Vision Statement

Incarnation Parish is a Roman Catholic community centered around the Lord Jesus, a living sign of hope to all that the Word made flesh dwells among us. His presence and love is encountered in all areas of our life together, especially in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in Sacred Scripture and in the Sacraments. We seek to make the Lord's presence and love known through service and edu-cation, through evangelization and through con-tinual conversion and renewal in Him. We entrust our life together and our sharing in the mission of Christ to the protection and intercession of Mary, Mother of the Lord and our Mother.

Bring a Friend to Church!

From the Pastor’s Pen

The Body of Christ: A Prophetic Sign of Unity and Concord Last week, I was in Atlanta for the National Meeting of the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions. This annual meeting has men and women from the various dioceses and local Churches all over the United States. It is always impressive to see their dedication, devotion and expertise concerning worship in our Catholic Tradition. Each annual meeting has a theme and is hosted by dioceses in different regions in the country. While this year’s theme “The Body of Christ: A Prophetic Sign of Unity and Concord,” was explored by many gifted and learned presenters over the three full days I could only think of you here at Incarnation. After some of the great tensions, particularly racial ones, that our nation has seen explode in recent years, the FDLC decided to take up such a focus this year in Atlanta. You, me, Father Chris could have easily given a presentation on the “Incarnation Experience.” I firmly believe that we can be a source of light and inspiration for other communities locally and across the country. It appears to me that our diversity is not a means to division but to equality. And just as was preached in the Gospel, “I will draw all people to Myself,” so here at the parish Jesus is our source of Unity. Different parents, grandparents and god-parents shared with us a Faith in the Person of Jesus on different continents and in different cultures. He is the one who gathers us around Him at the Altar on Sundays and during the week. To Him our voices harmonize as we raise them in varied song. And it’s His hand we find when we extend the Sign of Peace before Holy Communion. While so much goes well here is Bellaire we all know that things could always be better. It’s an honest acknowledgement that we are human and He is divine. It’s a self awareness that we have progress to make. It’s having open eyes to see that some actively work to bringing chaos to their own lives and the lives of others. Nevertheless, the Incarnation Experience is alive and well. As The Body of Christ We All Are A Prophetic Sign of Unity and Concord Together. That wont make it on the Nightly News or front page of the paper. But it is reason to invite someone else to join us around the Altar. It is reason to reach out to another, maybe under our own roof or on our own block who might be looking for a peace that this world cannot give. God Bless!

The Annual Catholic Appeal: Answer the Call! Please join us in our support of the various ministries and outreaches of the diocese which cannot be undertaken alone here at Incarnation. Use the form below and simply put it in an envelope marked “Catholic Appeal,” drop the gift in the collec-tion and the parish will send it to the Appeal Office. Envelopes are also by the doors of the church today. You may mail your pledge directly to 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Our Parish Goal is 500 pledges. Please be one of them. Give a gift today. All monies collected over goal will stay here at the parish. Even a small or one tine gift is both needed and most appreciated.

LIVING LIGHTS. Securing an Annual Living Light Votive Candle to Honor a Loved One, Remember a Special Intention, or Mark a Milestone is a con-tinual and wonderful way to celebrate sentiments and offer intercessions of remembrance, hope and gratitude. Two wall mounted electric candle stands now hang in our church on either side of

the newly restored and expanded Saints’ Shrine. These unique and inviting candles are made of real wax with electrified illumination to insure your Living Light burns brightly throughout the year. A plaque displaying the name of your loved one, your intention, or your milestone will be mounted before your Living Light Votive Candle. Plaques will remain for the year you have secured your Living Light and may be renewed or rededicated for addi-tional 12 month periods. In addition to its rightful place before your Living Light in the Saints’ Shrine, your Loved One, Special Intention, or Milestone will also be included in the Living Light Section of the Parish Website. See the blue brochure by the church doors or contact the rectory for more info: 718-465-8534.

The Shepherd Speaks

The young man did not allow himself to be con-quered by Jesus’ loving gaze, and thus was not able to change. Only by accepting with humble gratitude the love of the Lord do we free ourselves from the seduction of idols and the blindness of our illusions. Money, pleasure, success dazzle but then disappoint: they promise life but procure death. The Lord asks us to detach ourselves from these false riches in order to enter into true life,

the full, authentic, luminous life. I ask you, young people, young men and young women, who are here now in the Square: “Have you felt Jesus’ gaze up-on you? Do you prefer to leave this Square with the joy that Jesus gives us or with the sadness of heart that worldliness offers us?”- Ang—11X15

Gracious God and Father, we enter into your presence realizing you know us better than we know our-selves. You know the cares and suf-ferings we carry in our hearts. You call us to holiness and we trust you to lead us together on our journey to be a renewed Church, for with you all things are possible. Create us anew in Jesus Christ your Son. Liberate us from all that keeps us from you. Heal us from every form of sin and vio-lence. Transform us to live your Word more profoundly. Awaken us to the sacred; rebuild trust among us. Enliven our parishes; reunite our families. May your Holy Spirit empower us to live as a community of love, freed to share in your work of recreating our world and restoring justice. We believe you are doing something new, calling us to arise together in Christ to celebrate the fullness of life. Amen.

MINISTRY OF HOSPITALITY. Those who are inter-ested in the Ministry of Hospi-tality to welcome visitors and parishioners to our doors at Sunday Mass are asked to con-

tact Father O’Connor for more information. This ministry is a result of the Parish Assembly and parishioners’ desire to make Incarnation a more welcoming place.

New Nativity Statues. To help cel-ebrate our Parish Feast, the Liturgy Committee last year decided to get additional figures for the Nativity sce-ne to be placed in our church each Christmas. We thank the members of the Haitian Choir, Sacred Hearts’ Prayer Groups for sponsoring our October Hospitality Sunday. Hospitality Sundays will take place each month letting the unity shared around the Altar flow into our solidarity as the Family of Incarnation.

2018 ANNUAL CATHOLIC AP-PEAL continues with 234 pledges to the sum of $43, 869. Our parish goal is $45,290. Once again we look for-ward to a successful pledge drive at Incarnation mindful that every penny collected over goal returns to the par-ish. If you have never given to the

appeal before please consider doing so this year. Pledge envelopes are by the doors of the church. With the partici-pation of every parishioner we are guaranteed success! An-swer the Call!
