Stream 3 EquineAbnormal locomotion in the horse
The 2011 UVH Conference Equine stream focuses on locomotion and starts with an overview of normal and abnormal locomotion followed by a how to session on the neurolog-ical exam and lameness exam of the horse respectively. The morning ses-sion ends with an overview of recent literature with clinical implications for
the practicing veterinarian and after the lunch break the panel will present clinical cases of abnormal locomotion in which audience participation is stimulated by a voting system and a panel of experts

Stream 5 Veterinarians and SocietyEverything but the clinic- Veterinarians and Government, Public Health and Business
So you thought the UVH conference was just for clinicians? Think again. With a significant propor-tion of the profession fulfilling vital roles in government service,
public health and private industry, it is more than time we got around to organizing this stream. The keynote speaker is well-known both within and outside the profession, and topics will relate to veterinarians with roles in local, national and international governmental bodies and agencies. Of interest to both practitioners and others will be a session on Marketing – Getting the Message Across on your practice, your service, your profession.
Stream 4 Veterinary NursingEducation in Context
The veterinary nursing profes-sion is young and rapidly de-veloping. In parallel, a pletho-ra of education possibilities for veterinary nurses are opening up. There are multiple mod-els of pre-registration educa-tion, and in the coming years the need for varied forms of
post-registration education, including advanced clini-cal skills, management, and others. This session will bring together students and educators involved in vari-ous forms of vet nursing education - part-time, full time etc. as well as a forum to discuss needs and prospects for advanced nursing education, graduate certificates, diplomas and masters degrees, along with continuing education needs.
Stream 1 Small Animal MedicineThe liver and pancreas – evolving problems
Liver and pancreatic dis-ease is becoming increas-ingly important in both dogs and cats. Increased aware-ness and the development of novel diagnostic tests mean that such disorders
are more frequently considered and diagnosed in small animal practice. Often considered to carry a poor prog-nosis, targeted therapy can be associated with long-term success. This session will open with a description of hu-man hepatic disease and will move through different pan-creatic and hepatic disorders of dogs and cats providing relevant information on diagnosis and treatment.
Stream 2 Farm Animal Herd Health & Individual Medicine
The Farm Animal stream will cover a variety of topics on individual medicine and herd health. The herd health focused presentations will provide the most current,
evidence-based advice on some of the health issues prioritized by Animal Health Ireland (e.g. calf health, parasite control, infectious diseases)
