QUESTION 3 WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE

FEEDBACK? By Sophie Canning

PRE- PRODUCTION FEEDBACK- PITCH One of my first tasks was to design a movie pitch. The pitch included the plot, character profiles, props and location. Once we had completed the presentation, each media student would present their movie pitch to the rest of the media class. This would allow us to gain valuable feedback before we even began filming. The feedback I received included ideas about the plot, which I took on bard. One of the suggestions was that both sisters were in the woods and were kidnapped. I considered changing my plotline but I felt that instead of changing the story I could add in the drowning scene and expand further on the game of hide and seek. My peers gave me great suggestions as to what camera shots and angles I should use such as, panning at the beginning of the film and using the ‘ken burns’ effect on the tense scenes that required an effective shot to emphasise the horror.

PRE AND POST PRODUCTION FEEDBACK- SURVEY MONKEY Survey monkeys is a free online website that allows you to create surveys and convert the results into charts and graphs for easy analysis. I have created many surveys using this website. An example of when I used survey monkey in my planning and research would be my trailer target audience survey. The 11 question survey included questions such as gender, age, interests, favourite genre, what do you expect to see in a new release etc.. The results of this audience feedback allowed my to establish a target audience through using the audience demographic model, and therefore use appropriate conventions to suit this particular market. I also gained knowledge of what the audiences will be expecting in terms of characters or props. I also used survey monkey to collect audience feedback on my finished products, this feedback gave me compliments on what looked good and critique on what I could change for improvement in the future.

POST- PRODUCTION FEEDBACK- VIDEO RESPONSES My favourite way of collecting audience feedback is through video responses, as I can specifically choose from my audience and have a face to face opinion on what I could improvement. On my trailer and magazine feedback which was in the format of a video, I learned that the sound track to my trailer fitted the video as it sounded earie and scary. However one of my audience members fed back to me that for improvement I could have made my trailer more clear as to where and how my antagonist received her bite to make her evil. I took this on-board, however when I went to film another scene with Edith being bitten there were some problems. This was a while after so the snow had disappeared, thus we could not do the scene outside, also we did not have access to the haunted house that appears in the trailer. I tried to film Edith (THE PROTAGONIST) being bitten in several locations, but of course I did not have a scary location. With short notice I was also unable to find a suitable actor to play the role of the biting demon. Although I did have footage of this potential scene I felt it looked miss-matched in my trailer, and left it out.

POST- PRODUCTION FEEDBACK- FACEBOOK

For feedback on my first poster and magazine drafts, I decided to send screenshots of my products to several people in a group message on Facebook. As you can see here one of my respondents suggested that the left hand picture (fake wounds first draft) looked good but perhaps I could neaten up my techniques. I took this feedback on board and went for the initial idea but researched techniques to use on Photoshop to create effective wounds.

POST- PRODUCTION FEEDBACK- IMESSAGE I use IMessage a lot in my everyday life to connect with people. I thought that this would be a good chance to gain further feedback on my poster, where I learned that I had a good colour scheme, but needed to work on my Photoshop skills to make the image look scary and professional, and also advice regarding the layout of my poster, in terms of the tag line positioning.
