Representing and Attracting the Audience

• My target audience was all teenagers between the ages of 16 – 21. My magazine can be aimed at boys and girls as the content applies to both genders. I used both female and male models to attract both sexes. Especially when you consider Laura Mulvey’s ‘Male Gaze’ theory.

• In my magazine I used several different techniques to attract and represent the audience. These have ranged from the models I used to the colours I applied.

• I have an affordable price that means my target audience is able to obtain the magazine without having to save or rely on their parents for money.

• The Model: I used a young lady as the model on the cover so that youths would find it easy to relate to. The model is also dressed in Indie clothing to represent my audience.

• Colours: I used smooth, easy on the eyes colours so that the magazine would be eye catching to the audience.

• Relatability: I used Indie music festivals that my audience would most likely be attending to attract them to the magazine.

• Language: I used informal language that the audience could relate to. It is less intimidating and attracts more people.

• Typography: I used fun, carefree fonts so that the magazine seemed to be more attractive.

• Freebies: I offered free music and posters to attract my audience as in my research people said they wanted free things.

• My magazine attracts my audience due to the fact it is unique. It contains Indie music and exclusive interviews that you cannot find anywhere else. It would mean they would have to buy my magazine if they wanted to look at certain artists.

• I also used music festivals, like Reading, whose target audience that matches my magazines.
