Friday the 7h February 2020 students braved the cooler conditions to represent their houses and swim at

the Dunedoo Central School Annual Swimming Carnival. All students competed proudly and in good spir-

its with great support being shown to all swimmers.

As is tradition, the day started with great energy and sportsmanship being shown, through very vocal

house chants as they marched from Dunedoo Central School to the pool. The students were very capably

led by their House Captains and the students could be heard chanting in the distance before their house

colours were visible. Sturt were the victors of the chants!!

It was a very successful day for some swimmers with many records being broken.

The highlight of the day was the Year 12 versus Staff Relay. A very exciting but also very competitive 8-

person relay event was held between the two teams, however, the students narrowly beat the teachers.

Despite the fantastic effort of all students on the day, whether it be in the pool or cheering loudly and

proudly from the sidelines, there can only be one winner. The final scores are as follows:

1st – BASS 481 points 2nd – STURT 399 points 3rd – EVANS 323 points

A big thank you goes to the Swimming Carnival Committee for their organisation and hard work that

make the day possible. Also, a big thank you goes to all the students who represented their house so

wonderfully and to staff in general for their duties on the day. Swimming Carnival Committee

Welcome to Week 3!

Swimming Carnival—Well done to all of the students who participated in

our swimming carnival last week. It was a great day with lots of student

participation and fun. Well done especially to the students who were so

encouraging to all of our students as they participated in their individual

races. Thank you to the Swimming Carnival committee for their great or-

ganisation and all staff who assisted on the day.

Dunedoo Show—this week is our annual show. I encourage all students to participate in some

way—whether it be entering into events/classes at the show or volunteering in some way. Thank

you to our staff for coordinating the school display and entering student works.

Class Information Meetings—Don’t forget the K—6 class meetings this week. This is a great op-

portunity to meet with your child's teacher and to hear in more detail the teaching and learning

programs in place for 2020.

2020 Staffing: Later this week we welcome Ms Meg Tyler to our school. Meg is coming from

Ivanhoe and will be taking 7 Music & LOTE, 9 & 10 Geography and 7—10 English. We look for-

ward to Meg joining our school community.

Scripture: There are new procedures in place for students attending Scripture classes at school.

At Dunedoo Central School, a team of committed Christian people, representing each of the local

churches, conduct ecumenical scripture for K-6, one lesson per week. In Education week there is

a K-12 combined scripture service. We require all new K-6 enrolments to sign a permission note

giving their student permission to participate in these lessons. Notes will be distributed by class

teachers where necessary.

Lions Youth Of The Year—we have 3 students participating in the Lions Youth of the Year Com-

petition this Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening. This is a great opportunity for our stu-

dents to develop both their interview technique and public speaking skills. Good Luck to Harry

Hogden, Georgia Lane and Kye Woodward.

Late to School—I am concerned by the number of secondary students who are repeatedly late to

school. These students will complete a detention after school on Thursdays to make up for the

time that they are late. Students are required to be at school from 8:50am until 3:10pm each day.

If students are late for a legitimate reason such as a Doctor’s appointment, please contact the

front office on 63751489. I appreciate your support of this matter.

Mobile Phone Policy— The Department of Education Policy for mobile phone/digital device

use at school for Primary School students is that they must not use the digital device while at

school unless directly approved by the principal or teacher for educational purposes. Secondary

students at Dunedoo Central school, in line with Departmental Guidelines, are not allowed to use

their digital devices in class unless given permission by a teacher. Secondary students are al-

lowed to use their digital devices at recess and lunchtime for listening to music or video games.

Students are not to use social media platforms while at school. If a student is found to be using

their digital device inappropriately, the device will be taken to the front office to be collected at the

end of the day. If this occurs more than twice, parents will be contacted.

P&C—Don’t forget our first P&C Meeting will be held next Thursday 21st February @ 7pm. I

hope to see many new faces there!

Welcome to a (hopefully!) very wet week; a

welcome change! With this cool weather there

are already many students wearing a jumper

to school. Please could you remember to label

your child’s clothing as the lost property is

starting to build.

Don’t forget the Parent Information Meeting

will be happening this Wednesday after school

at 3.15pm. This is a great opportunity to meet

with your child’s teacher and hear about all

the wonderful things planned for him/her this

year. We will meet as an Infants Department

in the Year 1/2 classroom before splitting into

each child’s class. Students can play in the Kin-

dergarten room while the meeting is on.

Congratulations to the Year 2 students who

swam at the Swimming Carnival last Friday;

Isla Currie, Emily Sawyers, Beau Hall, Lucas

Tisdell, Nick Sawyer and Paul Murray. They

loved walking to the pool and singing the

chants with the big kids, and we were all so

proud of their effort in swimming 33 metres.

Well done to Isla Currie for qualifying for the

next level at the Dubbo District Carnival later

this month.

The Dunedoo Show is on this weekend. The

students are very excited and busy completing

entries for the many competitions. It is always

a great weekend and I hope to see many of

Welcome to Week 3. This week we are looking for-

ward to seeing parents at our class information ses-

sion on Wednesday afternoon, where we will dis-

cuss our goals for the year in terms of curriculum,

and outline our routines, timetables, assessment

and feedback processes. Parents will have the op-

portunity to look at the classroom and the work

children have done in their books so far.

Congratulations to all who attended the swimming

carnival last Friday—it was fantastic to see every-

one working together and giving their best. This

week years 3-5 continue to have swimming for

sport on Fridays, and on Wednesdays some of our

Year 6’s will swim as part of Secondary sport activi-

ties. We finalise our writing and colouring entries

for the annual Dunedoo Show this week, so if you

attend the show, keep an eye out for our submis-

sions! Imaginations have run wild this year, with

impressive results.

Can I ask all parents to support us in the battle

against the spread of head lice. Students should be

reminded to not share hats and/or headwear, and

wherever possible, keep hair tied back. We have

had reports of head lice, and it will take a team

effort if we are to eradicate

them.

and return to the school ASAP. Thank you!

KINDER: Well done to Kindergarten for completing their first full week. Mind you, they were very tired by Friday so I hope

there was plenty of rest over the weekend. Our class routines are pretty well set and the students are working won-

derfully across all areas.

Last week I completed the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment and students tried their hardest engaging in the lit-

eracy and numeracy activities. I sent home feedback to parents today to inform you about how your child per-

formed and suggestions on how to assist further with his/her learning. I would like to send a big thank you to Mrs

Abbott for taking the class whilst I was testing the Kindy students.

Don’t forget there is an information meeting after school this Wednesday at 3.15pm for all parents of Infants stu-

dents. I hope to see many of you there.

Thank you to those mums who have offered to assist with the Home Reader Program this year. We still have some

vacant spots so please let me know if you are able to be involved. Home readers were sent home today. These will

be exchanged each day in class so please remember to pack the reader in your child’s bag. Students also received

their sight words today. These words are for you to keep at home to practice with your child. They will be tested on

them in class and once mastered, the next set will be sent home. The students love doing their sight words as well

as the choice from the treasure bag when they pass each level!

Students have each been allocated a news day (see attached table). News can

be about anything and students often like to bring something in as well. Please

let me know beforehand if it is a live animal!

Year 1-2:

This week our focus sounds are ch, bl and silent w words.

Please encourage your child to find these sounds in words in their environment at home.

Homework books are coming home and can be returned on Friday.

Home readers can come in every day. Thanks to the parents that have offered to listen to our children read aloud. We have Tuesdays and Thursdays covered so far. If you have a spare 40 minutes on Monday, Wednesday or Friday please let me know.

Maths weekly tip: Encourage your child to count by 2s, 5s and 10s from any given number both forwards and back-wards. You may like to do this as an activity while brushing teeth or another known routine.

Counting and reading 2 and three digit numbers is a fun way to establish sound number recognition.

I'm looking forward to the class information session this Wednesday afternoon from 3:15pm - 4pm. If you can't make it I will be sending home information with your child the next day. Please see me if you need support to log onto the Seesaw app as we are starting to use this tool for our learning this week.

Wasn’t that rain unbelievable!!! Another busy week ahead and we begin today with a

refresher on our FiSH philosophy. We also begin our Handwriting program today which we

always enjoy. Yr 5 Maths will be looking at Addition and Subtraction this week and we

will be doing our final draft of our Show stories.

Well done to all of those who participated in our swimming carnival it was a great day :)

YEAR 5/6 S:

I was so proud of the Stage 3 students last Friday—I’m sure these students had the most energy and en-

thusiasm out of all who attended the swimming carnival. It was great to watch their team spirit, along

with their ‘have a go’ attitude! Well done. We will be busy this week with our Show entries, along with

settling down into work routines. Thank you to all parents who took the time to complete our homework

survey—we will collate the results so that we can better cater for the interests of our students.

Year 6 Maths:

Year 6 Maths: Everyone worked with enthusiasm in our Maths class last week and I’m

looking forward to more of the same. We have begun practicing our multiplication tables

at the beginning of every lesson and I’m pleased to say EVERY student handed in their

homework on time. Congratulations Year 6 Maths, lets see if we can do it again this week!

8 ART

This term in Visual Arts, Year 8 will be studying the 7 Elements of Art: Colour, Line, Shape, Tone,

Texture, Form and Space. We will be completing both theory and practical activities on each ele-

ment. The first Element we are focusing on is Colour. Students will be looking at artist Andy War-

hol and using his colourful style as inspiration to complete their own artwork.

9/10 TEXTILES

9/10 Textiles will be having theoretical lessons with myself and practical lessons with Mrs

Douglass. In theory, the girls are beginning a unit on project work. They have been introduced to

the 5 focus areas (Apparel, Textile Arts, Non-Apparel, Furnishings and Costume) and will now be

looking at Designing, Producing and basic Textile techniques.

11/12 TEXTILES

11 Textiles are currently completing a unit on the Elements of Design. They will be looking at

things that influence the design of different textile items such as colour, shape, line etc. 12 Textiles are continuing on from their work last term and looking at outfits and clothes from dif-

ferent periods in time. They will be taking a look at the history of Swimwear and jeans next.

Afternoon study will begin this week on Wednesday only, due

to the Lions Youth of the Year being held on Thursday evening.

Mrs Gallagher will be supervising and is looking forward to

seeing students there!

Welcome back to what I hope will be an exciting and engaging year in PDHPE.

Firstly, I would like to express my thanks to Mr Lane for coming on board to ease

the load in PDHPE this year. Secondly I would like to reinforce some PDHPE poli-

cies at DCS.

It is expected that students will divide their time in PDHPE, between practical and

theory lessons, usually on a 50/50 split where possible. This is to allow the stu-

dents the time to achieve all outcomes prescribed in the most efficient way possi-

ble. As such there are some differing needs when it comes to the requirements for

theory and practical PDHPE lessons. Students are expected to be prepared for the-

ory lessons by;

Bringing exercise books and pens

For practical lessons all students are required to bring:

A change of shirt

Something warm if appropriate

Shorts or Track pants

A change of socks and appropriate enclosed joggers with laces

Caps are encouraged especially in Terms 1 and 4

And a water bottle

All of the above requirements are for the health, safety, comfort and hygiene

of all students. Failure to comply will be noted and there may be sanctions

applied for continual failure to be prepared for PDHPE lessons.

Participation in PDHPE practical lessons is compulsory and expected as it

forms part of the outcomes that need to be met by all students. If participa-

tion in practical lessons is an issue due to health or other reasons a note

should be presented to the PDHPE teacher at the beginning of the lessons

and an appropriate alternative activity will be completed.

As part of the mandatory PDHPE course, we deal with several sensitive is-

sues. These issues include such topics as: sexuality; reproduction and contra-

ception. Should you wish your child not to participate you will need to con-

tact the school so that an alternate program that satisfies the NESA require-

ments can be negotiated.

Bayley, Tom, Chloe, Hayley, Shaun, Deakyn and Jack for your superb behaviour and cooper-

ation at Radio last week.

Mr Westermann gave the students an overview of the running and operation of the com-

munity Radio Station and then the students were thrown straight into delivering the news!
