WHY THE AMERICAN FLAG IS

FOLDED 13 TIMES

The First fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The Third fold is made in honor and remembrance of theveterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of theirlives for the defense of our country to attain peacethroughout the world.

The Fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for asAmerican citizens trusting, it is to Him we turn in times ofpeace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The Fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the wordsof Stephen Decatur, “Our Country, in dealing with othercountries may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.”

Pg 2

Page 3: July'10 newsletter

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with ourheart that we pledge allegiance to the Flag of the UnitedStates of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under god, indivisible, with liberty and justicefor all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it isthrough the Armed Forces that we protect our country andour flag against all her enemies, whether they be foundwithin or without6 the boundaries of our Republic.

The Eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into thevalley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light ofday, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother’sDay.

The Ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for is has beenthrough their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that thecharacter of the men and women who have made thiscountry great has been molded.

The Tenth fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, havegiven his sons and daughters for the defense of our countrysince they were first born.

The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizenrepresents the lower portion of the seal of King David andKing Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God ofAbraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The Twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes,God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.

When the Flag is completely folded the stars are uppermostreminding us of our Nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.”After the Flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takeson the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of thesolders who served under General George Washington, andthe Sailors and Marines who served under Captain JohnPaul Jones, who were followed by their comrades andshipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms weenjoy today.

Why? Why? Why?

Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath youuse, the bubbles are always white?

Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the endyou try first?

Why doesn’t glue stick to the bottle?

Bible Quiz ?????

The New Testament encourages Christians toremember that we have a responsibility to respectgovernmental authority. Good government is seen tobe “God’s servant for your good” (Romans 13:4) It was for that reason that St. Paul told the RomanChristians to “pay to all what is due them- taxes towhom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honoris due” (Romans 13:7) But what if a government is corrupt and againstGod and the Church? St. John, toward the end of thefirst century, would not bow down to Caesar and hailhim as a god. Neither would many other Christians. What was John’s advice to his fellow Christiansunder such circumstances?

A. No longer bow down to those who defile you and the name of the LordB. Ignore the ruler who is a haughty and blasphemous beast.C. Endure the pain and remain faithful to God.

The answer is in the finalphrase of Rev. 13:10

S T E W A R D S H I PTHOUGHT....

Summer is here! It is time forchildren to be out of school (andteachers too!!!) VBS is now overand some families will betraveling across this country inthe months of July & August.

Summer is also a time for your church’s expenses toaccelerate. Yes, even though you might be gone and thefamily that sits in front of you each Sunday is gone theexpenses at St. John’s continues just like it does at yourhome. And it does increase during the summer months ofJune through August. For all of 2009, our home offerings exceeded the expensesby $4,300. However, during the months of June throughAugust, the expenses exceeded offerings by $5,000!!!Expenses for these months represented 27.4% of the total2009 expenses while offerings represented 23.4% of thetotal 2009 offerings. Amazing how the summer expensescontinue!

Just a thought.....................
