INTRODUCTION

Self Help Groups (SHGs

Villages are faced with problems related to poverty illiteracy, lack of skills health care

etc. hese are problems that cannot be tackled individually but can be better solved through

group efforts. oday these groups known as Self help groups have become the vehicle of change

for the poor and marginali!ed. Self"help group is a method of organising the poor people and the

marginali!ed to come together to solve their individual problem.

he S#$ method is used by the government, %$&s and others worldwide. he poor

collect their savings and save it in banks. 'n return they receive easy access to loans with a small

rate of interest to start their micro unit enterprise. housands of the poor and the marginali!ed

population in 'ndia are building their lives, their families and their society through Self help

groups. he (th five year plan of the government of 'ndia had given due recognition on the

importance and the relevance of the Self"help group method to implement developmental

schemes at the grassroots level.

MEANING

Self #elp $roup is a homogeneous group of micro entrepreneurs with affinity among

themselves, voluntarily formed to save whatever amount they can conveniently save out of their

earnings and mutually agree to contribute to a common fund of the group from which small loans

are given to the members for meeting their productive and emergent credit needs at such rate of

interest, period of loan and other terms as the group may decide.

their loan from 'ndian Bank as guided by 5edcrot.

hey have used their personal savings in buying raw materials and paying rent for their

enterprise.

So far ochadai garments have collected their orders from alyani te@, A* garments,

aleeshwari te@tiles and others to stitch blouse, silk skirt, salwar kamee!, inskirt , night dresses

etc. they collect their orders on lot si!e basis.

MARKETING

S#$ moves from shop to shop to canvas about their enterpriseDs activity. hrough word of

mouth they try to promote their self help group.

TRAINING

Members of the self help group who donDt know about sewing require training to develop their

skill. raining time period take a long time to impart skill. raining is given by the group leader.

SOLUTIONS

o avoid delay in delivery of outfits to customers due to power cut ochadai garment

S#$ can make use manual machine.

amaged and wastage cloth can be use to make head bands, hair bands, dolls, slippers

designs, mats, table cloth , cushion cover , stuffing etc.

$roup head should take responsibilities for losses in the business and try to solve disputes

and conflicts among group members.

'f members are technically sound damages, accidents and wastages can be reduced.

Members must be concerned about finishing their lot on time to satisfy their customers.

CONCLUSION

5rom this e@tension activity we came to know about the difficulties faced by women Self help

$roup and the requirements to run a S#$. *ractical knowledge about the tailoring lessons were

gathered by us with respect to the suppliers of materials, customers e@pectations, recycle

damaged materials or outfits.
