4. CONSTRUCTION OF THE PUMP UNIT

The degree of provided by the enclosure with respect of the inside of the Terminal

Box (24) and a motor is lP54 (EN60034-5).

The sectional drawing of the basic model with hollow pump shaft is shown in Fig.-1 .

Motor (squirrel-cage induction motor ) is assembled with pump in one body. Inside of

Stator Assembly (20) and outside of Rotor Assembly (19) are welded and hermetically

seafed with a thin plate of non-magnetic metal; Stator Can (22) for Stator Assembly

and Rotor Can (21) for Rotor assembly so that the liquid will not enter into stator and

rotor.

Some handled liquid flows in the following order;

4-1. lmpeller (02) outlet --- Filter (03) --- Holes of F.B. Housing (32) ---r Gap between

Stator Can (22) and Rotor Can (21) --* Gap between rear Bearing (158) and Shaft (16)

..- R.B. Housing ('t4) --- Center bore of Shafr (16) ---l low pressure side of Casing (01)

or lnducer (04).

4-2. Another part of the circulating flow runs through hole of F.B. Housing(32) "- Gap

between front side Bearing (15A) and Shaft Sleeve(16) --.' Orifice formed by F. B.

Housing (32) and hub of lmpeller (02) "- low pressure side of the lmpeller (02).

4-3. This circulating flow works as lubricant and coolant for Bearings

(15A) and (158), as well as coolant for motor' Therefore, slurry in the handled liquid

and /or shortage of circulation flow cause troubles. Rotor Assembly (19) rotating in the

liquid and the shaft (16) supported by two bearings: front (15A) and rear (15B)' are in

one body. lmpeller (02) and Inducer (04) are installed on the end of the same shaft.

HE-11281

There is no shaft seal which may cause leakage.

The thrust forces produced by lmpeller (02) and Inducer (04) are supported by the front

and rear Thrust Collars (1 8A) and (188).

The front and rear Bearings (15A), (158), shaft sleeve (17) and thrust collars (18) are

consumable items. The wearing conditions should vary depending on the operating

conditions. Therefore, these items should be checked for their wearing conditions

periodically according to the Section 8-3.

. TRANSPORTAION AND CUSTODAY

(1) Avoid rough handling at the time of transportation and unloading. Confirm

whether there is any damage which may have occurred in transit.

(2) At the time of transportation, the range of ambient temperature shall be kept at

-25 - 70"C and the altitude of the transDortation route shall be 3000 meters

or below.

(3) When the pump is in the custody for long time, record the measurement of

insulation resistance on arrival. lf the motor is ooerated under the condition of

poor insulation, the accident such as short circuit may occur.

(4) A storage place should be well ventilated to avoid humidity and precautions

shall be taken to avoid blowing in and leaks in of rain water through the roof, and

puddles, etc.

(5) Storage should be in an original packed condition.

(6) Check the specifications indicated on the name plate and test certificate

attached to the pump and compare with your requirement specifications.

HE-11281

INSTALLATION AND WIRING

6-1. lnstallation

(1) The altitude of installation of the pump shall not exceed 1000 meters above

sea level.

(2) The ambient temperature of installation shall be within the limit of -15 -

+40'C.

(3) To sling a pump, wind a belt-sling on the motor frame properly.

At that time, make sure that the belt-sling is at the center of gravity of the

pump by just lifting off the ground or the bed, where the pump unit is placed.

(4) The lifting gear to be used must be strong enough to bear the weight of the

pump. As to the dimensions and weight of the pump is indicated in the

dimensional drawing of "Drawings for Confirmation".

(5) The sizes of the flanges and /or piping to be used shall be identical to the

indicated ones in the dimensional drawing.

(6) Completely remove any foreign matters from the piping and accessories'

(7) Make the length of piping of suction side as short as possible.

(8) Since the suction piping has a great influence on NPSHava, carefully study

the piping size, length and other attachments.

(9) To avoid cavitation, position the end of the suction pipe deep enough to be

immersed even when the liquid level is low.

1 1

HE-11281

(10) Provide a screen in the suction tank against dust.

(1 1) Make the radius of the pipe bends as large as possible, minimize the number

of bends, and avoid installing the bends close to the pump suction port.

(12) Eliminate any air-pocket from the piping.

(13) Welds of piping shall be examined by the liquid penetrant test to ensure no

leakage exists.

(14) Keep the pump free from undesirable forces such as weight of piping, thermal

stresses of pipeline, off-center between the pump and the piping, etc., which

should adversely affect the pump.

('15) Attach supports to the pump to fix

(16) Confirmation of rotating direction must be done prior to piping. Rotate the

impeller with a hand to make sure that the rotor assembly rotates smoothly.

6-2. Wiring

Connect the electric terminals per " Drawings for Confirmation'

(1) Use the electric cables which conform to EN60204-1 , table5,6. Since the

temperatures of stud bolt on terminal plate vary depending on the temperatures

of liquid to be used, for power supply cable, use a refractory cable withstanding

temperature of 100 'C or over.

(2) Use the conduits which conform to EN60204-1 .

(3) Following devices are recommended for protection of canned motor pump.

* Over cunent relay * Leak cunent check relay

We can supply special low current relay that is useful for protect pumps possible

to operate at no liquid conditions such as tank drain pump. Check wiring diagram

1 2

HE-11281

in . Drawing for Confirmation " for thermostat wiring.

The method of setting of overload relay is as follows;

Because the rated current at normal output in the canned motor is higher than

that in general motors, set at the rated cunent indicated on the name plate. lt is

effective as a protecting device for canned motors to set the overload relay at as

low current as possible. Generally, it is recommended to set the relay at the

following value.

Variation of voltage & load is small -- Operating current x 1 .1

Variation of voltage & load is big --- Operating cunent x 1.25

When operating current is far below of rated cunent, it is recommended to set

the relay based on operating current not rated cunent.

clul tot l

To protect the motor from damage caused by an open-phase operation, use the

open-phase relay.

Allowable locking time of motor : 10 sec.
