A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported the Golf Day yesterday to help raise money for Year 11 to subsidise their excur-sion to Selwyn Ski Fields next month. We had 58 golfers and an additional 36 people for lunch - a very big day! Thank you to the Sports Club for hosting the day and their generous donation of the meat for the BBQ lunch and to DRH for their donations for the prizes. Thank you also to those parents who were able to assist on the day. Thank you to everybody who supported the Year 11 Snow Fundraiser Golf Day yes-terday. There were 58 Golfers and 94 people were served lunch. A huge thankyou to the Sports Club for donating the meat for the BBQ and hosting the day. Thank you to Mrs Gallagher and all of the Year 11 students and parents/family who assisted in preparing lunch, and/or made salad and slices. It was a very successful day. School Spectacular – Congratulations to Chelsea Gallagher, Oscar and Sally Chris-tensen who have all been selected to be part of the School Spectacular for 2019. “School spectacular unites kids to be part of the biggest performance of their lives.” There are approximately 5500 students from across the state who perform in the School Spectacular. This is the second year that Sally has been part of this great performance. Sally, Oscar and Chelsea sent in two video auditions to be selected. They will each take part in a num-ber of rehearsals prior to the actual show which will be at the Qudos Bank Arena on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd No-vember. We have purchased some tickets to attend the performance, more details will be given about this closer to the date. Well done to all 3 students. Boccia – Best wishes to Jamieson Lesson who will travel to Korea to compete from the 2 – 9 July as part of the Aus-tralian Team. Jamieson has now been selected to compete in the Open BC3 Individual Competition as well as the BC3 pairs. This competition is again a lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. We look forward to hearing how Jamieson & the Australian Team go! The Dunedoo Central School Boccia team has been invited to compete in the State Carnival in Homebush in Week 3 of next Term. Due to Jamieson’s representative commitments, we were unable to compete in the regional tournament but have been fortunate to be able to go straight through to the State Final – this is in recognition of Jamieson’s fantas-tic achievements and representative efforts. NSW CHSSA Touch Football – Congratulations to Hayley Cox who competed in the Touch Football State Carnival last week in Wollongong. The team finished 5th overall which is a great achievement, particularly as the girls only have a few training sessions as a team prior to competing at the carnival. Well done Hayley! NSW CHSSA Squash – Best wishes to Annie Christensen, Ben Gallagher and Georgie Lane who will all represent Western Region competing in the State Carnival at Thornleigh this week. KINDER TO YEAR 5: Kinder to Year 5 students will be taking Tennis Lessons at Dunedoo Tennis Courts for Sport on Fridays (5th July, 26th July, 2nd August & 9th August) from 9.15am to 11.45am. Tennis racquets will be supplied, however children can bring their own racquets if they wish. Permission Notes have been sent home, please complete and return ASAP.

YEAR 6: Students have sport on Wednesday afternoon, with Secondary students. They have selected a new WINTER SPORT: Please wear DCS Sports Uniform and pack appropriate sports equipment.

Assistant Principal News I'm very excited to return from long service leave to be involved with all of the activities happening this week. Congratulations to Kindergarten for hosting their first Assembly. It's a shame I missed their performances with Year 6 students. It has been wonderful to see the Buddy system between Year 6 and Kindergarten blos-som this year. Well done to all students who were acknowledged at today's whole school Merit Assembly. What an amazing group of students we have at DCS. This week we are looking forward to dressing up to cel-ebrate 100 days of learning at school on Wednesday 3rd July. K-2 are encouraged to dress up as a 100 year old or in colonial clothing. We will be completing activi-ties to celebrate this occasion. Our K-6 Spelling Bee is also on Wednesday followed by a picnic lunch with families. Congratulations to the stu-dents who will be representing their year for this compe-tition. On Thursday all students who have reached Level 2 ACE or above will be celebrating with a movie in the afternoon session with Mr Kline. Students who are still working towards Level 2 will remain with their classroom teacher. On Friday students are encouraged to wear jeans in support of Jeans for Genes day. Please ensure stu-dents bring a gold coin donation to support this worthy cause. K-6 Tennis begins this Friday and will continue into Term 3. A BIG thank you to Mr Kline for organising a grant that will enable all children to have access to a tennis coach during sport sessions. A Gardening Working Bee is occurring on Monday 7th July, 2019 in the school holidays. It would be great to see children and adults join us to support the beautifica-tion of our school. We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holi-day and we are looking forward to seeing students back at school on 23rd July, 2019.

Hello Week 10. Looking back over the term I am always amazed at how much we pack into every week at school. Although we’ve reached the end of the term, there’s no slow-ing down as this week we look forward to celebrating 100 days of school with our annual Spelling Bee in the hall on Wednesday. Parents are invited to join us for this, and bring lunch to eat afterwards. We are also looking forward to our first tennis session on Friday—notes went home for this last week. We have our volunteers coming on the first Monday of the school holidays to work on our garden project, and stu-dents will notice the difference when they return next term. Progress Reports can be discussed with teachers at Tues-day’s parent-teacher meetings. Please phone for an appoint-ment. Have a safe, relaxing school holiday break everyone.

KINDER: Thank you to those who were able to make it to our assembly last Friday. It was really touching to

see that each Kindergarten student was represented by at least one family member in the audience. I was so proud of the class as they hosted their first assembly for the year. They loved preparing for the event and of course being on stage to perform for everyone. School reports went home with students last Friday. Tomorrow are the parent/teacher meetings. This is a great oppor-tunity for us to catch up and discuss your child’s progress so far this year. I would love to share his/her successes with you so please contact the Front Office and book a time. This Wednesday Kindergarten and Year 1/2 are celebrating their 100th day of learning at big school. We have lots of fun activities planned and are asking students to come dressed up. We are looking for students to be either dressed in attire appropriate to colonial times or having aged themselves to look 100 years old. A big thank you to the home reader mums Tanya, Lynn, Emma, Annie, Jen, Amy and Hayley who have given up their mornings every week to come and assist Kindergarten with their reading. YEAR 1/2: Today students thanked Mrs Dorman for a great 2 weeks with a personally signed Thank You

Bear. This week there is no homework. We'll be finishing our Novel Study "Charlottes Web" and completing our HSIE Unit Technology Past and Present as well as our Science Unit All mixed up. Students are coming home with a few treats from my Bali holiday; I hope they enjoy them. I'm looking forward to seeing parents for the Parent/Teacher interviews tomorrow afternoon. YEAR 3-4-5 S: Congratulations to all who received Merit Awards today. I am so proud to have such

hard working, caring and committed students in our class. Annalise and Ethan will be preparing for the Spelling Bee this week, and we wish them well. Last Friday I witnessed some amazing teamwork and problem-solving skills when stu-dents had to program Bee-Bots to navigate an obstacle course. It was so much fun that students didn’t even realise they were practising valuable skills! We will be looking for opportunities to do more of these kinds of activities throughout next term. I hope everyone has the time to relax and refresh over the holiday break, ready for another busy term. Mrs. Georgia Shephard - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 3-4-5 G: We have quite a busy week to finish off the term. We will finalise our scratch coding

activities and finish off our poetry unit. They have both been lots of fun and the students have worked hard. Last week we completed a poem all about ourselves and these are displayed in the wet room. We have all worked so hard this term and everyone has earned a holiday. I look forward to my holiday, but I also look forward to seeing everyone back and raring to go in Term 3 - Stay safe Mrs. Tammy Gallagher - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 6 MATHS: This week in Mathematics we continue our topic on Multiplication and Division. We

will be looking at division and contracted multiplications. The end of term diagnostic test will be on Wednesday. I will be away all week and Mrs Armstrong will be teaching the class. No weekly homework this week. Mrs. Cathy Gallagher

YEAR 6: Hello everyone and welcome back to Week 10 of Term 2! This Wednesday, Mrs Deidre Naden will

visit DCS to introduce herself to staff and students, and to get to know classes prior to commencing LOTE lessons in Term 3 for students in Kindergarten to Year 6. Also this Wednesday, Luke Redding and Riley Fagerstrom will be repre-senting Year 6 as our class’ top spellers at the Primary Spelling Bee Competition in the Hall starting at 12pm. Parents and community members are invited to be an audience. At the conclusion of the Spelling Bee, you are invited to stay for a picnic lunch. P.S - Don’t forget that there is a great opportunity for students in Year 6 to attend a 3-day Literacy Writing Camp in Sydney at the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre. The dates for the camp are Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th September 2019 (Week 10 of Term 3). Please see me for more information if you are interested for your child to attend. P.P.S - Jeans for Genes day will be held this Friday at DCS. Students are allowed to wear jeans to support this great cause. Gold coin donation for wearing jeans and to participate in the lunch time activities and there will be prizes to be won. Have a great week everybody!

We have been studying Forces and using TOYS to do this. Today students are designing and building their own

Force Measurer. ( See attached photos)

With our ‘History Wall- “HISTORY - ITS WHO WE ARE” nearly complete, we have been investigating how Australia ,

from its humble beginnings in 1788 as a struggling convict colony where corruption was rife and ruled by Great Brit-

ain managed to become a prosperous democratic independent nation by 1901. We have investigated the advanced

social legislation for some as well as the extreme difficulties for others in our nation. Our favourite activity was visiting

our local museum.

7/8 TAS We have nearly finished the agriculture/food section of TAS this year. We enjoyed our ‘Master chef’ assess-

ment task and we were successful in establishing some no dig gardens that produced lettuce and snow peas. We also

built a soil moisture meter using a miniature computer and some online coding software.

7/8 English

7/8 English have been studying the novel ‘Trash’. They have finished reading the book and are currently completing activities relating to the book. As well as this, they have continued partici-pating in fun creative writing activities to ensure they are building on their writing skills.

8 Art

Year 8 Art have just completed a unit on Street Art and are moving on to Lino Printing. This unit will include an assessment task where students are evaluated on the skills they have learned and their end product. They are required to carve into a square of lino using special tools, paint it and stamp it onto a piece of paper. It re-quires lots of concentration and accuracy! They have completed an experimentation piece and will move onto their assessment piece this week.

Library News

Mel and I have been very busy in the Library lately deco-rating and have just finished painting a bright and colour-ful geometric feature wall! This wall is lots of fun and is the feature of a cool bean bag area. Come over and have a look if you haven’t seen it already! As the school holidays are coming up, if any students have any overdue books please remember to bring them in to return for a fresh start next term! If you are unsure about if you have any books, come and see Mel or my-self. Have a great two week break!

The Year 10 & Under team (pictured right) won all their pool games against Mendooran, Baradine and Molong. They then played Lake Cargellico in the finals and were unfortunately beaten and so do not go through to the state finals.

The Opens team (pictured left) won their pool games against Gulargambone and Warren and then beat Coolah in the finals to progress to the state finals.

Congratulations to all the girls who played well and gave their best on the day. Thank you to Lisa Johnstone who umpired for us both days.
