I love decoraƟng the Trees, and puƫng the lights up on the house etc. Most of all though, I truly look forward to the Ɵme spent with my family just enjoying some re- laxing Ɵme with each other. However, in order to get to that point, we have to go through a very busy Ɵme here at school. Though it is true that there are only 14 more school days in 2015, those 14 days are very busy ones indeed! We have three days of Drama performances of Footloose beginning Tuesday, Dec. 1st and the Band Christmas Concert Dec. 10. Basketball teams are now being selected and are gearing up for some early pre-Christmas games. We have our annual “Showcase” talent show on Friday, December 18th. As well, our Students Union has several acƟviƟes planned for the month of December to help everyone get into the holiday spirit! All of this, of course, is on top of the academic workload that exists, with the end of the semester approaching so rapidly aŌer the Christmas holiday. In fact, there are only 15 instrucƟonal days aŌer the break before exams begin, so all total there are only 29 instrucƟonal days leŌ in this semester! Therefore, in order to really have a resƞul holi- day, it would be wise for students to begin doing some review work right now, especially for those in English or Social 30, who have the Part A’s of their Diploma exams on January 13th and 14th. Now is the Ɵme to begin planning and studying ladies and gentlemen, so that you can enjoy some quality family Ɵme over the holiday. We have met with all the Grade 12’s to discuss GraduaƟon requirements, and it has been explained to the group that in order to have their name on the grad list there are some qualicaƟons that need to be met. Namely, students in online courses have to be more than 50% nished their course; all school fees have to be paid, or have arrangements made to be paid; students must not have aƩendance issues; students must be registered in enough credits to graduate. Finally, I would like to thank all of the volunteer coaches this Volleyball season, as well as the stasupervisors who supported those volunteer coaches! It is a really big deal when volunteers from the community sacrice a great deal of Ɵme from their family and friends and devote it instead to the youth in our school and community. Thank-you to Jaylene Janzen and Spencer Hayes for coaching the JV girls, and to Mr. Courchene for being the staadvisor. As well we would like to thank Luke Schoenfelder for coaching the Sr. Boys, (Advisors)…and of course thank you to Mrs. Fedor for coaching the Sr. Girls, and congratula- Ɵons for winning the Zone Championship! Thank-you and enjoy a very Merry Christmas with friends and family!

I know that with everything involved the Christmas Holiday season can be busy and stressful, but I really do love this  me of year!  I love decora ng

the Trees, and pu ng the lights up on the house etc.  Most of all though, I truly look forward to the  me spent with my family just enjoying  some re-laxing  me with each other.    However, in order to get to that point, we have to go through a very busy me here at school.  Though it is true that there are only 14 more school days in 2015,

those 14 days are very busy ones indeed! As well, our Students Union has several ac vi es planned for the month of December to help everyone get into the holiday spirit!  All of this, of course, is on top of the academic workload that exists, with the end of the semester approaching so rapidly a er the Christmas holiday.  In fact, there are only 15 instruc onal days a er the break before exams begin, so all total there are only 29 instruc onal days le  in this semester!  Therefore, in order to really have a res ul holi-day, it would be wise for students to begin doing some review work right now, especially for those in English or Social 30, who have the Part A’s of their Diploma exams on January 13th and 14th.  Now is the  me to begin planning and studying ladies and gentlemen, so that you can enjoy some quality family  me over the holiday. We have met with all the Grade 12’s to discuss Gradua on requirements,  and it has been explained to the group that in order to have their name on the grad list there are some qualifica ons that need to be met.  Namely, students in online courses have to be more than 50% finished their course; all school fees have to be paid, or have arrangements made to be paid; students must not have a endance issues; students must be registered in enough credits to graduate.    Finally, I would like to thank all of the volunteer coaches this Volleyball season, as well as the staff supervisors who supported those volunteer coaches!  It is a really big deal when volunteers from the community sacrifice a great deal of  me from their family and friends and devote it instead to the youth in our school and community.  Thank-you  to Jaylene Janzen and Spencer Hayes for coaching the JV girls, and to Mr. Courchene for being the staff advisor.  As well we would like to thank Luke Schoenfelder  for coaching the Sr. Boys, (Advisors)…and of course thank you to Mrs. Fedor for coaching the Sr. Girls, and congratula-ons for winning the Zone Championship!

The JV Girls volleyball team's season was one filled with tremendous growth. In our first tournament we weren't very successful as we had very li le  me to actually prac ce and work as a team and it showed. As the season went on how-ever, we found that our compe veness and skill level increased each and every tournament. We were able to compete with some of the best teams in each tournament and there were very few games that we didn't at least have a chance to win. When we got to zones, I was very confident that our team would compete in every game and would refuse to quit and that's exactly what they did. Although the end result wasn't what we expected, the team had improved each and every week of the season and as a coach that's all you can ask. Our team worked tremendously hard throughout the sea-son. We had a good combina on of leadership between both grade 10 and 11 players. I'm extremely proud of the girls and the amount of work they put in in order to improve individually, and as a team. I wish all the girls the best of luck in their future volleyball careers.

Submi ed by Coach Spencer Hayes

The Senior Girls Volleyball team this year made one of my professional and person-al goals come true.  Winning the zone banner is something I have coveted for too many years.  Some of the Alumni players that came to watch our games this past weekend and cheered like they were all s ll a part of it, know all too well how it has felt to come so close and yet not reach that final moment of victory... but this year we did it!!!

The season started off well with only a few prac ces and placing third in Beau-mont.  Within just a weeks  me, we had captured Gold against Living Waters from Spruce Grove in our home tournament.  We had never gone south in past seasons but tried a new tournament in Ponoka.  We faced different teams we had never come across before losing a close game to Rimbey in the semi final, and winning the Bronze medal against Christ the King from Leduc.  We returned to Mayerthorpe for the fourth year in a row.  We were sec-ond in our pool going into playoffs.  We beat Donnelly Vipers in the quarter final, Fort Mac in the semi which brought us to the final against the home town team and our zone ri-vals.  We beat them in two straight sets and came home with the first place prize - bright orange "Mayerthorpe Tigers' toques!  It definitely wasn't about the prize but the pride of bea ng the Tigers who had shut us down for the last four years.  In  the Zone tournament, the girls honestly played close to flawless volleyball.  We were undefeated all weekend again bea ng Mayerthorpe in the semi and Onoway in the final.  Interes ngly enough,

Onoway insisted that they should be ranked higher than us going into the zone com-pe on, and we beat them four  mes in this event.    We are now off to our first provincial volleyball experience in Vauxhall Alberta.  I'm super proud of these young ladies and they have worked so hard.  One of our dads has kept track of our win/loss record.  We have played over 40 teams in this short two

month season with 62 wins and 29 losses.     Thank you John Maland students and staff for your support!!
