MAVERICKS NOTES Statistical research assistance provided by the Elias Sports Bureau CARTER CLOSING IN ON 8,000 CAREER FIELD GOALS: Mavericks swingman Vince Carter has 7,987 field goals and needs 13 buckets for 8,000 in his career. He will become the 33rd player in NBA history with at least 8,000 career field goals. There are only five active players with more career field goals than Carter: Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki and Ray Allen. RESERVES LEAD DALLAS TO WIN AT MINNESOTA: Dallas’ bench played a key role in the Mavericks’ 100-77 win at Minnesota on 3/10/13. Vince Carter, Elton Brand and Darren Collison came off the bench to record team highs in points (22), rebounds (12) and assists (eight), respectively. It marked only the fifth game in franchise history, and the first since 12/23/94, in which three different reserves posted outright team highs for Dallas in those three categories. The Mavericks dropped each of their previous four games of that kind. The Mavericks’ bench outscored the Timberwolves’ bench, 58-22, on the night. Carter led the way with 22 points, while Brandan Wright (13) and Brand (10) also scored in double figures off the pine. Collison finished with nine points to go along with his game-high eight assists. Mayo totaled 30-plus points for the third time in Dallas’ first 20 games of the season (he had 30 vs. Charlotte on 11/3/12 and 32 vs. Portland on 11/5/12). Before Mayo, no starting guard had even reached that plateau in a game for Dallas since Jason Terry on 2/8/10 (36 at Golden State). Mayo also became the first Maverick other than Dirk Nowitzki to score 40 points in a game since Rodrigue Beaubois tallied 40 off the bench at Golden State on 3/27/10. O.J. TREY-O: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo is shooting a career-best 42 percent (120-of-286) from deep this season. The highest 3-point field goal percentage he has posted for a season was 38.4 percent (career highs of 145-378 3FGs) in 2008-09. Mayo has four games with six-plus 3-pointers on the year (7-10, vs. Charlotte 11/3/12; 6-8, vs. Portland 11/5/12; 6-9, vs. Detroit 12/1/12; 6-9, at Houston 12/8/12). Dallas is 4-0 in those games. He had only two games with six treys in his career prior to the 2012-13 season. Dallas is also 5-1 this season when he makes at least five 3-pointers in a game, and 16-7 when he hits at least three treys. Mayo shot 56.8 percent (42-74 3FGs) from beyond the arc through the first 13 games of the 2012-13 season (at L.A. Lakers 10/30/12-vs. New York 11/21/12). He made a career-high seven treys (7-10 3FGs) vs. Charlotte on 11/3/12 and hit his 500th career triple at New York on 11/9/12. Mayo’s first 3-pointer at Phoenix (12/6/12) was his 50th of the season, making him the fastest Maverick to that milestone. He hit his 50th trey in Dallas’ 19th game of the year (he shot 52-102, .510, from 3-point range through the first 19 games). Prior to Mayo, Jason Terry was the only Maverick to hit 50 threes in the first 20 team games of a season, having made his 50th in the 20th game of the 2007-08 season (on 12/6/07, exactly five years ago to the day). Mayo started each of Dallas’ first 19 games in 2012-13. His 19 personal games needed to reach the 50-triples mark is also the fewest ever by a Dallas player (Terry played in each of Dallas’ first 20 games in 2007-08 and was again the previous record holder). Mayo hit his 100th 3-pointer in Dallas 50th game of the season versus Golden State on 2/9/13. He made 100 treys in 66 games with Memphis last season (100-275, .364). THE MAYO FACTOR: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo has averaged 19.8 points on 51.8 percent shooting (.547 3FG) in Dallas’ 29 wins this season. Dallas is 8-3 this season in games in which he scored at least 25 points and 3-1 in games in which he scored at least 30. The Mavericks are also 15-10 in games in which Mayo was their leading scorer (includes ties), and that includes five overtime losses. Mayo has 21 games with 20-plus points this season (Dallas is 14-7 in those games), after he recorded only six 20-point efforts with Memphis all of last year. Dallas is 17-9 in games in which he scored 19-or-more points. Mayo is the only player that has appeared in every game for Dallas this season (he’s started every game). He came off the bench in all 66 games for Memphis in 2011-12. BRAND PROVIDING BLOCKS AND OFFENSIVE BOARDS: Mavericks big man Elton Brand leads the team in blocks per game (1.3) and total blocks (76). He has 25 games with at least two blocks this season. He has also recorded four-plus blocks on four occasions (4 vs. Detroit 12/1/12, 5 vs. New Orleans 1/5/13, 4 at Sacramento 1/10/13, 4 at Phoenix 2/1/13). With his first block of the game (1,632nd career) at the 8:08 mark of the first quarter vs. Golden State (11/19/12), he passed Vlade Divac (1,631) for 25th place on the NBA’s all-time blocks list. He passed Rockets head coach Kevin McHale (1,690) for 24th place on the NBA’s all-time blocks list with his 1,691st career rejection against Houston on 3/6/13. Brand currently has 1,693 career blocks and needs seven to become the 24th player in NBA history with at least 1,700. Moses Malone ranks 23rd all-time with 1,733 career swats. Brand is also one of the premier offensive rebounders in the game. He has recorded 116 offensive rebounds this season (Marion is the only Maverick with more) and has 3,156 offensive boards for his career (ranks 21st all-time). Tim Duncan is the only active player with more career offensive rebounds than the 6-foot-9 Brand. Terry Cummings ranks 20th all-time with 3,183 career offensive rebounds. BRAND RECOGNITION: Mavericks big man Elton Brand achieved several milestones during the month of January. He recorded his 400th career double-double against Houston on 1/16/13 when he totaled 11 points and 10 boards. He became the 96th player in NBA history to eclipse the 16,000-point plateau at Orlando on 1/20/13. Brand also appeared in his 900th career regular-season game against Phoenix on 1/27/13.

VINTAGE BRAND: Mavericks forward Elton Brand went 10-of-13 (.769) from the field en route to a vintage 20-point performance vs. Minnesota on 1/14/13. He shot 76.9 percent from the field, marking the first time in nearly six years that he shot that high of a percentage while attempting 13-plus shots (shot .846, 11-13, vs. Golden State 1/17/07). Brand had another throwback performance earlier in the season when he recorded 17 points (8-12 FGs, 1-2 FTs), 12 rebounds and four blocks in 28 minutes vs. Detroit (12/1/12). It marked just the second time in the past five-plus years that Brand posted those numbers (19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks at L.A. Clippers 3/16/11). CARTER’S 1,000TH GAME: Mavericks swingman Vince Carter appeared in his 1,000th career regular-season game against the Lakers on 11/24/12. He became the 104th player in NBA history to reach the milestone. It was Carter’s 75th regular-season game with Dallas. He scored 16 points (5-10 FGs, 4-7 3FGs, 2-2 FTs) in 17 minutes against the Lakers (11/24/12). Carter, who is in his 15th season, has played for five NBA teams over the course of his career: Toronto, New Jersey, Orlando, Phoenix and Dallas. ALL O.J. IN OT: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo scored all 11 of Dallas’ points in overtime in the 105-101 loss to Golden State on 11/19/12. Prior to Mayo, the last player to score all of his team’s points in an overtime period (with at least 10 points) was Russell Westbrook at New Jersey on 12/1/10 (he scored all 13 of Oklahoma City’s points in the third overtime period of that game). Mayo went 5-of-8 from the field in overtime against the Warriors (11/19/12). He finished with a team-high 27 points in 41 minutes. Twenty-three of his 27 points came in the second half and overtime. 20,000 MANIAACS: Since 12/15/01, Dallas has sold out 461 regular-season home games, which is an NBA-best-sellout streak. Dallas has also sold out an additional 60 playoff games during that same stretch. The game against the Lakers on 11/24/12 was the Mavericks’ 500th consecutive sellout (regular season and postseason combined). The listed capacity for American Airlines Center is 19,200 but that can be surpassed because of attendance in the suites. Since moving into American Airlines Center (2001-02 season), the Mavericks have posted a record of 362-110 (.767) at home during the regular season. Dallas has sold out all of its games in each of the past 10 seasons. CINCO DE MAYO: Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo scored 20-plus points in five consecutive games from 11/3-11/10/12 (30 vs. Charlotte 11/3/12, 32 vs. Portland 11/5/12, 22 vs. Toronto 11/7/12, 23 at New York 11/9/12, 22 at Charlotte 11/10/12). He averaged 25.8 points per game over the five-game span and led the team in scoring in all five games (includes one tie). Mayo’s streak of consecutive 20-point games came to an end vs. Minnesota on 11/12/12 when he finished with 18 points in 34 minutes. The only other time Mayo scored 20-plus points in five straight games during his career was in his rookie season from 11/22-11/29/08. 60-PLUS PERCENT IN CONSECUTIVE GAMES: After shooting 61.3 percent (49-of-80) from the field in the 126-99 win over the Bobcats on 11/3/12, the Mavericks shot 61.5 percent (48-of-78) from the floor in the 114-91 win over the Blazers on 11/5/12. The Mavericks had never shot 60-plus percent from the field in consecutive games in a single season prior to the games versus Charlotte (11/3/12) and versus Portland (11/5/12). What’s more, if you combine their field goal percentage over those two games, it’s 61.4 percent. That’s their highest field goal percentage over a two-game span in a single season in franchise history. The Mavericks recorded consecutive 60-plus percent shooting nights in just their third and fourth games of the 2012-13 season, and without 11-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup. Before the game against the Bobcats on 11/3/12, the last time the Mavericks shot at least 60 percent from the field in a game was at Houston on 11/25/09 (shot .655, 55-of-84). STARTING OFF ON THE WRIGHT FOOT: Mavericks big man Brandan Wright scored in double figures in each of Dallas’ first six games of the season (at L.A. Lakers 10/30/12 to at New York 11/9/12). His double-figure scoring streak came to an end when he finished with eight points in 23 minutes at Charlotte on 11/10/12. Prior to the 2012-13 season, Wright hadn’t scored in double figures in more than three consecutive games (he managed 10-plus points in three straight games for the first time in his career at Houston 3/24/12 to at Miami 3/29/12). Wright averaged 12.0 points on 70.5 percent (31-of-44) shooting in his first six games of the season. He scored his 1,000th career point with a jumper at the 11:14 mark of the fourth quarter versus Portland on 11/5/12. Wright appeared in 49 games for Dallas in 2011-12, but did not record a start with the Mavericks until opening night of the 2012-13 season (at L.A. Lakers 10/30/12). He started the first eight games of the 2012-13 season for Dallas. BACK-TO-BACK 30-POINT GAMES FOR MAYO: In just his third regular-season game as a Maverick, O.J. Mayo connected on a career-high seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 30 points (10-17 FGs, 7-10 3FGs, 3-3 FTs) in 32 minutes vs. Charlotte (11/3/12). The following game vs. Portland (11/5/12), Mayo celebrated his 25th birthday by pouring in a game-high 32 points (12-18 FGs, 6-8 3FGs) in 39 minutes. He scored 30-plus points in consecutive games for the fourth time in his career but the first since February 2009 (33 at Washington 2/2/09, 32 vs. Houston 2/4/09). The 32-point outing against Portland (11/5/12) was the 10th 30-point game of Mayo’s career. It was also his seventh career 30-point game during the month of November. Mayo had seven 30-point games as a rookie in 2008-09, the highest total among rookies that year, but he had only one over the past three seasons (40 points at Denver 11/1/09). Last year, Dallas didn’t have a player score 30-plus points in a game until the 21st game of the season (Jason Terry, 34, vs. San Antonio 1/29/12). Mayo dropped 30-plus points twice in the first four games of the 2012-13 regular season. He became the first Maverick other than Dirk Nowitzki to score 30-or-more points in two straight games since Josh Howard did it in March 2008 (Howard had 30-plus points in 3 straight games: 32 vs. L.A. Clippers 3/25/08, 30 at Denver 3/27/08, 36 at Golden State 3/30/08). Nowitzki was out of the lineup when Howard recorded his consecutive 30-point games in March 2008, as he was when Mayo recorded his back-to-back 30-point efforts in November 2012. Mayo shot 62.9 percent (22-of-35) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from deep in the two-game span against Charlotte (11/3/12) and Portland (11/5/12). He outshot the entire Charlotte team 70 percent (7-of-10) to 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from beyond the arc in the win on 11/3/12, and the entire Portland team 75 percent (6-of-8) to 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from deep in the win on 11/5/12. THREE-POINT BARRAGE: The Mavericks shot 16-for-25 (.640) from beyond the arc in the 126-99 win over the Bobcats on 11/3/12. It was their highest 3-point field goal percentage in a game in franchise history with a minimum of 25 3-point field goal attempts. The Mavericks’ previous high 3-point field goal percentage in a game (minimum 25 attempts) was 60 percent on two occasions (Dallas went 15-of-25 from 3-point range vs. Phoenix on 4/5/09 and 15-of-25 from 3-point range at the L.A. Lakers on 12/6/02). Prior to Dallas, the last NBA team to shoot 64-plus percent from deep (minimum 25 attempts) was Minnesota on 12/4/10 (shot 18-26 3FGs, .692, vs. Cleveland). After shooting 64 percent (16-of-25) from long range against the Bobcats on 11/3/12, the Mavericks shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from deep in the 114-91 win over the Blazers on 11/5/12. Dallas shot 57.8 percent (26-of-45) from beyond the arc in the two-game span against Charlotte and Portland. CARLISLE’S 200TH WIN WITH DALLAS: With the 126-99 victory over Charlotte on 11/3/12, Rick Carlisle recorded his 200th win with the Mavericks. He became one of three coaches in franchise history to achieve the milestone. Only Don Nelson (339) and Dick Motta (329) have more wins with Dallas.

BACK-TO-BACKS: The Mavericks are 2-10 in the first half of a back-to-back and 4-8 in the second half of a back-to-back this season. The Mavericks have 16 back-to-backs in 2012-13, with only one stretch of four games in five nights. In total, 10 back-to-backs are on the road, three begin at home and conclude on the road and three are road-to-home. Dallas played 22 back-to-backs in 2011-12, going 7-15 in the first half and 13-9 in the second half of those back-to-backs.

SPRINGTIME TRADITION: Dallas made its 12th consecutive trip to the postseason (17th overall) in 2012. The streak is the longest in franchise history and currently the second-longest in the NBA. San Antonio (15 consecutive playoff appearances) is the only team with a longer active streak. The Mavericks have made three Western Conference Finals appearances in that span (four in franchise history: 1988, 2003, 2006, 2011) and advanced to the NBA Finals twice (2006 and 2011). They captured their first NBA championship in 2011. HOW THE ROSTER WAS BUILT: After the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, Dallas began its busy offseason by signing head coach Rick Carlisle to a contract extension on 5/15/12. The Mavericks then turned their attention to the draft for an opportunity to get younger. On the night of the draft (6/28/12), the Mavericks acquired the draft rights to the 24th overall pick Jared Cunningham, the 33rd overall pick Bernard James and the 34th overall selection Jae Crowder from Cleveland in exchange for guard Kelenna Azubuike and the draft rights to the 17th overall pick Tyler Zeller. On 7/12/12, Dallas acquired point guard Darren Collison and guard/forward Dahntay Jones from Indiana in exchange for center Ian Mahinmi. The following day (7/13/12), the Mavericks signed center Chris Kaman and were awarded forward Elton Brand via the amnesty waiver claim. Dallas signed free agent guard O.J. Mayo on 7/19/12. By 7/25/12, Dallas had signed all three of its draft picks (Cunningham, James and Crowder). Free agent guard Mike James was signed to a 10-day contract by Dallas on 1/8/13. The Mavericks signed him to a second 10-day contract on 1/18/13, and then signed him for the remainder of the season on 1/28/13. In a trade deadline deal on 2/21/13, Dallas acquired guard Anthony Morrow from Atlanta in exchange for Dahntay Jones. The roster currently stands at 14 players. Of those 14 players, five were on the Mavericks’ roster last season (Rodrigue Beaubois, Vince Carter, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki and Brandan Wright) and three remain from the Mavericks’ 2011 title team (Nowitzki, Marion and Beaubois). DIRK ON THE ALL-TIME SCORING LIST: With a jumper at the 5:38 mark of the third quarter against Phoenix on 1/27/13, Dirk Nowitzki passed Allen Iverson (24,368) for 18th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The basket gave him 13 points for the game and 24,370 for his career. Nowitzki currently has 24,659 career points. Patrick Ewing ranks 17th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 24,815 career points. Nowitzki ranks third among active players in career scoring, trailing only Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. Only three other players born outside of the United States have more career points than the 7-footer from Germany: Hakeem Olajuwon (26,946, born in Nigeria), Dominique Wilkins (26,668, born in France) and Ewing (24,815, born in Jamaica). Nowitzki reached the 20,000-point mark during the 2009-10 season, becoming the first European-born player to achieve the milestone. THREE-POINT STREAK ENDS AT 1,108: The Mavericks went 0-of-13 from beyond the arc at Toronto on 12/14/12. It ended an NBA-record streak of 1,108 consecutive regular-season games with at least one 3-point basket (vs. Sacramento 2/27/99-at Boston 12/12/12). It was Dallas’ first game without a 3-point basket since 2/26/99 (went 0-of-8 from deep at Utah). During the streak, which last nearly 14 years, 81 different players made at least one 3-pointer for the Mavericks. HEAD COACH RICK CARLISLE Virginia • 10 Years Head Coaching Experience Career Regular Season Record (11th Season): 508-358 (.587); Career Playoff Record: 53-50 (.515) Regular Season Record with Dallas (5th Season): 227-147 (.607); Playoff Record with Dallas: 23-18 (.561) Rick Carlisle is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. He signed a contract extension with the club on May 15, 2012, after leading the Mavericks to the postseason in each of his first four seasons at the helm. Carlisle recorded his 500th career win against Portland on Feb. 6, 2013, becoming the 28th coach in NBA history to reach the milestone. Carlisle led his team to the playoffs nine times in his first 10 seasons as a head coach. He guided the Mavericks to their first-ever world championship in 2010-11, and became one of only 11 individuals to win an NBA championship as both a player and as a head coach (won a title as a player with Boston in 1986). Carlisle became the ninth Dallas coach in franchise history on May 9, 2008. He joined the Mavericks after spending six seasons, with Detroit and Indiana, as a head coach. Carlisle has been named NBA Western Conference Coach of the Month twice since joining the Mavericks (April 2010 and February 2011). He served as an ESPN studio analyst during the 2007-08 NBA season before coming to Dallas. Carlisle began his head coaching career with Detroit. During his two-season tenure, the Pistons won 61 percent (100-64) of their games to go along with two Central Division championships and one trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Following his first season as head coach in 2002, Carlisle earned the NBA’s Coach of the Year award. Carlisle joined Indiana as the head coach on Sept. 2, 2003. In his first year, Carlisle led the Pacers to the NBA’s best record (61-21), the most victories in franchise history, the best winning percentage in team history (.744) and a Central Division championship. He also led the Pacers to the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals where they eventually lost to the Pistons.

Carlisle, including his previous two seasons with Detroit, became the first coach since Pat Riley to win 50 games and division championships in each of his first three seasons as a head coach. Overall, Carlisle earned a 181-147 (.552) regular season record in Indiana and led the team to three consecutive postseason appearances before stepping down following the 2006-07 campaign. A native of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Carlisle began his coaching career in 1989 as an assistant with the New Jersey Nets. In five seasons with the Nets, he had the opportunity to work under Hall of Fame coaching legends Bill Fitch and Chuck Daly. Carlisle then moved on to Portland, where he spent three seasons as an assistant under P.J. Carlesimo before joining former teammate Larry Bird’s staff in Indiana during the summer of 1997. In 1984, Carlisle began his NBA career as the only rookie to make the Boston Celtics roster. He spent three seasons in Boston and enjoyed his best year as a pro when he averaged 9.9 minutes in 77 games for the 1986 world champions. He then played one year with the New York Knicks under head coach Rick Pitino before moving on to New Jersey, where he played briefly for Fitch before being offered an assistant coaching position with the franchise.
