Our latin America report is a monthly publication that contains macroeconomic projections from over 200 different sources along with the Consensus Forecast with minimum and maximum forecasts for benchmarking and scenario building. Each month we poll the research departments of investment banks, financial institutions and research organizations to obtain their views on the future. The report covers the most important economic indicators for a 5-year forecast period. Complemented with concise analysis and numerous charts, it provides the most comprehensive assessment of the economies in latin America available in the market. Latin America’s economic performance in 2014 is going to be the worst since 2009. Weak economic dynamics in Argentina, Brazil and Chile have outweighed a recovery in Mexico and Colombia. FocusEconomics panelists have consistently cut the region’s forecast for a year and a half, and now expect regional GDP growth of 1.2%. Monetary policy and exchange rate flexibility in many Latin American countries should serve as shield against adverse global shocks. Nonetheless, prospects of an interest rate hike in the U.S. as early as Q2 2015 have put pressure on currencies in the region since September. Analysts’ attention is now shifting toward how U.S. monetary policy will affect emerging markets, specifically their currencies. – RICARDO ACEVES, SENIOR ECONOMIST LATIN AMERICA FORECASTS GDP 2014 1.2% 2015 2.4% INFLATION 2014 12.5% = 2015 11.1% MEXICO FORECASTS GDP 2014 2.5% = 2015 3.7% = INFLATION 2014 3.8% = 2015 3.4% = BRAZIL FORECASTS GDP 2014 0.3% 2015 1.3% = INFLATION 2014 6.3% = 2015 6.3% = ARGENTINA FORECASTS GDP 2014 -1.1% = 2015 -0.2% INFLATION 2014 27.3% 2015 26.5% Download the full report for free and get a 3-month trial: WWW.FOCUS-ECONOMICS.COM/LATAM2014 Contact us for more information: [email protected]
