Business ModelSource: Business Model Generation, Alexander Osterw alder & Yves Pigneur

• A business model describes how an enterprise creates, delivers, and captures value for the Clients and the Stakeholders

• Today countless innovative business models are emerging. Entirely new industries are forming as old ones crumble. Startups are challenging the old guard, some of whom are struggling feverishly to reinvent themselves…

In 2015…

• Uber , the world’s largest taxi company, owns no vehicles

• Facebook , the world’s most popular media owner, creates no content

• Alibaba , the most valuable retailer, has no inventory

• Airbnb , the world’s largest accommodation provider, owns no real estate

• Size does not matter when it comes to Digital Innovation : Startups are good at reinventing their Business Model; Big companies are good at Executing Business Models; some companies are good at both

Is really technology the driver for BMI?Source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ABboqyyny0

Some considerations about BMI

• Technology is only an enabler for Business Model Innovation (BMI) , just like others

• BMI is more about understanding, creativity, agility, passion, responsiveness, risk taking, influencing, teamwork, and other things

• BMI rarely happens by coincidence; it can be managed , structured into processes , and used to leverage the creative potential of an organization

• BMI is not something that stands on top of the enterprise; it has to be cascaded top-down to the very last brick of the organization

• BMI needs a set of capabilities, competencies and skilled professionals to lead the process

What is Business AnalysisSource: Babok Guide V. 3.0

• BA is the practice of enabling change in an enterprise by defining needs and recommending solutions that deliver value to stakeholders

• Enables an enterprise to articulate needs and the rationale for change , and to design and describe solutions that can deliver value

• The Why , before the What and the How

• How can the Babok ® Guide support Business Model Innovation ?

The Babok Guide V3.0 support to BMI (1)The Business Analysis mind frame

A BM must be defined first at enterprise level, and linked to the needs, goals and objectives

of the enterprise

•A BM must be built around the needs of the Stakeholders

•A BM has to be cascaded down in the enterprise at Stakeholders level

Define the transition from the current to the future state

A BM has to be supported by solutions, with specific (functional and non-functional) characteristics

11

The Babok Guide V3.0 support to BMI (2)The Business Analysis Tasks
