AST week Ballito was abuzz with the

sensational news that someone had posted a pic of his unclad manhood on a local traffic information

social network. One can only assume that this was done in error as the pic was no doubt intended for a more exclusive audience but it certainly got the town talking.

The news made its way onto our radio station shortly after the story broke on the social network and it was interesting to hear first-hand from a

listener who had seen the image and called in to air her views on the subject.

Apparently it wasn’t a particularly impressive example of masculine pride and, as such, one wonders what the owner of this rather sad appendage was thinking when he took the shot and uploaded it. After all, in this age of quick and easy digital manipulation, it probably wouldn’t be that hard to give it a bit more substance. People do this all the time. Almost every profile pic on Facebook has been subtly (or not so subtly) tweaked according to what the subject thinks would make them more appealing.

Wrinkles, blemishes and excess weight are magically vanished if the subject has even the vaguest understanding of Photoshop or similar software. So I suppose it wouldn’t have been much of a stretch, if you’ll pardon the pun, for the owner of the errant winky to give himself an extra inch or two to impress the recipient.

But poor old Sad Sack couldn’t even get this right. The member in question in the image that I saw on a smartphone looked like a little old man being choked by a giant hand. All it needed was a beard and a tiny hat to pass for a miniature version of one of the Seven Dwarves – hardly the sort of image to ignite the fires of passion, unless the intended recipient had a thing for cartoon characters.

But still, there were those in the group who were offended by it, in particular, one woman who said she would be taking legal action as her ten year old daughter had been traumatised by the image. Somehow I find that hard to believe. The internet is packed with dodgy images accessible by even the most innocent of searches,

but still, I understand her unhappiness. It would be very difficult explaining to anyone what a pic like this was doing on a local traffic site. But it did bear a pale resemblance to a prominent South African political figure, much caricatured by cartoonists, so maybe that could be a possible answer.

Still, I think we have to face the fact that a local idiot posted a pic of his best friend on the wrong site - and the rest, as they say, is history. Or at least he probably will be shortly because his cell phone number made it easy enough to reveal his identity. According to his Facebook profile he is married, or at least he was as of yesterday, although I would imagine that his wife is reviewing that position as we speak. I won’t add to his misery by publicly shaming him – he’s done that already.

But it just goes to show how quickly things can go wrong when you place sensitive stuff in the public domain.

My advice is, just don’t do it because in this digitally connected world, somebody is probably watching you!

WILCOTE WATERPROOFING, ROOFING AND PAINTING is a family business, which was originally started by Will and Georgia Rogers, over 27 years ago. Jess and Ryan Rogers, joined the business, after completing their education, over 10 years ago. The main aim and

foundation for the company is, to offer the most affordable, eco-friendly, long term Solutions, to their customers, to enhance their dreams.

Wilcote supplies and applies building maintenance products made from the highest grade of eco and environmentally friendly raw materials available globally. All of Wilcote’s enviro-friendly products are used in conjunction with tried and tested systems and solutions, guaranteed for optimal results.

Wilcote customers enjoy a complete package…The Professional Solution.Wilcote has access to all the Global Suppliers and they are constantly

pursuing better enviro-friendly raw materials, to reduce the impact on our environment. Presently, Wilcote can supply all of their products to Europe without any special labelling as they meet all the European eco and enviro-friendly standards and requirements.

All Wilcote products are manufactured to the European Standards, with their Codes of ethics regarding Eco and Enviro Friendly Raw Materials. When sourcing raw material suppliers, it is important to ascertain how their raw materials, are harvested. Some of the factors to consider under this eco and enviro friendly Banner are:• The environment they are sourced from• What impact this has on the environment.• The type of labour employed • The Suppliers commitment to eco and enviro practices. All of the water used in the Wilcote factory, is either rainwater harvested

from their roofs or water from a borehole on the property. The water is filtered before use. Any grey water emanating from the cleaning processes is re-cycled and used to irrigate a small banana plantation, near the factory. Wlicote is the only company in KZN that cleans and returns all of the raw material containers to a global supplier for re-use. Another concept, to reduce the pressure on the resources, of our Planet.

Wilcote’s vision and aim, is to continuously and purposefully strive to deliver on their ethos to respect the planet and to leave a legacy for the future.

Wilcote has just won a prestigious silver award in the international Enviropeadia ECO-LOGIC AWARDS 2015/16 recognising the company as one of the top performers in the world in this regard.

This is a great achievement and one which the North Coast can be truly proud of!

TIEN UIT TIEN AND PARROT A WINNING COMBINATION

OFF GRID LIVING – NOW A REALITY

DANISH architectural firm EFFEKT envisioned a future where self-sustaining communities could grow their own food and produce their own energy.

They incorporated that vision into the ReGen Village, a planned off-grid community that addresses issues ranging from climate change to food security through sustainable design. They plan to start building these utopian communities this summer.

Homes in these gorgeous communities are totally designed for sustainable living. They’re powered by photovoltaic solar panels, but passive heating and

cooling systems take some of the pressure off the electrical use of each house. Families grow their own vegetables and fruit in connected greenhouses. Together, the houses form a “shared local eco-system.”

FFEKT Partner Simon Lynge said, “Our modern lifestyle is utterly unsustainable and the time has come to redefine residential real-estate development for the next three billion people coming to the planet.”

The concept is exciting, and EFFEKT already has plans to take the design to the next level in their first community to be built in the Netherlands this summer.

They’re also planning pilot projects in Sweden, Germany, Norway, and Denmark, with plans in the early stages for communities in China, Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.

Happy Father’s Day

Well, that’s what Dad would like you to believe…and, while there may be other occasions to rival it, let’s take a moment to celebrate Father’s Day.

There are some people, like Jimmy Fallon, who treat it with irreverence - “Father’s Day is important because, besides being the day on which we honour Dad, it’s the one day of the year that Brookstone does any business…” and that may well be. But it is a wonderful opportunity to treat your dad to something special…because you love him!

ON Sunday, at The Pumpkin Theatre, the crew from On Fire Comedy Club had us all in stitches. An event that I hope truly happens on a regular basis.

Grinning from ear to ear, the audience welcomed on stage the MC for the evening. None other than Richelieu B. He has us captivated from the first syllable, and his improvisation skills were on point!

Our first act was the extremely entertaining Glen Binderman-Park, originally from Cape Town, but now he calls the city of gold his home. If I could sum Glen up in a sentence, it would be ‘super relatable and continuously funny’.

Next on stage was our very own home grown Neil Green. What I love about watching Neil is that he really has his finger on the pulse of Durban. His instantly identifiable content, with a twist on the obviously ignorant, makes for an entertaining 20minutes. The crowd was enthralled, and clapped with admirable vigor.

Last up was the very well known, ‘Deep Fried Man’. We have watched him on the late night news with Loyiso Gola, singing his satirical genius, and seeing him live was a real treat. His show is extremely interactive, including one or two selfies with the audience! He really gets people engaged right from the start.

I had an amazing time, and judging from the laughter, everyone else who was there had a good giggle too.

Well-done to Jeremy Atkin and the rest of the On Fire Comedy crew, for putting on a really good show. I cannot wait for the next one!

If you guys want to catch the On Fire Comedy Club doing their thing, check out their Facebook page for more updates!

•Jennifer Lopez has hit back at constant reports suggesting she is a diva, insisting it’s a label she doesn’t deserve.

“I got a moniker of being ‘the diva,’ which I never felt I deserved - which I don’t deserve - because I’ve always been a hard worker, on time, doing what I’m supposed to do, and getting that label because you reach a certain amount of success,”

“Certain directors and the boys’ club that they form can make you feel like, ‘Oh, I can’t say anything,’” she continued. “I was always fascinated by how I could see (a man) being late or being belligerent to a crew and it being totally acceptable; meanwhile, I’d show up 15 minutes late and be berated. And you watch this happen over and over and over again.”

The double standards Jennifer has witnessed throughout her career is something she is keen to change, and she will continue to speak up for herself regardless of what others in the industry think.

14 GENERAL INTEREST 01 -14 June 2016 IN P R I N T , O N A I R O N L IN E

MAKING its global debut at the New York International Auto Show this past March, the 2017 Nissan GT-R has been updated with an exciting new look

both inside and out, as well as receiving major driving performance enhancements in key areas, which include a significantly reinforced chassis and more power from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter 24-valve V-6. The new GT-R is also more comfortable than ever before, with a new sense of elegance and civility that one would rarely find in such a high-performance super sports car. In all, these revisions represent the most significant changes made to the model since it was introduced in 2007.

The new GT-R boasts a thoroughly refreshed exterior look that adds a high sense of style to what is already considered one of the most distinctive-looking sports cars in the marketplace. In addition to the new grille and hood, the curving profile of the front under spoiler has been slightly extended and lowered by a few millimetres to improve airflow at the its lower edge.

Featuring superbly crafted materials, the Nissan GT-R’s new interior delivers an unparalleled degree of comfort, luxury and everyday usability unlike any iteration before it.

Output for the GT-R’s award-winning 3.8-liter V-6 24-valve twin-turbocharged engine has been increased by 20 hp compared to last year’s model. It now delivers 419kW at 6800 rpm, thanks in part to

an increase in boost pressure and an ignition-timing system that’s controlled at each individual cylinder—technology previously reserved for the GT-R NISMO.

The new changes result in improved acceleration in the mid-range (3200 rpm and above) with maximum torque output available across a wider range of the powerband. Also like the GT-R NISMO, by more precisely controlling ignition-timing at each cylinder, engine knock (imprecise detonation) has been significantly reduced while concurrently enhancing environmental performance through a cleaner, more efficient fuel burn.

Dubbed the “VR38DETT,” the engine features plasma-sprayed bores (versus cast iron liners) for reduced friction, lighter weight, enhanced cooling, superior power output and fuel efficiency. It also boasts a symmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system with twin high-performance turbochargers; a secondary air management system for improved cold-start emissions performance; a thermostatically controlled oil-cooling system; an oil scavenger pump to maintain oil flowing to the turbochargers; and a lateral wet and dry sump oiling system.

Each engine is hand-assembled from beginning to end in a special clean room by meticulously trained technicians. An aluminium plate is added to the front of each engine showing the name of the TAKUMI engine craftsman.

Also new is a titanium exhaust system that better manages the high temperatures of the exhaust gas from the engine. The system includes a NACA duct on the vehicle’s under tray just forward of the muffler, which guides air into the rear diffuser section to help cool the muffler and evacuate hot air from within this section of the vehicle.

PEUGEOT L500 R HYBRID ON 30 May 1916, the PEUGEOT L45 driven by Dario Resta won the mythical Indianapolis 500 race, at an average speed of 135 km/h. A hundred years

later, PEUGEOT L500 R HYbrid, a futuristic interpretation of the Indy spirit, pays tribute to the incredible “Charlatans” team that brought PEUGEOT three superb US victories on the Indy 500 speedway from 1913 to 19191.

A racing concept for intense driving sensationsPEUGEOT L500 R HYbrid hugs the asphalt to

deliver its full potential right from pullaway. With its wide track, low profile (just one metre high) and light weight (1,000 kg), PEUGEOT L500 R HYbrid is made for performance: it takes just 2.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill, and 19 seconds to cover 1000 metres. Developped by PEUGEOT Sport teams, the 500-bhp plug-in hybrid petrol powertrain features two electric motors (one front and one rear)

plus a 270 hp petrol engine, yielding peak torque of 730 Nm. Style-wise, the sleek lines run from the lion badge on the radiator grille toward the driver to end in a streamlined rear feature (a nod to the car’s century-

old ancestor) highlighting the three distinctive rear lamp claws that form part of Peugeot’s design identity today.

Racing experience amplified through prospective vision of the PEUGEOT holographic i-Cockpit

Because the PEUGEOT L500 R HYbrid racing car is designed to be one with its driver, driving sensations are amplified by a driver compartment deliberately designed to form an individual floating capsule enclosed in the bodywork. Through a prospective concept, the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit technology takes a radical motorsport stance, with a small steering wheel embedded in the structure and two holograms showing information in dual disc displays. In their relentless quest for aerodynamic, the PEUGEOT teams reinterpreted the original L45 two-seat architecture to produce a single seater that offers a virtual co-pilot an amplified real-time racing experience through a virtual reality headset. The L500 R HYbrid is a timeless Peugeot, extending to the future with its forwardlooking design, overtly acknowledging the past prowess of its predecessors, and proudly showing off some of Peugeot’s present-day design identity features, such as the front light signature seen on the PEUGEOT 3008 SUV, or the striking blue and black colour scheme as a reference both to the 500- bhp petrol hybrid drivechain and to the colour of the original L45.
