Dear Friends,

I’ve just come home from a lovely morning spent in the companyof good friends worshipping together and enjoying a meal togeth-er. I have been at Holy Trinity Church, Corris, to celebrate the50th anniversary of the Reverend Canon Martin Riley’s priesthood.Bishop Andrew gave thanks for Martin’s dedicated service to thepeople of our Diocese as a Parish Priest and as a “retired” cleric.Martin has never retired and continues his ministry in Corris andbeyond. Next Sunday (29th) we will all be gathering together atSt Peter’s to celebrate a new ministry as we welcome our Curate,Naomi Starkey. Naomi will be ordained at our cathedral on Satur-day the 28th June, photos and reports will be in the August edi-tion of the magazine.

We give thanks to God for these two people – for Martin as welook back on his 50 years of spreading the Good News; for thecountless lives he has touched in God’s name; for the countlesspeople who have heard God’s voice through him. For Naomi aswe look forward to the future with renewed hope as she begins anew ministry; as she takes up the story. Martin’s ministry willcontinue, at a slower pace maybe, as Naomi’s grows over theyears to come. I felt very humble in the service today as I lookedat Martin and I thought about Naomi and gave thanks to God forcalling us to this place of service. “God is good – all the time”

On Sunday afternoon, 27th July we come together again at StPeter’s for another “new beginning” as the Bishop affirms ourMinistry Area of Cyfeiliog a Mawddwy, licences the Ministry Teamand The Rev Roland and me as team leaders. Please pray for usand support us at the service.

with love and every blessing to you and yours

Rev Kathleen

Open the Book

Open the Book training held at Machynlleth was well supported bymany churches and chapels in the south of the Archdeaconry. Weare very grateful to Jon Price (CYFME) for arranging the trainingnearer home. This initiative has been very successful in schools throughout Eng-land and Wales for some years now and is growing rapidly in ourown Diocese. The idea is to tell stories from the Bible in a simpleand engaging way to our school children. With a few dedicated peo-ple – no acting experience needed – a few very simple props – some-one else’s rubbish is our treasure – a school assembly – children arealways willing to do the sound effects – and in fifteen minutes thestory is told. It’s fun for everyone involved. The story has not been told for too long and therefore has been for-gotten. The story needs to be told again.

Corris News

Mothers' Union

On 2nd June Beth very kindly invited Corris and MachynllethMothers' Union members to a House-Warming Tea at her new home.We had hoped to be out in her garden but it was not quite warmenough for this. However we all managed to get inside and had avery enjoyable afternoon with a delicious tea. Thank you Beth. Every year Mothers' Union members are encouraged to have agarden party or similar event to raise funds for the Wheels Appeal.Money raised will help Mothers Union Community Development Coor-dinators to access isolated families and communities to offer trainingand advice they desperately need. Reaching some areas is madedifficult by the harsh climate, long distances, poor roads and tribalconflicts in communities in Kenya for instance. The workers supportMU members to push for change, helping them to offer marriage andrelationship support, set up literacy groups, train birth attendantsand teach about peace and reconciliation. We have been able to send £ 106 as a result of the tea and wehope this will help change the lives of some isolated families in vari-ous parts of the world. The website www.mothersunion.org has more information aboutMothers' Union and the work done world wide.

BAPTISM/BEDYDD

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continuesfor the rest of our lives. It is a joyful occasion when we rejoice inwhat God has done for us through Jesus Christ. We make seriouspromises and we publicly declare our faith.

As we welcome new Christians and promise to support them, we arereminded of our own baptisms, and we reflect on our own Christianjourneys. The service uses many vivid pictures or symbols. The signof the cross reminds us of Christ’s death for us. Water is a sign ofnew life as we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit. Wateralso reminds us of the baptism of Jesus. A lighted candle is a symbolof new life and of the light of Christ conquering evil. Those who are baptised walk in the light for the rest of their lives.

As you pray for those being baptised, picture them with the wholeChurch throughout the ages, journeying into the fullness of God’slove.

Mae bedydd yn nodi dechrau siwrnai bywyd gyda Duw, siwrnai sy’npara am weddill ein bywyd. Mae’n achlysur o lawenydd pan ydanni’n ymhyfrydu yn yr hyn mae Duw wedi ei wneud i ni drwy ei fab,Iesu Grist. Rydan ni’n gwneud addewidion difrifol, ac yn datgan einffydd yn gyhoeddus.

Wrth i ni groesawu Cristnogion newydd i’n plith, a gaddo eu cefnogi, rydan yn cael ein hatgoffa o’n bedydd ni ein hunain, a llwybr eintaith Gristnogol.

Yn ystod y gwasanaeth defnyddir lluniau a symbolau byw iawn. Maearwydd y Groes yn ein hatgoffa fod Crist wedi marw drosom. Mae’rdŵr yn dynodi bywyd newydd wrth i ni gael ein hail eni drwy ddŵra’r Ysbryd Glân. Mae’r dŵr hefyd yn ein hatgoffa o fedydd yr Iesu.Bywyd newydd ydy’r gannwyll a goleuni’r fflam yn dangos Crist yngorchfygu angau. Mae’r rhai sy’n cael eu bedyddio yn cerdded yngngoleuni Crist am weddill eu bywyd.

12

Wrth i chi weddïo dros y rhai sy’n cael eu bedyddio, meddyliwch amdanyn nhw gyda’r Eglwys gyfan ar hyd yr oesoedd yn teithio i gy-flawnder Cariad Duw.

As a church, we are always pleased to welcome adults who wish tobe Baptised and young parents who wish their children to be Bap-tised. This year we have welcomed Genesis Dove to Holy TrinityChurch, Corris. At St Peter’s we have welcomed Gracie Celyn Wildeand her mother Donna Vaughan and Isla Keeva Harvey. In the com-ing months there are other adults and children preparing for Bap-tism. Please pray for them as we pray for ourselves as we journeywith them on a road that is never straight and, very often, up hill.We travel the road together with Christ as our guide. The text above is on the first pages of the Baptism Service booklet –it may help you to reflect on your own faith journey which started atyour Baptism.

Parables(Mt 13: 1-51)

Secrets of the KingdomShared in stories,

Stories of seeds and sowers,Merchants and mustard seeds,

Treasure and nets let down in the lake.

Everyday stories,Eternal truths.

Eyes and ears open, blessed to see and hearThe secrets only faith can access.

Lord, grow our faith into understandingThat speaks your kingdom message today,

New and freshIn the parables of our lives.

St Peter’s PloddersJuly Walk.

Hills above Aberdyfi (4.5 miles) Saturday 5th July.

Meeting at St Peter’s Church at 09:30 hrs then driving to the CarPark opposite the cemetary 1 mile out of Aberdyfi on the Towynroad. We shall then walk up past the cemetary (lifts up to the top forthose requiring) the path from there continues inland towards Beard-ed Lake veering right back towards aberdyfi exiting by the OutwardBound. From there along the shore & beach eventually crossing theGolf Course and back to the car. (Packed lunch required)

Walking can be quite subjective, but I think the June walk in andaround Fairbourne & Barmouth was the best to date. The weatherwas glorious, we traveled by train, boat and feet, and on a day likethat the views could not be bettered anywhere in the world.

Nobody fell in the water or off the mountain and once again the com-pany was excellent. My lips are sealed as to who succumbed totemptation and had chips.
