2 GENERAL iNTEREST 26 August - 8 September 2015 in p r i n t , o n a i r o n l in e

It’s been

another great week for lawyers.

the media has been awash with more tales of acrimony, duplicity, malevolence and other things that fill the coffers.

Embattled National Police Commissioner General Riah Phiyega is not going down without a fight and no legal expense will be spared in the fight to save her job. How a social worker who started her career as an Employee Well-being Consultant at the Chamber of Mines becomes Commissioner of Police is a curious example of square peg round hole deployment at the highest level – nothing unusual there, apparently.

suspended Gauteng Hawks head, Major-General shadrack sibiya has been dismissed for his role in the Zimbabwe renditions, but he’s apparently still at work…waiting to be informed through the proper channels. that could take a while.

Oscar Pistorius’ parole delay could have far-reaching consequences for other prisoners says a Legal Brief report, but no doubt his legal team will continue to benefit from team Pistorius’ bid to buy the best result they can…and so far they have done magnificently.

Another celebrity who is paying a small fortune to escape conviction is Abathembu King, Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo. His appeal against his 2009 conviction on charges of assault, arson, kidnapping and culpable homicide committed in 1995 seems to be sailing along quite nicely.

Prasa chief engineer, Daniel Mtimkulu, obviously didn’t come up

with enough to fund a successful legal result. But then, he was never the sharpest tool in the shed. He was fired on Friday after the passenger rail agency submitted documents at his disciplinary hearing showing that he had used falsified documents to get a massive salary increase. this alleged fraud cost Prasa (and ultimately you and me) R15m.

Judgment has been reserved in the case of Ballito Lifestyle Centre owner Bruce Rencken, who is attempting to stop the redevelopment of the new R1.4bn Ballito Junction, says a Daily News report. there’s huge local interest in this saga and the lawyers must be having a field day. Judge Jacqueline Henriques, after listening to lengthy technical arguments from all parties related to town planning schemes, the National Building Regulations Act, the Provincial Road traffic Act and the Constitution, reserved judgment, saying she needed about two weeks to apply her mind to the matter. We’ll be watching this one closely.

And in what can only be described as a marvel of legal conjuring, Zulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini, is apparently unlikely to be censured for his controversial remarks on foreign migrants that allegedly sparked a deadly wave of xenophobia attacks this year. A sunday times report says the comments drew widespread condemnation after it was reported that the king told his followers: ‘When foreigners look at them (south Africans), ‘let’s go and eat the inheritance of the stupid people.’ As I speak, you find their unsightly goods hanging all over our shops; they dirty our streets.’ the king’s message here seems pretty clear, yet the Human Rights Commission tasked with

investigating charges of hate speech against him, appears to have run into a dead end, according to the report. A highly-placed commission insider, apparently has said that the report will exonerate the Zulu monarch following pressure from various groups, including the royal household. the source said the commission would announce that the investigation could not be completed due to a ‘lack of evidence’. the king’s representatives told the commission that their monarch’s life had been placed in limbo since the investigation was launched. Moreover, they complained, his public image was being tainted locally and abroad.

seriously…And while we are on the subject,

here’s another legal joke for you. What's the difference between a good lawyer and a great lawyer? A good lawyer knows the law. A great lawyer knows the judge.

Selling Your Home: FirSt impreSSionS Count.

DennIS SCOTT - HArCOurTS DOLPHIn COAST

Every homeowner wants to get the

maximum value when selling their home. However, some people mistakenly pay huge amounts of money and undertake complete repair and renovation jobs in an attempt to make the house more appealing. Consider yourself lucky if you ever do recover that money from the sale of your home.

You'll find that it's a lot of little things, combined with only a few big ones, that make the difference between a house that is so-so and one that is irresistible.

Start witH tHe exteriorFirst impressions count, and the

first thing your potential buyers are going to see is the exterior of the house and the garden. so, make sure your garden is well tended and cared for. Mow the lawn, water the plants and place your pots with flowering plants within plain sight. Make sure the exterior of your house is spotlessly clean and that includes the driveway, front door, and windows.

Give the gate or door a fresh coat of paint, if need be. Your buyers will have a lot of time to have a good look at the entrance and the surroundings while they wait for you to answer the door bell.

Lead tHe way inGiving your interior walls a fresh

coat of paint is undoubtedly the best way to increase the market value of your house. Neutral colours, such as antique white or off white, give your rooms an elegant and sophisticated quality that is unmatched. Get your carpets and curtains professionally cleaned. Replacing old and worn out fixtures with brand new ones is an inexpensive investment that will most likely reap you rich rewards.

And now, those three most important words that can make or break your sale - Clear the Clutter. Now is a good time to throw away items that have been lying around and have never been used. Clean out and organize your cupboards. Women will most likely want to see what the clothes cupboards look like.

it'S SHowtime, foLkS!D-day is finally here. Your

potential buyers are due to come over and inspect your home later today. Make good use of your morning and put the final touches to make your house look even more appealing. Remember, your buyers are looking for a house they can call their own. so, go ahead and make your home an inviting place to be in.

Fill your home with the delicious aroma of baked cookies by actually baking a batch of cookies just before your buyers arrive. Nobody, but nobody, can resist this reminds-me-of-home aroma. Fresh flowers, strategically placed, add colour and joy to any room.

Keep all your windows and curtains open to give the house a bright airy look. If it's a late winters evening, switch on all your lights and keep the fireplace going, so your house looks and feels warm and cosy.

onCe again - CLear tHe CLutter! You'll be amazed at how much has accumulated since the last time you undertook this exercise. Put away shoes that clutter your doorway. Pick up up strewn clothes and socks and throw those in the laundry basket or better still, hide them in the car for the day. Whatever you do, just do not throw all the picked-up stuff into

your cupboards. Remember, the buyer will most likely want see the interior of all the cupboards and wardrobes.

spray the carpets, curtains and furniture with an odour-removing spray to erase all traces of cigarette smell and pet-odour. Hang fresh, clean towels in the bathrooms and kitchen. Make sure the bathrooms are spotlessly clean and inviting. Placing a few bric-a-brac in each bathroom gives it a more personal touch.

Your home may be in good condition and well built, yet simple clutter will create the perception of chaos, confusion and disorder. When buyers see clutter, they assume that the home has been neglected, with more to fix than meets the eye. this perception may undermine your home's market value.

Remember that a purchase decision is an emotional and intellectual response based on what you see.

Before putting your home on the market, de-cluttering is an essential part of your preparation, and is virtually cost-free. It is an activity that goes hand in hand with moving. so you will have to prepare yourself for throwing away, boxing to keep and maybe having a garage sale or giving to charity. Your move will be easier, and you will create an open, spacious, simplified look that buyers will love. When it comes to selling your home, less is truly more.

Some of tHe areaS to Look at:1) front gardenMake sure the garden is mowed and edged, and remove toys, junk piles, etc. 2) entranCethe buyer's first impression is critical, and shapes their attitude throughout the showing.Invest in a brand new welcome mat.Your entrance hall should be clear of shoes, coats, or excess items on the walls. Create a single focal point with an attractive table or painting. 3) Living areaS Rooms should be sparsely furnished to appear larger and lighter. too many personal collections and photographs are distracting for buyers. Remove hunting trophies. they can be overwhelming in a small room, and may bother some buyers.Large plants often take up too much space. Allow only a few healthy plants in the house.Open window blinds and leave on a few lamps for pleasant lighting. 4) kitCHenthe kitchen is the heart of the home and plays an important part in attracting the heart of a buyer. this is an active area that usually needs special attention.Clean, evenly finished cabinetry is a must. Add new paint or varnish, if necessary.New cabinet handles are an inexpensive item that can help tie the room together in terms of colour and finishes.Remove purely functional items - such as baking pans, small appliances, vitamins, phone books, plastic bags, etc.Photos and notes on the refrigerator represent clutter, so remove.Clear the counters completely, then add back a few decorative pieces that add a warm, elegant and organized look. some suggestions: Flowers, fruit, cookbooks. Often the area under the sink needs organizing and

cleaning.see that your rubbish bin is clean and refuse bags are removed.5) BatHroomKeep in mind that you will give up some privacy during the marketing period so declutter to give a touch of elegance and romance.Invest in new towels and fold them carefully.Never leave medicines, money, x rated magazines, jewellery, or personal possessions of this type on display. 6) BedroomSBedrooms should appear restful and serene. sparsely furnished is best.Use your best covers, or invest in new ones if yours are worn. Children's bedrooms usually need to be simplified. take down posters and box up toys. Avoid an overcrowded look. 7) CupBoardSOrganize your pantry with everything facing forward. Remove excess food and containers. Relieve your cupboards if they are stuffed. Pack away items that are not needed.the laundry room often functions as a spill-over room with junk on the shelves. Clear everything out, and have just a few soap boxes visible.

Now that you've got the house ready, sit back, relax and wait for the door-bell to ring, announcing the arrival of your buyers.

Just recently we (22 teachers) had the privilege of attending a talk by dr Caroline

Leaf. It was the most thought provoking and self-analytical talk and it left us with a sense that we can be in control by simply managing our thoughts in a positive and life changing manner (Literally - mind over matter). Dr Leaf has her PhD in Communication Pathology, but over the past 20 odd years has done an immense amount of research in neuroscience and the brain. Her work is not only based on science but she makes very strong parallels to religion and the bible – in her words. “science has eventually caught up with the bible”. she shows how the neurons in the brain are impacted to the kind of thought life we have. In a nutshell, our thoughts control our mind that in turn controls the conscious state of our actions. It all starts with a thought. the brain understands only two emotions – Fear and Faith. Fear de-generates the brains cells producing ‘toxic’ thinking and faith literally generates healthy bonds of protein that will result in a healthy body, mind and soul.

the old age – ‘You are what you think’ or ‘we are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with’ and ‘if we think we can - we will and if we think we can’t – we won’t’, rings very true!

We cannot control the circumstances, but we can control the outcome. We determine our own level of intellect therefore our path in life. By the practice of controlling your thoughts to those things that are positive and neuron building over a 63 day cycle, will change your approach to life to one of producing positive results. this is sometimes difficult in our very demanding “modern society”. However, if we truly believe that we can’t change the circumstances, but can definitely the outcome we will live a meaningful life filled with determination and possibilities.

We make choices on a daily basis and no matter the choices there are consequences whether it has a positive or a negative outcome. the fact is that we need to take responsibility and be accountable for the choices we make. We either, learn from our mistakes and change our thinking life or we stay unsure, confused, anxious and fearful. the choice is ours - and our brain will respond according to the input of thought. It really makes you stop… and tHINK!

On another note!We are now at the time of year whereby we

are finalising our student Leaders for 2016. Each student in Grade 11 was asked to apply to be considered for this role and it was intriguing to read how each student had their own philosophy and interpretation of being a leader.

A very transparent, democratic and exciting electoral process took place even to the point that thumb nails were marked marking to prevent re-voting. Every student and senior College staff member as well as the current Prefect Body had the opportunity to cast their votes. this is always a “sweet sour” time of the year as there are students who are disappointed and experience a rollercoaster of emotions.

What is exciting and is a new innovation to our school is in 2016 is that all our Matric students will belong to some Club or society in which they will play an integral role in keeping the synergy and spirit of the school at a peak amongst the students at Ashton.

Our theme for the future is based on servant Leadership and more importantly, how they are able to influence through leadership rather than have a title to leadership. In other words, those who want to make a difference – will, they don’t need a title to do it!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR MATRIC AND IGCSe CAMBRIDGe STUDeNTS FOR THe FORTHCOMING TRIAL eXAMINATIONS!

THe collaboration between Llewellyn Cronje and Jacques grobler began

in 1998 in the offices of the then tyser pellegrini Cronje architects in melville JHB. In 2003 Llewellyn “came home” so to speak and started Cronje associated architects with Jacques, we experienced a boom and then a recession but are now well placed to participate in the fast and significant growth in our area.

Although the building industry is still experiencing difficult times, there has been a slow and steady turnaround over the last year or so.

We have reinvented ourselves to a certain extent by moving to

Warne house and creating a whole new look and feel to our offices.

Our interior theme is “under construction”.

this was inspired by visiting the urban renewal projects in JHB, “44 on Stanley” and “Arts on Main.”

We found an inspiring space in Ballito which was previously showrooms.

By using natural building materials and having a bit of fun, we have created a work environment that inspires.

these building materials in their “raw” state cause a variety of textures and colours to merge and form an “ideal inspiration space”.

Our team operates the latest version of Autodesk Revit software.

building your own building or home can be both exciting and rewarding as well as stressful and frustrating. Ca architects share this two year or more journey knowing that the added value at the end will be worth it to our clients.

On the 12 August 2015, Sembcorp Siza Water officially launched the Sembcorp Siza Water Bursary Fund. This

is part of the Sembcorp Gives Back Initiative to commemorate Sembcorp Utilities business 20th Anniversary.

The Bursary Fund is aimed at tertiary students residing in the Sembcorp Siza Water Concession Area and an amount of R230 000 was made available for applicants wishing to attend a tertiary institution in 2016.

Sembcorp Siza Water Managing Director, Shyam Misra said “South Africa still experiences intellectual poverty owing to the inability of our people to gain access to tertiary institutions owing to funding”.

Mr. Misra also stressed that priority will be given to courses relating to the study fields of; Engineering, Financial Management, Town and Regional Planning and Environmental Management.

He added that; “the aim of the fund is to ensure we empower our Youth with skills so that they may then be able to realise their dreams through education.”

In addition to providing funding to the lucky recipients of the bursaries, Sembcorp also offers them work experience at their offices to get a feel of the corporate environment

and also gain exposure to the real world of their chosen careers.

Mr. Misra highlighted that Sembcorp Siza Water was already proving full bursaries to two students from within its service area. Buyi Ntuli and Vikash Diplal have been the lucky recipients of bursaries for the past three and two years respectively.

In his closing, Dr Mokoape a former leader of the Pan African Congress stressed the importance of education and added how proud the Directors of Sembcorp were of both Buyi and Vikash for being worthy recipients of the initial bursaries and that they must never forget to also give back to the communities they grew up in. He added that “without education as a country we are not going anywhere”.

Those wishing to apply for a bursary may do so by collecting application forms from the Sembcorp Siza Water Offices (both Ballito and Shakaskraal) or your local Ward Councillor and once completed to return these for the attention of Human Resources in a sealed envelope.

WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENTMbali Mahaye - Department of Water and Sanitation: Communications at KwaZulu Natal Provincial Office

Water is life. This is a popular saying in Africa and around the world supporting the great level of importance on the resource. In all its forms – rainwater, streams, ponds, springs, lakes, rivers, ocean water and water vapour – water is an essential and central resource.

However, the drought in KwaZulu-Natal has reached a stage where the province might not have enough water to last consumers throughout the winter season. Consumers and residents are thus urged to reduce water consumption. This has led to some local municipalities to implement and increase mandatory restrictions. The Department of Water and Sanitation has given the proposed raising of the Hazelmere Dam wall the green light and the construction started this year. The raising of the dam wall will increase its gross storage capacity from 23.9 to 43.7 cubic metres in size. The increased size of the dam will augment water supply to the North Coast and sustain irrigation

downstream of the dam thus contributing to reducing the limitless thirst of the fast developing Northern Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The need for the reliable provision of water is the driving force behind the project. The flood of 1987 in KwaZulu-Natal, together with the normal rates of sedimentation, has reduced the storage capacity of the dam by almost 30%. In order to prevent critical water shortages in the affected areas, the project has been re-activated and the need for the

dam rising has become crucial. The positive impacts of the project will ensure that the primary objective of assuring the supply of water to the industries and residents on the North Coast is met.The most significant positive impact of the proposed dam wall raising will be the assurance of water supply to the growing urban and industrial users, due to the increased capacity of the dam. This will ensure continued economic growth, without compromising the levels of health and sanitation for the North Coast residents.

The InjeCTIOn that could InSTanTLy Cure addICTSResearchers reveal compound that can instantly erase memories of drug use...

REsEARCHERs have unveiled a radical new experimental drug that can erase memories associated with addiction.

they say it could one day be used to treat addicts by erasing the 'ghosts' of their addiction.

Recovering addicts often grapple with the memories that tempt them to relapse even after

rehabilitation and months, or even years, of drug-free living. the scripps Research Institute say their discovery

that brings them closer to a new therapy based on selectively erasing these dangerous and tenacious drug-associated memories.

'We now have a viable target and by blocking that target, we can disrupt, and potentially erase, drug memories, leaving other memories intact,' said tsRI

Associate Professor Courtney Miller. 'the hope is that, when combined with traditional

rehabilitation and abstinence therapies, we can reduce or eliminate relapse for meth users after a single treatment by taking away the power of an individual's triggers.'

the results showed that a single injection of blebbistatin successfully disrupted long-term storage of drug-related memories—and blocked relapse for at least a month in animal models of methamphetamine addiction.

'Our results argue for developing small molecule inhibitors of nonmuscle myosin II as potential therapeutics for relapse prevention, and that's exactly what we're doing with our colleagues here at scripps with expertise in drug development,' said Miller.

You are LoSing muSCLe, not JuSt fat.

wHy SHouLd it matter?

I'm losing weight - it's working! My pants are sitting looser and it's happening quickly. so what if I'm losing a bit of muscle? I just need to lose a bit more weight to fit into my clothes.

the problem with diets is that what you lose now is almost guaranteed to come back and find you with interest! I always think of the before and after photos. Ever wondered what those people look like a year later?

Following quick fix diets, low calorie diets, high protien diets, low carb diets, celery stick diets, soup diets, whatever diet or supplement or "all natural" diet pills and injections makes your body lose muscle before it loses fat.

wHy? Your body adapts to the lowered energy input by slowing down your metabolism to use less energy.

But so what if my "metathingamajig" runs a little slower, I just want to be thinner?

Well, that metabolism is the thing that uses most of your daily energy and

is what keeps you thin, without you having to starve yourself. By starving your metabolism now, you are setting yourself up for future weight gain.

Every time you are going to try a new gimmick diet it's going to be harder to lose weight in future until you end up one of those victims who has tried everything to lose weight.

So wHat muSt i do?Well, it's the eating that helps

you lose weight but it's the exercise that helps you keep and tone the muscles which in turn speeds up your metabolism, thereby increasing your energy output. Now you are on the right track.

It's important to differentiate between weight loss and fat loss. With weight loss you can get lighter but you can become flabbier and weaker and you are also more at risk of just putting everything back on. On the other hand, with fat loss, you might not initially see your weight go down on the scale, but you'll feel firmer, stronger, more toned and look much better in the mirror.

tHe Bottom Line iS Skip tHe quiCk fixeS.

Exercise, not to burn calories but to strengthen and tone. Eat very frequent

and natural meals, hydrate and sleep at least 8 hours per night. this might be a slower process but you are not damaging your health and the results wiLL be permanent.

MemBerS of the rolling Stones and the Beatles have always refuted a feud, but Stones' guitarist keith richards' latest comments on the fab

four are anything but complimentary.the 71-year-old rocker has just finished touring the Us with his band - formed in London in 1962 - and despite having outlasted the Beatles Keith still had plenty to say.

speaking to Esquire magazine, Keith slammed the Beatles for losing the roots of their sound during a meteoric-rise to the top of the charts in the 1960s and even went so far as to label their sgt. Pepper's album as 'a load of s**t'.

talking to scott Raab, the legendary rocker laid into sir Paul McCartney and co., saying: 'the Beatles sounded great when they were the Beatles. But there's not a lot of roots in that music. I think they got carried away.'

But while fans of the stones might agree with his statement, music fans around the world could be incensed by his views on the Beatles' chart-conquering sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

talking of their 1967 album which hit the number one spot -and has also been named Rolling stone magazine's number one album of all time - Keith said: 'some people think it's a genius album, but I think it's a mishmash of rubbish, kind of like —"Oh, if you can make a load of shit, so can we".' But while John Lennon and Paul McCartney's modern psychedelic masterpiece conquered the charts, the stones' own attempt at the genre, their satanic Majesties - released the same year -, only achieved a

peak place at number three.though the bands have always denied that their

musical rivalry extended to anything beyond the charts, these latest scathing comments from Keith are not the first shots to be fired.

In an interview with the Radio times in 2011, sir Paul McCartney candidly spoke of sir Mick Jagger's playful joshing when it came to the Beatles and their recipe for pop success.

sir Paul revealed that Mick appeared to be jealous of the Liverpudlian quartet's musical abilities, explaining: 'I could sing, John could sing, George could sing and Ringo did numbers that he could sing. so it wasn't just the front man and the back-up band.

'We were an entity. Mick used to call us the Four-headed Monster.'

But while the two bands have always maintained a cordial friendship, despite the occasional dig at each other, the same could not be said of the original members of the Rolling stones themselves.

In-fighting in the London-based band has seen the likes of Brian Jones (co-founder and guitarist), Ian stewart (keyboards and co-founder), Mick taylor (guitarist) and Bill Wyman (Bassist) all leave over the years.

And alluding to the fact that the bands' internal feuds have never quite healed, Keith spoke of a recent spat with former Bassist Bill - who left the band in 1993.

Explaining that the plaque that was put up at Dartford station, Kent, in 2013 to mark sir Mick and Keith's first meeting had provoked a jealous outburst

from their former band-mate, as it states the pair are the band's founders.

Keith revealed that Jagger had had to send a note to Wyman - who had blasted the pair in public - telling him to calm down.

But while they obviously still have

their schisms within the badn's history, Keith showed there's no real hard-feelings by saying Bill is one of the best bass players he has ever heard or worked with.

Making water from the air sounds miraculous but this is exactly what Water Maker Atmospheric Water Generator from aqua air does. Its produces fresh water from the moisture in the air through the age old process of condensation. The water is more hydrating than tap water, it is chemical free and good for you. Come and try it for yourself at the radio Life & Stlye 88.0fm studio.

Peugeot 308 1.2t gt Line

tHe peugeot 308 1.2t gt Line looks like it means business. the sophisticated daylight running lights and sweeping

front indicators combined with the stylish rear complete with twin faux exhaust cowlings instantly set it apart from the crowd.

And it’s cool on the inside too. the design is minimalist, with a single touchscreen infotainment unit focusing attention to what counts. the traditional handbrake has disappeared and is replaced by an electronic parking brake button. Materials used in the cabin are either soft-touch plastics, leather or metal that exudes a feeling of smooth sophistication. the steering wheel has been borrowed from the Peugeot 208 GtI and is small yet comfortable and functional.

One of the most eye-catching features is the instrumentation, where the rev counter moves in the opposite direction to a regular car’s. It offers plenty of other features, like massage seats, UsB/Aux/Bluetooth connectivity and park distance control front and back.

the 308 offers six airbags, EsP, ABs, hill assist, tyre pressure sensors and IsOFIX mounts, and scored five stars in

its 2013 EuroNCAP crash test.the 308 1.2Gt Line is powered by

a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivering 96 kW and 230 Nm. It’s a hot little motor, delivering good pull from low revs, and the solid six-speed gearbox gives it plenty of grunt. It’s light on fuel too, with a stated figure of 4.6L/100km, although this might be a little optimistic

It handles well on sporty 17-inch alloy wheels although we found it tends to oversteer slightly if pushed.

We think Peugeot has a winner here and it’s priced competitively for the market it’s intended to appeal to.

the Peugeot 308 1.2t Gt Line retails for R329 900 and comes with a three-year or 100 000km manufacturer’s warranty, a five-year or 60 000km service plan, and a three-year or 100 000km roadside assistance package. Peugeot south Africa is trying its hardest to rectify its past service (or lack thereof) efforts and this includes a guaranteed loan car as well as a guaranteed buy back option.

It’s available for a test drive at Peugeot Umhlanga, 15 Meridian Drive, Umhlanga. Call Danie snyman on 031 580 7900 for a great deal (tell him Dave sent you!)

tHe world's fastest female biker cheated death after crashing her bike at over 320kmph

in front of horrified motorsport fans.

Becci Ellis, 46, was trying to beat her own speed record and had reached 408kmph when her 1300cc superbike was hit by a gust of wind and veered off the track.

spectators - including husband Mick - watched as the turbo-powered suzuki Hayabusa swerved onto the grass and careered out of control for a quarter of a mile before the mother-of-two was violently thrown off.

thanks to armour-plating inside her racing suit, the It analyst escaped with just a broken ankle, severe bruising and whiplash.

But she was able to leave hospital within eight hours to watch the motorcycle competition continue at Elvington airfield in North Yorkshire, UK.

Recuperating at her home, Mrs Ellis said: ‘I had just gone through the speed

gate at 408kmph when the wind caught me. I was still doing around 354 and it made me sit up in the saddle and in less than a second the bike had got onto the grass.

‘It was a very bumpy ride - and I knew it was going to end in pain. I managed to keep the bike upright but I was still doing around 144kmph when the bike finally dug into the dirt and spat me off. I landed on my

front and blacked out briefly but the paramedics were there very quickly.

‘When they got to me I saw that Mick was looking a bit grey - it must have been very worrying for people watching but my armour under my leathers saved me from a lot more serious injuries.

‘It was decided that because of the high speed of the impact I should go to casualty so they called the air ambulance which meant I was in Leeds hospital fifteen minutes after the crash.

‘I was checked over and they found I had a broken ankle which will mean won’t be able to get back on a bike for a few months which is very frustrating.
