John Maland High School It’s hard to believe that it is almost March and that 6 months of school have already gone by. Things begin to get very busy now as we move towards spring. In March, we will see our Basketball teams challenge for Zone and Provincial Championships and we wish them all the best. As well, we will see our bands represent our school at Music Fesvals, and we know they will once again make us proud and we support them. As we move through April to June, there will be many oth- er opportunies to show pride in our school through various athlec teams, such as badminton, rugby, and track, as well as year-end Drama and Band performances that showcase our students and their tal- ents. Finally, there will be individual opportunies for students to celebrate as they push themselves to do their absolute best in their courses and exams. It is never too early to begin preparing for final exams, especially for our grade 12’s who are begin- ning to seriously think about Graduaon! Grade 12 students - please begin to prepare right now to ensure that you are eligible for Graduaon. Appropriate courses, credits, credit load, school and library fees must all be taken in to account to be sure that there are no sur- prises when the graduaon list is posted in May. Please take this responsibil- ity seriously, so that all of the supporters who have helped you through this educaon journey can celebrate this most important milestone with you. We will be hosng our annual Open House on Thursday, March 10th, where Grade 9 students from the area junior high schools, along with their parents, are invited to preview our awesome school. Come and take part in a brief presentaon in the gym, followed by guided tours throughout the facility. We welcome the opportunity to show off all the JMHS has to offer. Thank you to all that participated in the Mundare Sausage Fundraising Campaign. We are looking at doing a couple more small fundraisers this spring. All profits will go towards paying for the decorations, DJ, etc., thereby lowering the price of ban-quet tickets. The deadline for submitting baby photos has been extended to Thursday, Mar. 3. Please get your picture in as soon as possible. These will be used in the video presentation at Commencement and in the school yearbook. On Feb. 8, 2016, the Grad Committee toured the banquet facility at the Hilton by DoubleTree West Edmonton. All were impressed with the facility. The decorator met us there, and we discussed numerous options and made some deci-sions as to what decor we would like. We are currently awaiting a quote from him. Once that is received, we will be in a better position to decide the price of the ban-quet tickets. We are also looking into having a “dance only” ticket that would be available, at a reduced price, to guests who do not want to attend the banquet. On Tuesday, March 8, the Grad Committee will be set up in the conference room to do gown measurements. The exact times will be announced. At that time, we will al-so have the Grads confirm the name they want printed on the certificate they will re-

ceive at the Commencement Ceremony. Please make sure your Grad is staying on top of their stud-ies to ensure they meet the requirements for Graduation. Grad news is posted on the Grad Board in the Student Lounge, on the monitors in the school, on the electronic sign, on the school website and right here in the news-letter. Emails and texts will be sent to parents as needed.

Just over 14 weeks until Grad 2016!
