Education Week

Congratulations to the staff and students for a magnificent showcase of our talents during Education Week. Street Connect:

Save the date! We would like to invite students, parents and members of our community to an information evening in our hall at 5.30 pm on Wednesday 4 September. The information session will outline an opportunity for members of the community to participate in the design and

development of the Street Connect project. Street Connect will be a community-led initiative to design and develop local strategies to build community resilience and disaster preparedness. The project is supported by a number of local schools, council, community groups and The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal. More information to come soon.

Drinking Fountains:

I am delighted to announce that we have successfully lobbied our assets department for the installation of new drinking fountains on the bottom playground. Soon we will have four new bubblers, two bottle fillers and a new water filtration system.

Help Louise Lift off to Darwin!

Thoughts and Prayers

Our thoughts are with Mrs Foulds (Rosemary) who sadly lost her father on the morning of our athletics carnival. In true Rosemary style, she still found the will to deliver our first aid kits to McMahons Park to ensure our carnival ran smoothly. A truly selfless act! Thank you, Rosemary.

5/6E started Term 3 with a spring in their step. We are very busy preparing for our co ncert item, learning new dances and brushing up on our acting skills. We can’t wait to showcase our amazing talents! Last week were lucky enough to have the very talented Taryn Malzard visit our classroom and give us a master class in self-portraits. 5/6E had a wonderful morning sketching and drawing themselves. We had a look at details such as face shape, skin tone and eye shape. Our self-portraits look amazing and we are excited to show them off on Open Day. As we move into Education Week we are reflecting on all the different depositions we use on a daily basis. 5/6E decided that being ‘flexible’ in their learning allowed them to understand how important it is to listen to one another and learn from each other. 5/6E are looking forward to another busy term ahead!

Maisie finished in 12th place at the State Cross Country last

week. Well done Maisie on a tremendous effort. Year 6 are currently planning a crazy sock day fundraiser for

their farewell. Stay tuned!

PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE Last week, we held our annual in-school Premier’s Spelling Bee for Stages 2 and 3. Our students put in their best effort to spell words from the Premier’s Spelling Bee lists in front of a very enthusiastic audience of students and teachers. They skilfully overcame nerves to spell familiar and unfamiliar words of increasing difficulty in front of their peers. We’re so proud of all our students who participated in the Spelling Bee this year. We would like to announce the 2019 Grose View Public School Senior winner, Elroy Clifton. Senior second place was achieved by Angus Denne. Our Junior winner was Benjamin Morgan. Junior second place was awarded to Toby Clifton. Well done boys! You are off to the Regional Spelling Bee at Werrington County Public School on Monday 9 September. We wish you all the best in representing our school.

MARKETPLACE PERFORMANCES The talent and skill of our GVPS dancers and choir were on full display at Richmond Marketplace as they performed for family and friends to celebrate Education Week. Well done to the students and teachers for their hard work and dedication.

ART WORKSHOPS Stage 2 and Stage 3 students were very fortunate to participate in an art workshop with local artist, Taryn Malzard. Students produced portraits of themselves using oil pastels on A3 art paper. The portraits will be on display during our open day. Students and teachers were very grateful for the opportunity to extend their artistic knowledge and skill. Thank you Taryn!

K-4 EXCURSION If you have volunteered as a parent helper for the upcoming excursion to the Powerhouse Museum please contact the office to ensure your paperwork is up to date. You will not be able to attend the excursion without this documentation. All volunteers are required to complete declarations and provide 100 points of identification to the office. Please note schools are not authorised to verify WWCCs issued through Service NSW and, therefore, cannot accept the documentation. Once our paperwork is complete it is current for seven years. CONGRATULATIONS! We are very happy to share with our Grose View PS community that Ashleigh B and her older sisters, Grace and Olivia, will feature on the Channel 9 TV show This Time Next Year Australia. Their segment will air on Monday 9 September. The girls have worked incredibly hard over the past year and are very excited in the lead up to their reveal on national television. Make sure you keep an eye out for their promo ads and save the date on your calendar! Well done Ashleigh, Grace and Olivia. What an achievement!

Notes & Newsletters Each time a note is sent home with every student, youngest/only students and selected students a copy is uploaded to our website under “School Notes”. If a note has gone astray between school and home, please click on the link and print a copy at home. Our School Bytes application is proving to be a great tool in ensuring that fewer children miss out on opportunities to join in school events. It allows us to email reminders about outstanding permission notes and/or payments. The emails are personally addressed by the application, however, if you have already returned the note and/or payment you may ignore the reminder. For this reason, it is more important than ever to keep your email address up to date with the office. Each time a newsletter is published a copy will be uploaded to our website under “NEWSLETTERS”. Simply click on the link to read and/or print a copy at home.
