Value of Business Analysis (2)

• Understand (deeply) the Need (problem or opportunity, linear or wicked) and the impact on business: Why should we change?

• Define a Solution to the Need, for that specific Context: What should we become, given the Context?

• «Sell» the Solution by describing the Value: What is the Value in this change?

• Describe the Change: How much should we change? How shall we transitioning?

• Engage the Stakeholders in the change: Who are they? What are their needs? How should we engage them?

Challenges for mature enterprises

• Recognize there are gaps (between Strategy, Tactics, Projects and Operation, in understanding the Context, defining the Needs, the Solutions, the Value, the Change, engaging Stakeholders)

• Develop awareness on Business Analysis, as the discipline that helps in bridging these gaps

• Introduce and develop Business Analysis competencies (and Business Analysts) in the enterprise

• Position Business Analysts as «peers» in the organization, to improve the effectiveness of Business Analysis

• Recognize that being a Business Analyst is a profession, not a job

Challenges for startups

• Recognize that Innovation is made at business level, more than at Solution level (what makes a technology «disruptive» is the business model behind it, and not the technology itself)

• Understand that a great idea without Managerial competencies (Business Analysis first) is like a car with no fuel

• Develop Business Analysis competencies to «sell» the idea

• Develop Business Analysis competencies to build the Idea, the Company, and to make the business grow

• Develop Business Analysis competencies to make the business sustainable

Challenges for the IIBA

• Anticipate the Needs of the enterprises and understand the changes in their contexts, to make Business Analysis evolve accordingly

• Spread the discipline of Business Analysis across enterprises, to increase awareness of BA skills to improve business outcomes

• Develop solutions to introduce Business Analysis in the enterprises and monitor their effectiveness

• Meet with other professional associations to increase awareness of Business Analysis and the value it can bring to them (started with Project Management, Scrum Master and the Product Owner, Business Intelligence, IT, Process Managers/Reengineers, Business Architects, …)

• Develop the BA professionals and design BA careers, starting from University
