Port Surges AheadParadip Port Trust, in the current financial year up to 28th February,
2017 handled 80.61 million tonnes as compared to 68.77 million
tonnes of Cargo handled during the corresponding period of the
previous year. This is an increase of 17.22% over the traffic handled
during corresponding period of previous year.
Paradip Port Trust has handled 7.71 million tonnes of Cargo during
the month of February 2017 as compared to 7.09 million tonnes of
Cargo handled during the corresponding period of the previous year
with a growth of 8.69%.
In the current financial year up to February 2017, Coking Coal traffic
has exhibited a growth of 19.36%. Similarly POL Traffic has
increased by 34.16%, Iron ore 615.50%, and other Cargo traffic
grew by 65.91% compared to the same period of previous year.
Paradip Port has retained the second highest position in terms of
Cargo handled amongst all the major ports till the end of February
2017.
The average Berth-day output up to the month improved by 13.49%
over the corresponding period of previous year. The Port achieved
an output per ship berth day of 25,847 MMT / Day in February 2017
as compared to 25,769 MMT / Day, thereby registering an
improvement of 0.30%.
The Port also handled 133 vessels in February 2017 as compared to
122 vessels in February 2016.
Paradip Port Trust handled 46.54 million tonnes rail borne traffic up
to the end of February, 2017 as compared to 43.88 million tonnes
handled during the corresponding period of the previous year with a
growth of 6.07%.

Paradip Township woke up to a very peaceful day on February 8th. For
a change, there was very less traffic, less pollution and less noise on the
roads. Walking and Cycle riding by PPT officials and employees were
seen on the roads. Shri Rinkesh Roy, Chairman, PPT led from the front
by walking to the office all the way from his quarters as PPT observed -
"No Vehicle Day". The basic objective is to create awareness among
the public and also reduce the traffic congestion and enable PPT
officers and employees to play active role in controlling the global
warming. Not only
PPT officials and
employees, but
also the Port Users
gave up their two
and four-wheelers
a miss for the day
and opted for walk / bicycles. Officials & staff of M/s. Chennai Radha organised a rally to
emphasize the importance of reduction of use of motor vehicles on the road to reduce
pollution.
All denizens have lauded the efforts undertaken by PPT and some of them even
voluntarily supported the drive and participated by using bicycles.

Mumbai Port Trust hosted the All India Major Ports Football Colony, Chembur, Mumbai. Paradip Port Trust emerged Runners
Tournament, 2016-17. The tournament was played between 7th Up. In a gruelling final match, it got defeated by a margin of 0-2 goals
February to 11th February 2017 at the RCF Football Ground, RCF from Cochin Port Trust.

The All India Major Ports Hockey Championship was held in
the SAI Complex, Kolkata. In total, six Major Ports including
the host team viz. Kolkata Port Trust, Vizag Port Trust,
Paradip Port Trust, Tuticorin Port Trust, Chennai Port Trust
and Mumbai Port Trust participated in the prestigious
Football fete. Paradip Port Trust emerged Second Runners Up
by blanking Chennai Port Trust by a margin of 6-0 goals.
The 33rd Annual Flower Show was organized by E&CM Division of
Paradip Port Trust at Officer's Club on 03.02.2017. Shri Rinkesh
Roy, Chairman, PPT inaugurated the Flower Show in the morning.
More than 200 participants exhibited spectacular collections of
flowers, vegetables and plants in different categories such as 10
types of flowers, classified ornamental plants in cut and pot
arrangements, bonsai, vegetables. The myriad hues and scent of
flowers at this flower show was mesmerizing. In a glittering function
held in the evening Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Dy. Chairman, PPT awarded
prizes to the winners in different categories.

The Electrical & Mechanical Dept. of Paradip Port Trust, in
association with the Paradip Municipality and Paradip Sakshyrata
Samity on 04.02.2017 undertook a cleaning programme at
Mundapada, Loknath Colony in the periphery of Paradip, under
Swachh Bharat Campaign. Under the guidance of Chief Mechanical
Engineer, Shri A. Jayasimha. The Officials and Employees of the
Electrical & Mechanical Dept. of PPT, Officials of Paradip
Municipality and the lady volunteers of the Paradip Sakshyrata
Samity, cleaned the slum road and drainages, removed the roadside
garbage, sprinkled water on the approach road using Mist Canon,
spread bleaching powder for disinfecting the entire slum area.
Similarly Engineering Dept. of Paradip Port Trust, in association with
the Paradip Municipality and Paradip Sakshyrata Samity took up a
cleaning drive at Railway Colony, Atharabanki, under Swachh
Bharat Campaign on 18.02.2017. Under the guidance of Chief garbage, spread bleaching powder for disinfecting the entire slum Engineer, Shri K. Ramchandra Rao, the message - "Our Cleanliness is area. the beauty of Mother India" was spread out. The Officials and
Employees of the Engineering Dept. of PPT, Officials of Paradip PPT has made a year-long schedule to undertake cleanliness in and Municipality and the lady volunteers of the Paradip Sakshyrata around Paradip area on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month, Samity, cleaned the slum road and drainages, removed the roadside by each Department.

PPT distributes blankets among the destitute of the locality
Empathising with the plight of the roadside destitute, PPT distributed
blankets in the locality on 17.02.2017. The poor and especially the
older people were suffering due to come back cold in the month as
with no roof on their heads, they are to sleep in the open. Smt.
Subhalxmi Roy, President, Paradip Ladies Club along with top notch
officials of PPT spearheaded the distribution of the blankets among
the needy.
A three day’s training programme on "Disaster Management" was
conducted from February 2 - 4, 2017 by IMU, Kolkata, in which 17
participants participated.
