Question 3. What kind of institution might distribute your media product and why?

An institution is a company or organisation that is in charge of selling and distributing specific types of media text or media.

I feel that Bauer media group will be the most suitable magazine publishing company that should distribute my rock magazine. The main reason for this is because they also distribute magazines such as Kerrang, Q and Mojo which follow a similar style and layout to my magazine. In addition, like my magazine ‘Rampage’, they also specialise in the same genre of rock and both magazines are well-known and popular among teens and young adults. For example, by having Bauer as its sole distributor, Kerrang has total circulation figure of 42,077. Moreover, Mojo has a circulation figure of 94,617. Therefore, I believe that choosing Bauer media group instead of other institutions will be benefit my magazine the most as it has clearly been extremely successful in

Selling a substantially large amount of copies for each magazine. Also, having distributed existing magazines that are similar to my magazine, I feel that they more of understanding of my genre and will be able to think of other unique methods to distribute my magazine and differentiate it from Mojo and Kerrang so all three magazines can compete with each other.

Furthermore, over the years Bauer media group has proven to be a largely successful magazine distributing company. For example, worldwide circulation of Bauer Media Group's magazine titles adds up to a substantial amount of 38 million magazines a week. In addition, Bauer Media is multimedia platform UK based media group that consists of many sub-brands and companies mainly around two groups- magazines and Radio.

However this could also come as a disadvantage. If I was to pick an independent publishing company, I would have had more control over what will happen when the first issue of my magazine is published. On the other hand, I will have as much control as I possibly can. After all, Bauer media will give me much needed publicity and be a major platform magazine.
