Dear Washington families, For the second year in a row, we have dropped the fall giftwrap sale; instead, we are asking for a direct donation to the PTA. Bullying. We have all heard about it. Yet can we always recognize the signs of bullying in a child? Do you know how to talk with your child if they should experience bullying?

If your child has special needs, can she tell the difference in bullying and appropriate behavior?

Join us as we discuss the signs and forms of bullying, including preschool-aged children. Learn who is involved, how to respond to support children, and how to teach your child about bullying.

We will address unique concerns for children with special needs and share strategies for building peer support. Many useful resources will be shared.

What is Professional Development

Assistance?

Professional Development Assistance provides Early Childhood Special Education professionals the opportunity to be reimbursed for the expense of attending workshops, seminars or conferences related to their field. It operates only on a pre-approval basis. The maximum amount available is $75.00 per person, per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

You can apply for Professional Development Assistance if:

You are an Early Childhood Special Education professional working with children 3-5 years old.

You work in North or West Suburban Cook, DuPage, McHenry, Kane, or Lake Counties.

Your employer can not cover the costs associated with attending workshops, seminars, or conferences.

Family Fellowship / Professional Development Assistance can reimburse you for:

Registration, Travel, Lodging, Childcare, Meals (up to $28/day with receipt) and other Related costs

What is a Family Fellowship?

Family Fellowships provide parents and caretakers of children with disabilities the opportunity to be reimbursed for the expense of attending workshops, seminars, conferences or other trainings that will benefit their family. It operates only on a pre-approval basis. The maximum amount available is $200.00 per family, per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).

You can apply for a Family Fellowship if:

You are the parent or caretaker of a young child with special needs

Your child is under 6 years of age and has an IEP or IFSP

You reside in Northern or Western Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, or McHenry counties.

How can I apply?

Submit your completed application form to the STAR NET Region II office at least 1 week before the event. Preference for acceptance will be given to events in Illinois. Applicants will receive a confirmation or denial of their application by email, or by mail if preferred.
