HAWKS IN THE COMMUNITY:

• Novelis to Become Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena’s Official Sustainability Partner: The Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena

announced a multi-year partnership with Novelis, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling on Monday, Nov. 15. The partnership

will primarily focus on promoting sustainability, responsible recycling, and a circular economy. Through the partnership, State Farm Arena’s

most premium suite level will carry the name “The Novelis Sustainable World Veranda Level,” as aluminum cups, canned water and recycling

receptacles will be made available in each suite. Additionally, the Hawks will partner with Novelis on a variety of other initiatives, including

hosting an annual, green-centered, joint community service project and a ‘Green Game’ later this season.

Atlanta area will attend each of the 20 games and receive complimentary tickets, transportation as and a signature shirt from Collins’ The

Baptist Collection clothing brand. Sharecare, the team’s official jersey patch partner, partnered with Collins to provide the necessary resources

comprised of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) including Jackson State University, Smith’s alma matter. Additionally, beginning

HAWKS BIOS

HEAD COACH NATE MCMILLAN

Nate McMillan was named as the 14th full-time head coach in Atlanta Hawks history on July 8, 2021.

After being named interim head coach on March 1, 2021, he led the Hawks to a 27-11 mark (.711) the remainder of the 2020-21 regular

season (including winning his first eight contests) and was named NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for March after leading

Atlanta to a 9-4 record. He became the 20th winningest coach in NBA history on Apr. 4 (673, surpassing Mike D’Antoni) when Atlanta

defeated Golden State. After the 9-4 March, Atlanta went 11-6 in April and 7-1 in May. The 27-11 mark after March 1 equaled the best

record in the East, was tied for third-best in the NBA and tied the franchise mark for best record over the Hawks’ final 38 games (1986-

87).

Entering the playoffs as the fifth seed, Atlanta reached the Eastern Conference Finals for just the second time in Atlanta fr anchise

history, registering a franchise-record 10 postseason victories (10-8).

As head coach with Seattle (2000-05), Portland (2005-12), Indiana (2016-20) and the Hawks, McMillan has led his teams to a 697-608

(.534) mark in 1,305 career regular season games. In his final season in Indiana, the Pacers finished 45-28 (.616), second in the Central

Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference. In his four years with Indiana, the club recorded a 183-136 mark (.574), advancing to

the playoffs each season. He has 71 games of postseason coaching experience.

McMillan, born Aug. 3, 1964, has a vast basketball background as a player and a coach. After playing collegiately at North Carolina

State, McMillan was drafted by Seattle (30th overall) in the 1986 NBA Draft. He played his entire 12-year career with the Sonics and

had his number (10) retired. He is second in franchise history in assists and steals and ranks in the top 10 in eight other categories. He

was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive team twice (1994 and ’95) and led the league in steals in the 1994-95 season with 2.96 per

game. In his 12 seasons with the Sonics, they reached the playoffs 11 times.

After his playing days, McMillan was a Seattle assistant coach for two years and became the interim coach in 2000. He remained the

Sonics’ coach until 2005 and then became Portland’s head coach until March 2012. In 2008-09, he led the Trail Blazers to 54-28 record,

sixth-best record in franchise history and helped the Trail Blazers reach the playoffs in three of his six seasons. McMillan also served

as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team where he coached his teams to gold medals in the 2006 FIBA World Championships,

the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.

McMillan was also inducted into the National Junior College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 after playing at Chowan College before

transferring to North Carolina State. McMillan and his wife, Michelle, have two children, Jamelle, a Hawks’ assistant coach, and

Brittany.
