorinich Family in honor of Rudy, Sr. and Anton (Zrini) Svorinich, Stel-la Rukavina in honor of Anthony Rukavina (partial donation). Marines (full donation) – Nick Biazevich in memory of Pete Zankich. Coast Guard (full donation) by the Svorinich Family in honor of Andrew Svorinich, Mar-ion A. Rafkin, Dr. Joe Mardesich and Dr. Gerald N. Felando. We remain in need of a donor(s) for the U.S. Merchant Marine Flag. The purchase of our outdoor American, Croa-tian and California State flags were made pos-sible by the donations of Past-President Lou Malnar, and brother members Mario Bijelic and Mike Medak. Our President also donated an outdoor Los Angeles City Flag for Club use at appropriate occasions (such as the Chamber luncheon last month where it looked great!). Thank you all for your generosity.

New Club Email Address: To make com-municating with the Club easier, our new email address is: [email protected] Please make a note of it. Thank you. Club No Smoking Policy: Recently, the Board of Directors have received reports of some members and guests smoking within our Patio Room and with 20 feet of entrances. Cal-ifornia State Law strictly prohibits such behav-ior. Club staff has been authorized to rigorous-ly enforce the law with zero tolerance for of-fenders. Members and guests that exhibit poor judgement in regard to smoking within or too near Club buildings will first be asked to cease their activity – and if they refuse, asked to leave the premises. Our Club, as all buildings in our state, are smoke free areas.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Members of our Club Family: We hope the writing of this Bulletin finds you and yours well! As you can read from the previ-ous article, our Club is in a better financial con-dition that we have been in a long time. It takes a lot of work by a dedicated Board, Auxiliary, active Membership, and professional staff. We are all part of a great team with a great tradition of hospitality. But, we must also be aware of the loan payable in the amount of $119, 500.00 for Club improvements that we made in 2015. Pay-ing off this loan asap is a top priority for us. Every member is cordially invited to our March member dinner to hear of the present status of the Club. Again, a special thanks to 1st Vice-President Bill Brownell for overseeing and tak-ing charge of some very much needed improve-ments and repairs to the Club over the past month. Our offices have new paint and carpet, a wide-screen TV to scroll Club events for poten-tial clients to view and both main building re-strooms have been painted a lighter tone. Basi-cally, our Club looks great! Our office receives twenty (yes, twenty!) calls a day for rental in-quiries. That’s impressive! We have a great Club, with a great history, great traditions, and most importantly – great people! It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your President. We hope to see you at our Club real soon! God Bless you, your loved ones and our Country! Sincerely yours,

Hon. Rudy Svorinich, Jr.,

President
