HEAD LICE:
There have been reported cases of live headlice in the school. We ask parents to check your child’s hair to determine if further treatment is required. Your support in
this matter is greatly appreciated. We anticipate having a headlice inspection completed at some point next week.
MATES MENTORING:
There will be a launch of the MATES Mentoring Program on Wednesday 13th July. This will involve Mentees and Mentors meeting for the first time, sharing some food and organising their first visit. Once again, I would like to thank the many people in the community who have volunteered to support our students. I would also like to thank Sue Kuhnell and Joy Forbes for their work in assisting with rolling out the
program.
STUDENT/PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS:
School Council are supportive of having a student free day to allow for teachers, students and parents to meet together and review student learning and set goals and
strategies for the future. This will be held on Monday 15th August. The individual learning plan will have the current levels of student performance. This is proposed in
order to improve parent attendance rates, improve dialogue between teacher, student and parents, and to ensure that Individual Learning Plans are developed for
all students ultimately to have a positive impact on student learning.
In order to best cater to the needs of parents we would like an indication of what would be your preferred option for times.
Option 1: 8:30 – 5:30 Option 2: 11:00 – 7:00
Please use the reply slip attached to this newsletter indicating your personal
preference.

REPORTS GO HOME TOMORROW:
Staff have been working feverishly to produce reports on your child’s progress in learning. I thank them for their work in drafting, proof-reading, proof-reading, proof-reading and then printing. In particular I would like to recognise the great work of
Mrs Sharon Galloway of co-ordinating the process and ensuring that the Accelerus Software Program is working correctly. Reports will be sent home on Friday at the
end of the day. We will follow this with the student/parent/teacher interviews on Monday 15th August.
5/6W ASSEMBLY ITEM:
This week 5/6W entertained us with their play based around the First Fleet. For some unsuspecting teachers, we were put through the shame of appearing in front of the judge and jury in England. Unfortunately many of the teachers were found
guilty of committing crimes including stealing chocolate, chocolate cake and giraffes named Greg. The teachers were dealt with harshly and sentences to many
years of hard labour in Australia. Surprisingly the only teacher found innocent of any crimes was Miss Whyte! It is good to know that we have at least one honest
staff member at Dimboola Primary School.
Thanks to the students and Miss Whyte for a most entertaining play.
I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable holiday period and look forward to the return of students and staff on Monday 11th July.

This term, 3/4L students have been working on their writing, thinking about the senses
when they are writing the problem in a narrative. This is called “Tightening Tension”
as a part of the Seven Steps to Writing Success program. They thought about what they would see, hear, taste, touch and smell
if there were a volcano erupting. Here are some examples of writing that
students put together, using their senses, to start writing about a volcano:
As I was running from the volcano, I could feel the boiling hot air coming from the lava, burning my back. I could taste the smoky air blowing into my mouth. The ground was shaking as I ran from the lava and all the tumbling rocks chasing after me. I could hear the volcano shaking and it made these
weird sounds as it was shaking. Rocks were flying out of the volcano blocking my path. Dirt was flying in my mouth and in my face when the rocks hit the shaking ground. I
could smell smoking gas all around me when I was running to the boat. - Alyssa
As I was running from the volcano, I could feel rocks hit me after they came tumbling down from the volcano. I could hear people screaming and the crackling of the fire. I could see rocks flying out everywhere. I could smell smoke and some sort of gas. I
could taste smoke and dirt from all of the rocks that were flying at us. It was terrifying because the ground was rumbling and all over it was cracking.
-Jas
As I ran from the volcano, I felt the ground shaking. I heard the screaming of others and smelt smoke as it went zooming up my nose. I tasted smoke as I breathed in and out. I saw lava and bits of rock everywhere. As the rocks came down, I heard a bug
thump sound. When I got to safety, I was relieved but still scared. -Marrie
