I hope your Christmas was good and now we look forward to the New Year. I want to thank everyone who was generous to the parish and me at Christmas. As we anticipate the new year, now is the time to pray. Pray that our world be-comes a happier place to live and grow old. Pray that we might become kinder to each other. Pray that the divisions among us might be healed. Pray for our hearts that we may more easily forgive and be forgiven. Pray that kindness and compassion might be the rule by which we measure. Pray that we treat each other with respect. Let us realize that words do hurt us and others. May we as a parish do our part to make our world a better place this year. Happy 2020!
Father Bob Samson

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! Spiritual Leadership
Joseph is a model of spiritual leadership. Humility and obedi-ence are not things that are praised in our culture today. But, remember, our goal is not possessing more things on earth, rather our goal is eternal life with God! Spiritual warfare is real. Through silence, we are able to discern God’s will for us and our families. Studies show that when dad takes his faith seriously, so do his children. Men, the best thing we can do for our families is to be the men God is calling us to be, to be the spiritual leaders for our families. The best gift we can give our families is to teach them how to pray.

Stewardship Awareness “Wives, be subordinate to your husbands...Husbands, love your wives...Children, obey your parents in everything...Fathers, do not provoke your children…” Colossians 3:18-21 Pope Francis said that families, through their life of prayer and love, become “schools of true human growth.” Being credible witnesses of Christian love, especially that of family members, exerts the most posi-tive influence on our children. We are all children of God, let us pray and love each other as God, Our Father, does for us.
There will be Mass and Anointing of the Sick next Sat., Jan. 4 at 9am. This is available for all experiencing serious physical, mental or spiritual illness.
NO SCHOOL - Dec. 30 - Jan. 3. School will re-sume on Mon., Jan. 6.

PLAN FOR YOUR TAXES NOW Here are ways to reduce taxes, even if you do not itemize on your tax return:
• Donate appreciated stock or real estate. Donating these items to St Joseph could eliminate capital gains tax.
• You can name St. Joseph as a beneficiary of your IRA. These assets remain taxable when distributed to a loved one, but are tax free when donated to St. Joseph.
• If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can use the IRA charitable rollover to make a tax-free gift to St. Joseph. The law al-lows you to transfer directly from your IRA without paying taxes on the distribution and this gift can satisfy all or part of your required distribution. The transfer doesn't generate taxable income or a tax deduction.
There will be a blood drive this Thu., Jan. 2 from 3:30pm-6:30pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in St. Paul, MO. New donors and walk-ins are welcome.
2019 Contributions Any donations to be included in your 2019 contribution statement must be postmarked or made online by Dec. 31. Thank you for your generosity to our parish throughout the year! 2020 Wall Calendars Pitman Funeral Home has given us many 2020 wall calendars that are located in the front entrance of church. Feel free to take one home. These calendars have listed all the holy days and feast days of the year. Guatemala Medical Mission Our parish mission team is re-turning to Guatemala at the end of January to provide medical care for the poor. The mission team is accepting monetary do-nations to be used for the purchase of medications and supplies in Guatemala. Donations may be dropped off at the parish of-fice or placed in the regular collection, but should be put in an envelope marked “Mission”. If by check, please make it out to "St Joseph Church” and write “Mission” in the memo line. We appreciate your continued prayers and generous support. Con-tact Deacon David and Chris Billing for more information. St. Joseph Prayer Chain If you have a prayer request of im-mediate need, contact Sandra Rothermich at 636-978-4896 or at [email protected]. (Please note this is a new email address.) Sandra will immediately get your prayer request out to all the members on the prayer chain. Aluminum Can Recycling Please put your aluminum cans in tied plastic bags and place them in the designated bin inside the large shed located between the rectory and the new Mark Gill Soccer Field. Save the Date! The 7th Annual Dinner Auction will be Sat., Jun. 20, 2020. If interested in donating an item or service for the auction, please contact Bonnie Roettger at 314-313-8550.
