Year 2 had a fantastic time at ‘Your

Space’ in Seear’s Park, fortunately the weather held out for both classes. We went on a tree trail collecting different types of leaves, potted plants to take home, visited the bee hive and went on a mini-beast hunt. We even managed to plant some

pollinating plants. ‘I loved having the toad on my hand. It felt warm and it looked very comfortable.’ (Caleb – Saturn Class). ‘I didn’t want to touch the newt because I didn’t want to hold something so slimy.’ (Orpheas – Saturn Class). ‘The toad was tickly on my hand and didn’t jump about!’ (Max – Saturn). ‘I was really surprised that my mum went into the bee hive! I think she loved it but I didn’t want her to get stung.’ (Ryan – Jupiter). ’I learnt that the world has lost 70% of its pollinating

flowers.’ (Zunaira – Jupiter).

On Friday 14th June, Reception went to Bocketts Farm. We had a fantastic day being farmers! We fed lots of the animals and we got to see a goat being milked. Before lunch we had the opportunity to have a tractor ride. This was very bumpy

but lots of fun!

We also got to see some pig racing, this was very exciting. We learnt a lot about all of the animals and what we gain from them.

We had a great day and we were very tired from all of the fun by the end of the trip.

It couldn’t have been a better trip to the farm and it was a wonderful stimulus for our topic 'Are Eggs Alive?’.

Yesterday morning, the sun shone down on our

field and the children from Nursery through to Year Two took part in our sports day. Mrs Jenkins had prepared some of the events to reflect the PE skills we have been learning this year and she also invited PE students from Cheam High to come and help. Everybody had a great time, testing themselves with activities

ranging from dribbling a football to accurately throwing beanbags. One of the trickiest things to do was manage to walk on the monster feet! ‘I liked when we were jumping on the ladders because we had to high 5 the next person!’.Arwin, Jupiter. ‘I like the egg and spoon race – it was fun and I only dropped it once.’ Annie, Mercury. ‘I liked throwing the beanbags because all the time I got one in!’ Jacob, Pluto. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us. Congratulations go to all the children in St Patrick’s and St George’s who were joint winners.

Year 6 have been to Maes-y-Lade for their 5 day residential. Throughout the week, Aquila and Cygnus embarked on a variety of adventures. We were all split into groups, in which we did different activities each day. The activities included: rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, horse-riding and much more… One the first day, the whole class reached

to the peak of Mount Twmpa. For many, this was a very challenging experience, as was the rest of the trip. While groups were canoeing, many people were soaking as their boat capsized! As well as that, groups went horse riding. Many found it exhilarating but nerve-racking. Hiking was a brilliant team building exercise and it was great fun. Due to unfortunate weather, Aquila were unable to rock climb outside as it was too dangerous. However, both classes thoroughly enjoyed their rock climbing experiences. In summary, it was a magical, exhilarating experience which was enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike! by Anisha and Kristina

Thursday afternoon saw the KS2 sports day, during which the pupils of our four houses (St Andrew’s, St David’s, St George’s and St Patrick’s) competed against each other in

friendly rivalry. The afternoon began with the girls’ and boys’ sprints for each year group. Pupils and parents lined the track, cheering for their friends and the people representing their house. Following the sprints, each class rotated around a range of activities designed to show and use the PE skills

that they have been developing over the year – coordination, teamwork, speed, accuracy etc. It was great to see all the pupils actively involved. The event benefited greatly from the support of 15 PE students from Cheam High School, who helped to run the activities, along with their teacher Miss Wilson. We were also joined by Mr Gale who has been supporting the teaching of PE at St Dunstan’s over the last couple of years and Mrs Webb who has played such an important part in PE at school over many years. Very many thanks to the parents and carers who were able to come along and support the event and well done to all of the pupils of KS2, who entered into the afternoon with great enthusiasm. Congratulations go to the pupils of St Patrick’s House, who ended the day with the highest score and won the event.

To complete our 'Time Traveller' topic and our focus on the changes over

time in Cheam, Year 5 visited Nonsuch Park and Nonsuch Mansion. We had learnt much about Nonsuch Palace during our work on The Tudors and although the palace is no longer there, Mr Dawson took us to the sight of the palace and we mapped out the foundations. We also visited Nonsuch Mansion, which was built in 1802. We looked around the dairy, pantry, scullery, kitchen and laundry rooms where we were able to gain an understanding of what life might have been like for the Farmer family who lived there during the Victorian period.

A massive thank you to our wonderful swimming squad who attended the 2019 School Swimming Gala on Friday

14th June. Our team was raring to go and ready to compete and their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the evening was outstanding. You would have never guessed that, for some of our younger swimmers, this was their first gala experience, but they enjoyed themselves and were full of energy and smiles.

An incredible effort and display of teamwork goes to our Year 6’s, who, although shattered from their recent travels, managed to swim with courage and determination; giving each event their very best. Year 5 really stepped up, as they raced against year 6’s and held their own. We are considerably proud of them all for securing overall

6th place out of 8 schools and winning many Gold, Silvers and Bronze medals along the way. Quote of the night “I’ll do whatever race you need me to do Miss, anything for the team” Fraser.

Thank you for all our wonderful supporters who helped cheer us along and we hope to see you next year and also a huge thank you to Fraser’s brother for being our timekeeper.

2019 School Swimming Gala

We would like to congratulate Mrs Melanie Roberts and the catering team at St Dunstan’s for being presented with a Marketing & Events Award. The catering team have decorated the servery with ‘themed’ decorations at the end of each half-term and at Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Wimbledon Tennis, Comic Relief and much more.

Congratulations to you all.

We are continuing to collect vouchers from Woodcote Green Garden Centre which can be exchanged for

plants and equipment. Thank you to everyone who have supported this scheme.

Swimmers: Year 4: Jessica K, Harry R, Noah K. Year 5: Tia C, Joe D, Fraser H, Haydn J, Sophie R, Emaya K, Year 6: Ella H, William L, Amelia B, Oliver K.

As part of St Dunstan’s drive to reuse and recycle as much as possible, we are pleased to announce that

we are joining with the National Schools Partnership to promote the recycling of batteries. Your children

have been given a cardboard box for collecting used batteries from home. When it is full, please bring it

back to school and empty it into the containers in the school entrance, so that we can send the batteries on to a reclamation

site. This will help to prevent some of the 600 million batteries that the UK throws away each year, from going into landfill. Instead, they will

be taken apart and the chemicals that could have poisoned the land will be reused to make something new. Thank you for your support.
