I N THE GLORIOUS Qur'aan, Allaah informed us that He is

pleased with righteous words anddeeds. If you disbelieve, then verily,

Allaah is not in need of you; He likesnot disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers),He is pleased therewith for you.

Accordingly, showing gratitude for Allaah's bounties, devoting our worship to Allaah, and keeping away from major and minor shirk (associating others with Allaah in Hisdivinity or worship) are all reasonsfor earning Allaah's pleasure, as

Allaah says: And if you are grateful(by being believers), He is

pleased therewith for you.

Moreover, Allaah is pleased if we aregrateful and devoted to Him and

perform acts of worship in the bestmanner as made obligatory by Him.He says: You (O Muhammad )

will not find any people who believein Allaah and the Last Day, makingfriendship with those who oppose

Allaah and His Messenger eventhough they were their fathers ortheir sons or their brothers or theirkindred (people). For such He has

written Faith in their hearts, andstrengthened them with Rooh(proofs, light and true guidance)from Himself. And He will admitthem to Gardens (Paradise) under

which rivers flow to dwell therein(forever). Allaah is pleased withthem, and they with Him. They arethe Party of Allaah. Verily, it is theParty of Allaah that will be thesuccessful. According to this ayah

(Qur'aanic verse), Allaah informs usthat He is pleased with those who givepriority to the love of Allaah over thelove of anyone else including parents, sons, brothers, family, and property.

Moreover, Allaah says: Say (OMuhammad to mankind): "If

you (really) love Allaah then follow m e ( i . e . a c c e p t I s l a a m i cMonotheism, follow the Qur’aanand the Sunnah), Allaah will love

you and forgive you your sins. Accordingly, Allaah informs us thatfollowing the way of Muhammad isa means of earning Allaah's Pleasure.Furthermore, He says: O you whobelieve! Whoever from among youturns back from his religion(Islaam), Allaah will bring a people

whom He will love and they willlove Him; humble towards thebelievers, stern towards thedisbelievers, fighting in the Way of

Allaah, and never fear of the blameof the blamers.

Thus, characteristics of those loved by Allaah include being humble towardsthe believers, stern towards thedisbelievers, fighting in the Way of

Allaah, and never fearing the blame ofthe blamers. Therefore, people as suchare rightfully described as loving

Allaah and being loved by Him. Inother words, Allaah's good pleasureand love are earned by obeying Allaahthrough doing that which He enjoinedus to do and avoiding that which Heforbade. By doing so, we will reach thestage of Awliyaa' (piouspeople). ♦♦♦

Signs that Allaah is Pleased with His Servant

By the Noble Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez ibn `Abdullaah Aal Ash-Shaykh

Even Creatures Have Rights

F ROM THE BEST of manners is tobe lenient with both humans and

animals under your ownership. Sobeing lenient with the human beingsunder your ownership is to feed themas you feed yourself, to clothe them asyou clothe yourself and not burden

them with that which they cannot bear. And being lenient with the animalsunder your ownership, inclusive of those which are used for riding ormilking; each one differing according to that which you require them for. Soin winter you place them in a warmplace if they cannot bear the cold, and

in the summer in a cold place if they cannot bear the heat. And to providefood and drink if they cannot take careof themselves. If the animals are fromthose which are used for carrying people (goods), then not tooverburden them with that which they

cannot bear. This is indicative of the completenessof the Sharee`ah , and that it has not leftanything out, even the creatures.Rather, it has allocated for them theirrights.♦♦♦ Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen

If he loves him, for example, as theProphet said, “Thus he whose migration was for Allaah and His Messenger, his migration was for Allaah and His

Messenger, and he whose migration was toachieve some worldly benefit or to take some woman in marriage…”

So if an individual has love for anotherperson such that it is not based on theDeen, or he loves him for his wealth

or his status or other than this fromthese matters; then this love is notbased on the Deen and he wouldknow this in his heart. So the one who

would know this best is the individualhimself.” ♦♦♦ Shaykh Abdullaah al- Ghudyaan

T h e S h a y k h w a s a s k e d ,“Sometimes, I wish to tell you

and other scholars or some brothersthat, “I love you for the sake of

Allaah,” but I refrain from doing sofor fear that I may be lying. How doesone know when he really loves anotherperson for the sake of Allaah ?”

He, may Allaah have mercy on him, responded by saying, “Allaah is

more knowledgeable about the servantthan the servant is about himself; andthe servant knows himself more thanothers know him. So, if he finds in hisheart that he loves this individual forthe sake of Allaah and not for any

worldly affairs. Whether from theperspective of wealth or any othermatter, then this is evidence that heloves this individual for the sake of

Allaah.

Loving for the sake of Allaah

On the authority of `Abdullaah bin `Amr binal-`Aaas who said that the

Messenger of Allaah said:

“Indeed eemaan is created inside one of you just like a

thawb is made, so ask Allaah to revive eemaan in your

hearts.” Silsilah Al-Ahadeeth As-Saheehah

manifest for a believer to know and, consequently, avoid. Those whocontemplate and recite the Qur'an a lotrecognize the characteristics of the

winners and the losers in detail, for Allaah shows them in many Aayaatincluding the former Aayaat and also

Ayah 9 of Soorah Al-Israa’: Verily, this Qur’aan guides to that which ismost just and right and gives gladtidings to the believers (in theOneness of Allaah and His

perform all kinds of good deeds(Al-Ma‘roof) which Allaah has

ordained, and abstain from allkinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar which Allaah hasforbidden], and recommend oneanother to patience (for thesufferings, harms, and injuries

which one may encounter in Allaah’s Cause during preachingH i s r e l i g i o n o f I s l a a m i cMonotheism or Jihaad).

This short Noble Soorah clarifies thatthere are four means of success:

First : Belief in Allaah (Exalted be He)and His Messenger.

Second : Righteous deeds.

Third : Recommending one another tothe truth.

Means of Happiness for the Muslim Nation (Continued from page 1)

Fourth : Recommending one anotherto patience.

Whoever fulfills these four principlesgains the greatest reward and isentitled to receive honor and eternalhappiness on the Day of Judgment

whereas those who abandon themreturn with the greatest loss and theirabode will be Hell, the place of disgrace. Allaah (Glorified be He)explains, diversifies, and repeats thecharacteristics of the winners in HisNoble Book so that a person whoseeks salvation in this life and the

Al-Islaam - the Religion of Peace and Mercy This is the third part of the series based on a lecture from albaseerah.org by Shaykh Abdul Azeez As-Sa’eed, Professor and Head of the College of Sunnah at Imaam Muhammad Islaamic University .

I N THIS ISSUE the Shaykh

concludes the discussion of the mercy of the Prophet and then proceeds with outlining the Mercy in the Religion of Islaam...

From his mercy is what he wasupon from establishing justice betweenthe people he did not oppress anyone.

The disbelievers lived in Madeenahjust as the believers did. He was justtowards them all; he ruled over thebelievers and disbelievers from the

Arabs and the people of the Book andhe did not oppress anyone.

This justice which he was upon and which he practiced towards the Ansaar(those living in Madeenah who aided

him), was due to his implementationof the Qur’aan which was revealed tohim and also because he was sent as amercy to all mankind. It is authentical-ly reported that he said: “I have not been sent as one who curses, but verily I have been sent as a mercy.” [Muslim]His concern was that the people beguided to the Religion of Allaah. Hecalled the people to Allaah from theday he was sent to the day that he died.

These are just a few examples of his

mercy. His mercy is much and we would not be able to enumerate themall at this time.

We will now move on to look at the mercy encompassed in the great Religion of Islaam and its legislation.

And He said, {…Allaah puts noburden on any person beyond whatHe has given him…} [At-Talaaq65:7]I will give two examples of how theburdening has been raised from thisnation of Islaam:1. The first is repentance . In Islaam

if the slave sins he may repent and Allaah will accept it from him. Asfor the previous nations, therepentance that was accepted fromthem for the act of shirk was thatthey killed themselves as Allaahsaid about them: {…So turn inrepentance to your Creator andkill yourselves (the innocent killthe wrong doers among you)…}[Al-Baqarah 2:54]

2. The second example concerns purification . In Islaam, if impurityfalls on your clothing you may washit and it will be considered pure

whereas the previous nations had tocut the impure part out of theirclothing. ♦♦♦

Inshaa’ Allaah, in the next issue wwill continue with the Shaykh’s

discussion of “Mercy in the Religi

The first point is that the religion of Islaam encompasses all the legislation

which brings good to the people inthis world and the next life; Allaah said, {…We have neglected nothingin the Book…} [Al-An`aam 6:38]

He also said, {…And We havesent down to you the Book (theQur'aan) as an exposition of everything...} [An-Nahl 16:89]

The second characteristic is that it is areligion of ease and forgiveness. This isbecause Allaah raised the haraj (difficulty/burden) off of this nation.

He raised from it the restrictions which previously applied to the earliernations; He said, {Allaah burdensnot a person beyond his scope…} [Al-Baqarah 2:286]He also said, {…Allaah does not

want to place you in difficulty…} [Al-Maa’idah 5:6]

From Abu-Dardaa, when death was approaching him, he said:“Shall I narrate a hadeeth to you which I heard from theMessenger of Allaah ? I heard the Messenger of Allaah saying:

‘Worship Allaah as if you see Him, if you do not see Him, then know that He sees you. Count yourself amongst the dead, be careful

And do not undercutone another in trade, but rather be slaves of Allaahand brothers. ISLAAMIC BROTHERHOOD Instructions : Match the Arabic terms with theirEnglish interpretations then fill in the blanks of thehadeeth below.

Q UESTION : In one of the ahaadeeth, the Prophet isreported to have said, “ Any person who is overcome by sadness or grief and supplicates, saying: ‘O Allaah! I am Your servant, son of Your servant and Your female servant. My forelock is in Your Hand. Your decision concerning me shall certainly come to pass.

Just is Your Judgment about me…’” etc.Is it permissible for a woman to say in this du`aa’ andsimilar ones, “I am Amatuk (your female servant),” orshould she say “I am ̀Abduk (lit. your male servant)”?

A NSWER : The matter is open to choice, inshaa’-Allaah (if Allaah wills), but it is better for her to say: Allaahumma inni amatuka wa abnatu ‘abdika wa abnatu amatika (O Allaah,I am Your female servant, daughter of Your male andfemale servants), and so on. This is more appropriate andmore befitting for her. However, if she says the wording that is reported in the hadeeth, there is no problem

inshaa’ Allaah, because even though she is female, she isone of the Servants of Allaah . ♦♦♦ Shaykh Ibn Baaz [Alifta.net]

A NSWER : The adhkaar of the evening can be offered from afternoon untilsunset and at the beginning of thenight. As for the time of adhkaar of themorning, it starts from the break of the dawn until midday. Allaah says,“And glorify the praises of yourLord before the rising of the sun,

and before its setting.” Allaah alsosays, “And remember your Lord within yourself, humbly and withfear and without loudness in wordsin the mornings, and in theafternoons.” The word "afternoons"is the plural of "afternoon", and it isthe period before sunset.

Allaah also said,“So glorify Allaah[above all that (evil) they associate

What do we do withsuch verses after we are finished readingthe newspaper or letter? Should we tearit up or burn it or what should be done?

A NSWER : It is mandatory that after oneis finished with the papers or pages thatcontain Allaah's name, to safeguard thepapers by burning them or burying themin clean soil. This is to protect theQur’aanic verses and Allaah's namesfrom being degraded. It is not allowedto throw them into the garbage heaps, into the street, or to use them asdifferent kinds of sheets such as tablecloths as by doing this one is degradingthe (names of Allaah and His) versesand not safekeeping them.♦♦♦ Shaykh
