As many of you know, the Dutchess County RegionalChamber of Commerce has aBoard of Directors, like manynot-for-profit organizations. OurBoard is very active, holdingregular meetings to be updatedon the day-to-day operations,long-term strategic planningand any issues that are occurringwithin the Chamber. The Cham-ber Foundation has its own Boardof Directors.

The Chamber Board’sChair is responsible not onlyfor leading the Board but alsokeeping an eye on all the chairsrunning the Chamber’s othercommittees. It’s a big job, and avolunteer position as well.

For the last year, theChair of our Board has beenFrank Castella, Jr., of Harmonand Castella Printing. Frankie’sterm is about to end, and he willbe replaced by incoming ChairJill Sammon of Central HudsonGas and Electric Corp.

Frankie’s energy andenthusiasm have been an asset tothe Chamber ever since he firstbecame a fixture at events, Boardmeetings and even helping to runand grow our Young Professionalorganization. He is a tirelessworker at his family printingbusiness, continuing in the suc-cess of his father.

But it’s how Frankie givesback that is so impressive. He has

volunteered for such organiza-tions as Saint Francis HospitalFoundation, the Dutchess CountyArts Council and the Alzheimer’sAssociation.

And, as Chair of ourBoard the past year, Frankie hasbeen front and center helpingDutchess County businesses andorganizations succeed as part ofthe Chamber.

It has been theChamber’s good fortune to haveFrankie as the Chair of ourBoard. He is not only a greatambassador for the Chamber, buthe and his family business are theepitome of Think Local First.

So, on behalf or ourChamber staff and the more than2,100 members of the DutchessCounty Regional Chamberof Commerce, I want to pub-licly thank Frank Castella Jr. forserving as our Board Chair soadmirably this last year. We aregoing to miss his leadership, buthe won’t be far away. And that’sjust fine with me.

Sincerely,

Charles S. NorthPresident & CEO

‘Tech’ the halls this holiday seasonTrying to figure out what to get the

special people in your life this holi-day season but not sure where to start?Check out some of these amazing gad-gets coming to stores this season thatyou may want to get your hands on fast.

First, if you know someone in themarket for a new cell phone, the Sam-sung Galaxy S3 may be what you’relooking for. The great thing about thisphone is that it is fully loaded with An-droid 4.0, has a quick dual-core proces-sor and an 8-megapixel camera. Keepin mind, the screen isn’t as vivid as itsSiri competition and its voice recogni-tion capability leaves something to bedesired. Overall, it is a high-performinghardware and creative features makethis a great value for the money.

If you have someone into photogra-phy, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200Vis fast with megazoom and excellent

photo or video quality. Plenty of optionsfor shooting photos also make both theamateur and advanced users happy. Thedown side some of its shooting modesand general operation can get confusingif you want to do more than leave it inauto, so keep that manual handy. In to-tal, this is a lot of camera for the moneyfor a camera in this class.

Maybe you’re planning to upgradesomeone’s main point of entertainment, their living room television. There areso many options on the market, but theSamsung SyncMaster S27B970 has

amazing performance with an ultrasleek design that could appeal to eventhe most traditional living space. Thisone is pricey, around $1200. Bottomline it may be costly than some otheroptions but style and function couldoutweigh the competition and some ofthe less than stellar design choices forplacing cable connections.

These are just some of your choic-es as you start your holiday shopping, always remember not matter the gad-get, do your research into the itemyou’re looking for so you can makethe best selection of features, style andfunction for your budget.

Give An Hour, a nonprofitorganization providing free mentalhealth services to U.S. military per-sonnel and loved ones affected bythe current conflicts in Iraq and Af-ghanistan, is a national service pro-vided locally by mental health pro-fessional Joan Cybulski. ThroughGive An Hour, Cybulski offers arange of complimentary mentalhealth services to veterans in orderto address a variety of needs forthose seeking services.

Cybulski has worked con-sistently in the field of socialwork, nursing and mental healththroughout her career. She special-izes in mental health counseling, which includes various addictionssuch as gambling and chemicaldependence, and she integratescomplementary methodologiesand techniques to offer a highlypersonalized approach tailored toeach client. For anyone consider-ing treatment, Joan is located at 70North Clove Road in Verbank, andcan be reached at 845-677-4863.

Give an Hour was founded inSeptember 2005 by Dr. BarbaraVan Dahlen, a psychologist in theWashington, D.C., area. The or-ganization’s mission is to developnational networks of volunteers ca-pable of responding to both acuteand chronic conditions that arisewithin our society.

The Give An Hour definition of“family” is quite broad and includesbut is not limited to the following:spouses, children, parents, siblings, extended family members, andunmarried partners. They pridethemselves on offering services toanyone who is or has been affecteddirectly or indirectly (through arelationship with someone in themilitary) by the current conflicts inIraq and Afghanistan.

Visitors who seek services fromGive an Hour may benefit fromdifferent types of support. The pro-gram believes that those affectedby the recent Middle East conflicts

would not need mental health ser-vices if not for the unusual andextreme circumstances createdby the situation, and are thereforeflexible in arranging phone supportand other unorthodox methods oftreatment. For more informationabout the services and about theprogram, visit giveanhour.org.

The award recognizes the in-novative work of health plans todevelop programs that addresscritical health care issues. In 2008,CDPHP launched EPC with thegoal of increasing the value andquality of health care, while ad-dressing the shortage of primarycare physicians. The programabandoned the “fee-for-service”model, which has historically re-duced the amount of time doctorsare able to spend with patients.Instead, EPC rewards doctors forspending more time with patientswith the greatest needs.
