Welcome to week 2.

This week our Year 10 and 11 students will complete their first round of tests for the HSC Minimum Standards. Many of the students have already achieved Level 3 in the Numeracy and Reading and so will not have to complete further testing in these assessments. For students who have yet to achieve the standard, they will have another opportunity later this term.

Tell Them From Me Survey —this week students will complete the Tell Them From Me Survey. This is an important part of our annual evaluation of teaching and learn-ing at Dunedoo Central School. We also ask that Parents complete the Survey. This is an invalua-ble tool to give the school feedback in an anonymous form and can give us information about things we are doing well, as well as areas for improvement. Once parents have completed the Survey, they can pick up a copy of last years Production as a token of our appreciation. The link for the survey is on our school Facebook page and in the Newsletter.

Ron Clarke and Fay Blackstock Squash Shields—Today 6 of our Primary students travelled to Parkes to compete in this inaugural Primary Squash event. This competition will become an annu-al event, which we hope to be able to send more students to next year. I will have a full report in the Newsletter next week.

Good Luck to our Year 12 students who continue their HSC Exams this week. Students have al-ready completed English, Primary Industries and Japanese Beginners. All students are reminded that they are welcome to come to school to work with their Teachers’ in preparing for their ex-ams.

Students attending the Secondary Excursion next week will have a meeting to outline rules and responsibilities for attending this Excursion. Students have been given a note for them and their parents to sign. I would like to thank all of the Staff attending both the Primary and Secondary Excursions, giving up time away from their families to provide these fantastic opportunities for our students. I look forward to hearing all about their adventures upon their return.

Have a great week!

What a positive start to the term! Students settled into routines quickly, and are already embracing opportunities at school. Today several of our students are competing in a Squash competition in Parkes, and we are looking forward to hearing how they went. Students in Years 5 and 6 are working on their Personal Research Projects, and have been reminded of the importance of preparation for each lesson. Students in years 3 and 4 have begun group projects on topics of their own choice also. Mrs. Milsom has enjoyed her first week with Year 6 while Mr. Honeysett is on paterni-ty leave, and students have made her feel very welcome. There are a large number of jumpers and hats at school with no name tags. Please remind your child to collect theirs. Uncollected jumpers will be sent to charity. Enjoy Week 2. Mrs. Georgia Shephard Assistant Principal

Congratulations to Year 1/2 for an enter-taining Assembly last Friday. We are all looking forward to Kindergarten hosting this weeks assembly. A reminder that all students need to wear a hat in the sun this term. Please make sure your hats are labelled, with names, so they can be returned. Our gardening projects are coming along beautifully. Check out our Kindness rock path, scarecrow and fairy garden hat are under construction. Have a great week! KINDER: Welcome to assembly week! Kinder will be hosting the Primary Assembly this Friday at 12pm in

the school hall. We will be doing lots of practice throughout the week and I hope many of you can come along to watch. The children are very excited!

Last week, Kindergarten welcomed Balin Davis to our classroom. Balin is transitioning from preschool this term and will be a part of our class on Tuesdays and Thursdays before he commences Kindergarten full time next year. He’s had a wonderful start to Big School and the children have been fantastic in making him a part of our group.

Today we welcomed another new class member. Charlie the Kakariki bird has joined us as part of this term’s Sci-ence unit, ‘Staying Alive’. Charlie will be looked after by Kindergarten and we will monitor the food and water he consumes to stay healthy. A big thank you to Lynn and Colin Brydon for the loan of Charlie.

In History this term, Kinder have joined with Year 1/2 to complete the unit ‘Celebrations’, learning about cultural events and how they are celebrated in our local area and across the world. If last week’s fairy bread was anything to go by, it is going to be a really exciting unit. Kindergarten have also teamed up with Year 1/2 for a Digital Tech-nologies unit. Students will be operating the Bee Bots, Scratch Jnr and even coding simple programs. This promises to be a whole lot of fun!

In Maths this week, students will continue their work on counting forwards and backwards as well as focusing on take away.

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Friday for our assembly. Mr. Ben Kline - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 1/2: This week we are learning about Mass and Volume in Maths. We are focussing on adverbs

and “nk” sounds.

Well done to all students for their perseverance and enthusiasm during Friday’s assembly. Have a great week. Ms. Michelle Gavin - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 3-4-5 S: The positive vibe in our classroom over last week and today is making learning ac-

tivities productive and enjoyable. We have worked on Procedural Recount text types, and group work activities have helped student learning. Year 5 students are realising the importance of planning ahead so that PRP time can be used effectively, and I’m looking forward to watching these projects evolve over the coming weeks. Year 3 and 4 students have group projects to work on in class to learn research and presentation skills.

Homework focuses on these projects this week, and as always is due in on Friday or Monday. Enjoy Week 2.

Mrs. Georgia Shephard - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 3-4-5 G: This week we will continue working on procedural recounts - we started these last

week and were able to identify the difference between a procedural recount and a normal procedure.

Yr. 5 Maths are moving onto length and area this week. (I do assign tasks on Mathletics that focus on what we are doing in class so try and do these first). In PD, we are looking at our personal identities and what our strengths and limitations are, which will help set some personal goals.

A reminder for everyone to bring their hats everyday as this term we have the no hat no play rule in place!

Have a great week. Mrs. Tammy Gallagher - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 6: Welcome to Week 2! Again, we have another busy week full of PRP’s research, where students

will be given 2 periods off in class time and 2 periods of computer-based research. This means students will need to make sure they have activities they can work on when they don’t have access to technology. Year 6 are also en-hancing their grammar and editing skills, as they work through lessons designed to improve their literacy capabili-ties. In Art we have started making letters based on our initials and are weaving wool around them. They are look-ing fantastic and hopefully they will be finished during Art this week. I am thoroughly enjoying my time with Year 6 and am excited for the weeks ahead with this class. Mrs. Brianna Milsom - Classroom Teacher

YEAR 6 MATHS: This week in Mathematics we are multiplying fractions, finding a fraction of a

quantity and adding and subtracting decimals. Weekly homework is due Thursday as usual. Mrs. Cathy Gallagher

Year 11 CAFS

As of this term they become Year 12. We have started our first HSC unit, Research Methodology and learning the fundamentals behind conducting a research. This unit culminates in an Independ-ent Project. In the past, this project has proved challenging but with the use of social media the col-lection of data is easier.

Year 12 CAFS and Hospitality

Exams for both of these is fast approaching and I know the students are using this time usefully. At the end of 3rd term I had the opportunity to attend the NSW Deputy Conference held in Sydney. The conference was based on Instructional Leadership and the key note speakers gave insight to how this may look in schools. It was a good opportunity to network with other DP’s from across the state. Again DCS Hospitality has shown their expertise by catering for the Principals Network Meeting at our school late last term. The Principals and delegates were served expresso coffee and muffins on arrival, then morning tea platters of a range of homemade savouries and slices. Lunch was a choice of Chicken Caesar Salad or Thai beef salad then Citrus Tart or Fresh Fruit Salad. The feedback was extremely complimentary with statements saying it was the best they had. This is no surprise to me as we always try and uphold our school motto “Our Best Always”. Thank you to students and staff who helped on the day.

MR LOCKETT’S CLASSES THIS TERM

Year 7/8 English: My year 7 and 8 class are analysing the importance of auto biographies and biographies in non-

fiction texts. They will be asked to start developing their own auto-biography as part of their research into this area.

Year 9/10 English: Stage 5 English students are examining the genre of Science Fiction, gaining insight into short

stories and film clips over a range of sub-genres. They will also be composing their own science fiction narrative, gain-

ing insight into how current society may impact the future

Year 11 English Standard: Year 11 are now starting their year 12 content, exploring the common module Texts and

Human Experiences by examining the Prescribed text Billy Elliot as well as researching their own related text/s across

a variety of forms.

Year 10 History: Year 10 students are exploring the unit Rights and Freedoms, examining important government poli-

cies and key themes surrounding the civil rights movement in Australia and the USA.
