MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY– JUNE 7, 2020

A MESSAGE FROM FR. TIM

2

Last Sunday, we celebrated the birthday of the Church. If it had not been for Spirit of God

coming upon those in the upper room, emboldening them, the message of Jesus Christ would

have died in that room. As I was praying about this feast; another way to look at the feast of

Pentecost is to recognize and celebrate our own giftedness and to put the gifts into action. For

example, in this time of uncertainty and tragedy look at all the good that is being done.

When we were confirmed the bishop prayed over us in these words or ones similar to them.

The bishop, with hands extended prayed: “All powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them new

life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their Helper and Guide. Give them the spirit of

wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge

and reverence. Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence.”

For me as the years have passed I have come to recognize and to depend more and more on

the Spirit of God to enable me to discern what is right and to do what I am called to do. Like

so many of us when we were confirmed we received the gifts of the Spirit but we really did

not understand what that meant and we tucked them away some place. As I have come to ap-

preciate the daily presence of God in my life I have come to depend more and more on these

gifts and to recognize what keeps me from using them. Many years ago now I was faced with

making a decision of doing what I really believed to be right or to give into the fear of what

might happen to me because of my position. It was truly the power of the Spirit that enabled

me to do it.

As we live life we all look for joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity faithfulness, gentleness,

self-control. We have the means to achieve them, the Spirit of God. How do we know when

we are working with the Spirit? When the end results of our actions are the Fruits of the Spirit.

When the results are chaos, division, factions etc we are not working with the Spirit.

Today as we celebrate Pentecost let us look to our giftedness and pray for the courage to use

these gifts, receive what they offer. Recall that in the resurrection Jesus proclaimed that good

rises above evil.. Imagine what we could accomplish if we worked with the Spirit.

Fr. Tim

Perpetual Candle Dedication by Women’s Guild

Fr. Tim's perpetual candle with his plaque finally got placed in the candle stand! Because of this virus, we could not have a gathering to present it to him.

Too much time has gone by and we have no idea when we would get to do this. I felt as though, at this time, the candle should be lit so that prayers would be ded-icated to him.

Fr. Tim chose the candle he wanted and I have included a picture of him as he lit it.

Stay safe and as always love and peace,

Kathie Lanney

From the desk of Fr. Tim The Archdiocese of Boston has provided guidelines as we slowly re-open our churches. We ask that everyone follow these guidelines strictly and be patient as we begin to move for-ward. 1. Cardinal Sean has dispensed everyone, of our Sunday obligation indefinitely. With this in mind, all people who are 65 and older or who have existing health concerns are asked to stay home and not attend Mass in person until further notice. We will continue to live -stream the Mass from St Margaret each Sunday at 9:00am. Please note change of time. 2. We will resume Sunday Masses on a limited basis beginning on the weekend of May 30/31 at Blessed Sacrament Parish only. There will be a 4pm Mass on Saturday, and 11am Mass on Sunday. There will be no hospitality until further notice. Church doors will be open 30 minutes before the scheduled time for Mass. You are asked to come early as the check in, seat-ing process will take time. To insure that the guidelines are adhered to the doors will locked when Mass begins and no one will be admitted after that. 3. Participants at the Masses will be severely limited due to the need to maintain social dis-tancing. Families and those who live together may occupy one bench or row. Single individu-als will be distanced from each other by 6 feet. When the churches are “full” based on these seating restrictions, parishioners will not be able to enter the Church. All attendees are re-quired to call the Collaborative office (781) 233 2497 to put your name and the number of those in your household who will be accompanying you, on the list for the Mass you would like to attend. Reservations can be made by calling the office only on Wednesday and Thurs-day morning from 9-12 4. The doors of the church on Summer Street will be locked. You are asked to enter the build-ing by the side doors. Upon entering the church you will be greeted by an usher who will check your name and the number you said would be accompanying you off the list. Another usher will lead you to your assigned seat(s) You are required to wear a mask. 5. Missalettes have been removed and there will be no congregational singing, nor will choirs be allowed until further notice. In weeks ahead, there will be one lector and one Eucharistic Minister when necessary. Mass will not begin with a procession nor will there be an offertory procession. The kneelers in th e church have been fastened in an upright position to prevent people from using them. Participants in the Mass will either sit or stand at the kneeling times in the Mass. Baskets will be placed at the doors for the offertory collection. We encourage on-line giving and mail-ins. There will be no sign of peace or the holding of hands during the Our Father. 6. All parishioners over the age of 5 are required to wear a mask during Mass. At Communion time there will be an usher to help with this process, parishioners will come to communion maintaining the 6 feet distance markers on the floor. Everyone should leave their seat or bench, even if you do not plan to receive Communion, in order to avoid people having to step over one another. Please fully extend your arm with hands cupped as the priest/Eucharistic Minister drops the host into your hand. Please step to the side, where the floor is marked, re-move your mask and place the host in your mouth before returning to your seat. No commun-ion on the tongue is permitted. 7. At the end of Mass, please leave the church immediately by the side doors but do so, row by row, maintaining the 6-foot distance requirement. Please leave in an orderly fashion and please go directly to your car – there is no gathering allowed. 8.. Only priests and deacons are allowed in the sacristy. 9.. Saturday 3:15pm Confessions have been suspended. 10. Parishioners are invited and encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer to Mass. We will also have hand sanitizer available throughout the church. 11. Realize this is new for everyone. There was a lot of thought and discussion how to best implement these guidelines. We will learn from our first weekend’s experience and adjust these guidelines as needed for the future. Your patience and co-operation is appreciated

Some Straight Talk about Our Finances First, let us say how grateful we are to everyone who has been so generous in supporting your parishes during this crisis. You are truly amazing, and we cannot express how inspired we are by your support. So we want to let you know that we are trying harder than ever to make every dollar of your money count! Here is what we have done of the steps we have taken in the last few weeks:

-We have taken a line of credit from the Archdiocese of Boston to make sure we don't empty our bank ac-counts.

Without weekend liturgies, we have no collection monies coming in. We are still responsible to pay the reduced salaries and benefits for our employees, plus heating and electricity costs, telephones, water bills, and routine maintenance of our buildings and grounds. These bills are substantial.

Please continue to support your parishes by mailing your Offertory and Monthly Collection envelopes to the Collaborative Office, or come by yourselves and drop them off. If you would find it more convenient to donate online, go to our website at www.sauguscatholics.org and you will find a link for Online Giving. Click there and follow the prompts to contribute to your own parish. Or you can pay through your own bank by setting up ei-ther Blessed Sacrament or St. Margaret's as a payee.

However you choose to do it, we appreciate your continuing support. Stay safe, and we all look forward to when we can meet again as a community of faith!

Collaborative Members Only– We are here for you!

Both St. Margaret and Blessed Sacrament, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, whose church members are in need of food, at this time, should contact them at 781-233-2497 with your name, address, telephone number and the number of members in your household.

Don’t Forget the Food Pantry Since our church is closed and you no longer have access to leave your food donations; please consider giving food or a donation to; The Saugus United Food Pantry 50 Essex Street Saugus, Ma. 01906.

WEEKEND MASS INTENTIONS FOR BOTH CHURCHS

Due to the Covid-19 and policy of social distancing We are limited to how many people attend a Mass.

To facilitate this please register Wed. Thurs & Fri. by calling 781-232-2497 from 9AM-12PM.

You are asked to keep your party at 4 or less.

Our parishioners are incredibly generous. But then, you already knew that. We hear, over and over again, about parishes and Collaboratives whose revenues have dropped 40%

during the current situation. Here in Saugus, our parishioners have continued to support their respective parishes. Revenues since late March are close to 90% of normal. This is extraor-dinary, and especially so since we know many of you are facing personal financial hard-ships. You have demonstrated once again how important your faith community is to you.

However, those revenues have included a couple of unusual one-time fundraising events that won't be repeated for a while. Before any of this happened, we had already planned a calendar raffle, which was very successful and most opportunely timed. Also, the Archdio-cese allowed the parishes to keep the Easter Collection, which is usually set aside for the

Clergy Retirement Fund. Going forward, we won't have those funds to help offset the lack of Offertory donations. But there is a program we are asking you to consider.

The Archdiocese has created a fundraising vehicle to help the parishes. Beginning this weekend, May 30/31, as we start to re-open, you can sign up for our own "90 Days Now" campaign. It's a simple, one-time online sign up. Click link below and you will be taken to a website where you select the parish that your contribution will go to. Follow the prompts and you will decide how much to give per day for 90 days. You can give as little or as much as you wish. Or you can make a one-time donation. Enter your credit or debit card number,

and the amount will be automatically charged to your account. You will get an acknowledgement when you pledge, and it will tell you whether you have pledged for one

time, or each day for ninety days.

This is a 90 day program, that will end for you 90 days after your first contribution. It is designed to help you give, even if you are not venturing out these days. Because you are giving electronically, you don't need to go to the Post Office or the office here to donate.

And 100% of your contribution goes to your own parish.

If you think that this may work for you, please go to our webpage and click the link there to go to 90 Days Now for Your Parish.

As always, we thank you for whatever you can give.
