Delayed Score Reports for ELA EOG New EOG ELA assessments designed to align to the English Language Arts North Carolina Standard Course of Study was adopted by the State Board of Education in 2017. New EOG summative tests that are aligned to these new standards were originally scheduled for the spring of 2020, but due to school closures, they will be administered to students for the first-time during spring 2021. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will process the test data and complete all necessary analyses during summer 2021. As a result, EOG scores for grades 4 through 8 Reading will be delayed until August 2021. Due to the delay of test scores, schools will use other available student information to assign final grades and/or make placement decisions. Once the SBE has approves the scores (achievement levels) in August 2021, schools will provide parents with student’s scores and Individual Student Reports. For further information, please see Delayed Scores EOG Reading Parent Letter. Delayed Scores Letter - English Delayed Scores Letter - Spanish

New Dismissal Procedures

Effective Monday, April 19th, we will begin using all three lanes of carpool in the afternoon. For this to be successful, it is imperative that all cars stay in the lane they are assigned and do not switch lanes or change order after their numbers are entered. We will follow the same current procedures by loading one lane at a time to ensure students are not walking through cars. Please be sure to put your car in park whenever your child is exiting or entering your vehicle.

Also, beginning Monday, April 19, if you do not have your students’ school issued carpool tag, you will be asked to park and check your child out from the front office with an ID. The front office will be closed from 1:30 pm until the end of carpool.

Here are a few other reminders to ensure a smooth, timely and effective carpool experience:

• Have your child’s school issued carpool tag out and visible for the entire time you are in carpool. When pulling forward to pick up your child, please have the tag visible in the driver's window to make it easier for the staff to see and call for students to get them ready.

• Follow the directions of the carpool staff.

• Pull all the way forward both while in line and when pulling up to pick up your child. This ensures we can fit as many cars in the loop as possible and we are not spilling out onto Taylor Road.

• Please stay off your cell phones. We have seen many distracted drivers lately and some close calls related to the safety of our staff.

• Review your carpool number with your student and make sure they know it. Encourage your child to be watching for your car during carpool.

Carpool procedures in the morning WILL NOT CHANGE. We will continue to use 2 lanes.

Thanks in advance for your help with carpool.

Meal Pick Ups for Mobile Learners

5-day meal packs will be available for pick-up each Wednesday from 8:00 AM -9:00 AM and

1:00 PM -2:00 PM in the front office.

Purchasing Breakfast/Lunch It is very important that students are provided a healthy breakfast and lunch. If a student requests breakfast or lunch at school, we are obligated by law to provide the meal. Sometimes, students ask for breakfast and lunch but may not need it. By putting your information in this survey, you are saying that you give Cardinal Charter Academy at Wendell Falls permission to not allow your child to purchase breakfast and/or lunch at their request. A note will be placed on their account. A form needs to be completed for each student. A link to the form can be found HERE.

2nd Semester Model of Learning

May 3rd was the last day to return to in-person learning. At this time, we will not be accepting any more in-person students for the reminder of the school year. Students may still move to mobile learning from in-person at any time, giving our staff 24 hours to make the change effective. This change will be in effect for the remainder of quarter 4.

Attendance Mobile Classrooms are reserved for students who are quarantined or have chosen mobile learning as their

mode of learning. If your child needs to be home because they are sick or any reason, they are not able to

join the mobile course. Parents should email [email protected] and their child’s homeroom

teacher to let the school know. Please reach out to your students' teacher for assignments. Non-COVID-19

absences should be reported to [email protected] as well.

As a reminder, attendance either in school or live virtual sessions is mandatory according to North Carolina

law. Excessive absences, tardies, and early pick-ups can result in reporting of truancy. Tardies and early check-

outs accumulate to absences, and excessive absences are reported as truancy. Our goal is to maximize every

minute of the school day with solid instruction for students. Students are not to be checked out after 1:30

pm. Our school day runs from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. If your child is picked up early, s/he should provide their

homeroom teacher with a doctor’s note. Without a doctor’s note, it will be marked as an early pickup/tardy in

our system. Doctor’s notes or any other concerns about absences can be emailed to

[email protected].
