Today, I Am Installed as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish

With great joy and with humility I will be installed as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish this weekend by Bishop Sullivan. I vivid-

ly remember that my first visit to Sacred Heart Church was as a lawyer over 20 years ago, to assist parishioners who needed legal help. Ever so gracious, Monsignor Doyle invited me for a tour of the Church and he described the renovations taking place and the various projects underway at the parish to as-sist the poor in South Camden. Now, to be standing in the same church and sanctuary as a priest, and to be installed as the pastor, is so very humbling. I thank Bishop Sullivan for entrusting to me this wonderful and historic parish. I accept this responsibility knowing that I am not alone, but am surrounded by so many faithful parishioners, amazing volunteers, and generous benefactors from throughout the diocese and beyond. Of course, we know the Sacred Heart Parish I first visited 20 years ago has changed. Sacred Heart is now enriched by incorporating the rich and faithful legacies of St. Bartholomew and St. Joan of Arc Churches. St. Bartholomew is the first church in all of New Jersey dedicated for the worship of Black Catholics. Their families faced many struggles and prejudice over the years, yet they remained faithful to our Catholic Faith and have enriched our parish and diocese with many blessings. St. Joan of Arc Church in its early years was the home of many shipbuilders who worked the ports of Camden. Now, St. Joan of Arc is the place of worship of a growing and faithful Hispanic community. I believe our one Parish of Sacred Heart, with our three distinct church communities, can become a model of inner-city worship. Together we wor-ship God and proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, together we serve the poor, together we love the Church and our Catholic Faith. We are one Church, one faith, one family, and we pray to conform our hearts to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Please pray for me and please know that I pray for you, our parish family, every day. Our Deepest Sympathy Our deepest sympathy to Francine Grabowski on the death of

her beloved brother, Nick Grabowski. He had a rough road of

cancer treatments, hospitalizations, and illness. He was only 62

years old. He died on Sunday, January 17, 2021. To his

spouse, Donna, and all the Grabowski’s, and to all who loved

him, our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace!

Give Peace a Chance Corner Peace is a precious gift, which must be promoted and

protected…Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence.

33-DAY CONSECRATION TO ST. JOSEPH

Pope Francis has dedicated this Church Year to St. Joseph. A wonderful way to enter into this year of St. Joseph is to pray the 33 Day Consecration to St. Joseph. I recommend the book Consecration to St. Joseph, by Father Donald H. Calloway, IC.

I read and prayed with this book last year. To complete the consecration to St. Joseph by his Feast Day of March 19

th, you should begin reading

by February 15 th

. (Of course, the 33 day Consecration can begin at any time). This is also another good opportunity to reflect together with zoom conference meetings, perhaps once a week leading up to consecration day? The book can be ordered through Amazon or similar book store platforms. Fr. Vince

The Parish Gospel Challenge

Matthew Chapters 8-14

This week we continue our journey through the Gospel of Matthew, and we read Chapters 8 through 14. Place yourself with Jesus and the disciples and imagine you are right there as the events unfold. How to feel? What do you see? What is Jesus saying to you this week?

Matthew Chapter 8 Reflection Questions: In this chapter we see the healing power of Jesus. How can Jesus heal you? Who can you bring to Jesus for healing? Do you have a “storm” in your life? Trust in Jesus and allow him to calm the storm.

Matthew Chapter 9 Reflection Questions: Jesus came to call sinners, like Matthew. Recognize your sinfulness and turn to Jesus, listen to him call you. How does Jesus show his compassion in this chapter? Is there a person in your life that needs your compassion and kindness?

Matthew Chapter 10 Reflection Questions: How can you continue the mission of the twelve in your life? Can you set time aside this week to say a prayer for vocations? What is the daily cross the Lord is asking you to carry?

Matthew Chapter 11 Question: How was John the Baptist convinced the Jesus was the Messiah? How do you feel when Jesus says: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest?” What burdens can you give to Jesus?

Matthew Chapter 12 Question: Do you treat the “Lord’s Day” as a special day for you and your family or is Sunday just another day? Is weekly Mass a priority for you? Can you invite someone to come back to church? Do you recognize that Satan is real? Pray for protection and strength in temptation.

Matthew Chapter 13 Question: This is a chapter with parables. In what ways can you keep the “soil” of your faith life fertile? Are there “weeds” and “rocks” that need to be removed?

Matthew Chapter 14 Question: Why do you think Herod was intrigued by John the Baptist? While on the water, Peter cried out “Lord, save me.” Think about the ways Jesus has held you by the hand and saved you. Bring your worry and your loved ones to Jesus in prayer and reach out your hand, allow Jesus to rescue you.

Hoy, Estoy Instalado como

Párroco de la Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón Con gran alegría y humildad seré instalado como Párroco de la

Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón este fin de semana por el Obispo Sullivan. Recuerdo vívidamente mi primera visita a la Iglesia de Sagrado Corazón fue como abogada hace más de 20 años, para ayudar a los feligreses que necesitaban ayuda legal. Muy amablemente, el Monseñor Doyle me invitó a un recorrido por la Igle-sia y me describió las renovaciones que se estaban llevando a cabo y los diversos proyectos en marcha en la Parroquia para ayudar a los pobres en South Camden. Ahora, estar en la misma Iglesia y santuario como un sacerdote, y ser instalado como Párroco, estoylleno de humildad. Agradezco al Obispo Sullivan por confiar-me esta maravillosa e histórica Parroquia. Acepto esta responsabilidad sabiendo que no estoy solo, sino que estoy rodeado de tantos fieles feligreses, increíbles vol-untarios y generosos benefactores de toda la Diócesis y más allá. Por supuesto, sabemos que la Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón que visité por primera vez hace 20 años ha cambiado. El Sagrado Corazón se enriquece ahora incorporando a los ricos y fieles legados de las Iglesias de San Bartoloméo y Santa Juana de Arco. San Bartoloméo es la primera Iglesia en todo Nueva Jersey dedicada al culto de los Católicos Afro-Americanos. Sus familias enfrentaron muchas luchas y prejuicios a lo largo de los años, sin embargo, permaneció fiel a nuestra fe Católica y ha enriquecido nuestra Parroquia y Diócesis con muchas bendiciones. Nuestro más sentido pésame a Francine Grabowski por la muer-te de su amado hermano, Nick Grabowski. Tuvo un camino difícil de tratamientos contra el cáncer, hospitalizaciones y enfermedades. Solo tenía 62 años. Murió el Domingo 17 de Enero 2021. Para su esposa, Donna, y todos los Grabowski, y para todos los que lo amaban, nuestro más sentido pésame. ¡Puede él descansar en paz!

El Papa Francisco ha dedicado este Año Eclesiástico a San José. Una manera maravillosa de entrar en este año de San José es rezar los 33 Días de Consagración a San Jo-sé. Recomiendo el libro Consagración a San José, por Padre Donald H. Calloway, IC. Leí

y oré con este libro el año pasado. Para completar la consagración a San José antes de su fiesta del 19 de Marzo, debe comenzar a leer antes del 15 de Febrero. (Por supuesto, el día 33 de la consagración puede comenzar en cualquier momento). Esta es también otra buena oportunidad para reflexionar junto con las reuniones de la conferencia zoom, ¿quizás una vez a la semana antes del día de la consagración?
