Next Meeting January 4 at King’s Restaurant, Harmarville
On Old Route 28, just north of Route 910
Time is running out. Dues paid after December 31 are $25. Get
your renewal to Mary by December 31 and the cost is $20.
Greetings Pony Lovers –
First, I’d like to wish everyone a joyous Holiday
season and a very happy and productive New Year.
I was glad to see so many of you at the Holiday
Party on Dec. 11th
. Kudos to Jason & Jacquie
Uhler, who planned and hosted a great event.
Second, I’d like to thank all the members who
offered their vote of confidence by giving me the
opportunity to be your President for another year. I
hope I can continue to live up to all your
expectations.
Third, I want to thank all our officers and event
organizers who served this past year. I feel in many
ways that 2011 was a banner year for the Club. We
pulled off some major accomplishments as part of
our 25th
Anniversary. I want to again offer a very
special Thank You to everyone who pitched in to
help out with Can-Am. We never could have done
it without everyone’s help.
Next, I want to thank all those members who agreed
to run for office for the upcoming year. Without
your leadership the Club would cease to function. I
know that 2012 is going to be one of our best ever.
And last but certainly not least, I want to thank my
wife, Jennie, for her years of outstanding service as
our Newsletter Editor. She brought the newsletter
from near extinction to something we can all be
proud of. Her service has definitely made my work
as President easier and more enjoyable.
Our next event is the third annual Indoor
Invitational Mini-Golf Tournament at Pittsburgh
Mills Mall in late January. This has become one of
our more enjoyable events. The turnout has always
been great, and it’s a lot of fun for the whole family.
So come on out and enjoy some pizza and black-
light miniature golf with your fellow members.
You can find more details elsewhere in this
newsletter or on our website/Facebook page.
On a sad note, I want to express my deepest
sympathy to the Cavataio family on Tom’s passing.
Tom has been a GPMC member for nearly 25 years
and the Club’s TRCCC Representative for as long
as anyone can remember. Tom will live on in our
hearts and memories for years to come.
Our next meeting will be held on January 4th
at
King’s in Harmarville, so I hope you’ll all be able
to attend. We had a big turnout in December for
elections, so I hope we can continue that tradition
into the New Year.
Keep those motors runnin’,
Ken

The club suffered a big loss last week with the passing of Tom Cavataio. Tom was a dear friend to many of us, especially the “older” or should I say longer-term members like myself, and was a valuable asset to the club throughout the years. I realize many of the newer members
never had the privilege of getting to know Tom or at least not that well, which is unfortunate because I can honestly say he was one of the most sincere people I’ve ever met. He was always willing to help anyone with car issues and was always a smiling face at meetings and club events. I joined the club around 1988 before I even had a driver’s li-cense and Tom was already a member of the club at that time. He was quite the young fellow back then too! I dis-tinctly remember Tom being very welcoming to me as a new member, which helped me to feel at home. Only a hand-ful of us current members have been around as long as Tom and I couldn’t be happier to have known him for the bet-ter part of 25 years. Since Tom had been pretty sick over the last few years during a courageous battle with Crohn’s disease and then cancer, he hadn’t been able to attend many events, which I’m sure bothered him a great deal. Prior to that however, you could always count on Tom being at every meeting, just about every event, and helping out in any capacity necessary. Most recently, Tom was our long-standing T.R.C.C.C. representative, which involved going to additional meetings on our behalf. Before I was Treasurer, Tom held the position for countless years. In fact, while discarding some very old documents this week, I came across his name numerous times and recounted the great memories – it was a great journey to the past. This year’s charity for the All Ford show was the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to which we gave a generous donation in Tom’s name in order to send a child suffering the same illness to a camp where Tom helped the kids. Tom was at the show in support and I know was very appreciative of everyone’s hard work. If ever in doubt about the good that our donations do for people, this should bring everything into fo-cus. You should all be proud of that donation as it was a very fitting way for the club to give back to Tom for every-thing he has done for us. When passing along the unfortunate news to many prior members of the club, like me it really touched them all deeply. The recurring theme that I heard was that “he was one of the nicest guys you’d ever know”. Even though I could add a lot more to that, I think that was Tom’s greatest asset. If no one in the World can speak anything negative about you, I think you’ve accomplished a lot during your life and Tom sure did. I can only hope that people think nearly the same about me someday as they do for him. It was a very sad week for me, but I know Tom is looking down on his favorite car club from Heaven and will continue to bless us all for a long time to come. I’ll miss you a lot buddy – thanks for the memories! Jason
