Once again the panel of judges had to make decisions on who will be the Carnival Queen and who will be the Senior Attendant.Every year I quietly wish them all well as it is not something you will make friends by making the wrong decision as it was again not an easy task with such a wonderful line up of lovely local girls.Again, I thank everyone involved in this difficult decision, as the line up ( if that is the correct expression to use ) were a lovely bunch of girls. How come we have so many lovely girls to choose from? Is it that all their parents are beautiful as well? Maybe they could run a most beautiful parent award. Please note the next issue of the Crab Tales will be announcing the winning Junior Attendants and the Prince and Princess as both of these events take place after our Copy Date.In the meantime may I wish both Hayley Massingham and Erin Holroyd a wonderful summeras members of the Carnival Royal Family doing their bit for a great Cromer Carnival.Lis & I had already seen the filmThe Boat That Rocked, but we both enjoyed seeing it once again at the Mundesley Village Cinema, especially with the ever lovely Sharon Louise singing such a great selection of 60s songs before they showed the film.

Whatever your opinions are about the European Union, please do notforget to get out and cast your voteon Thursday May 22nd. Polling stations will be open from 7am - 10pm on the day.We have listed the candidates along with their political parties in the order that they will appear on the voting list on Page 18. As there are so many candidates standing, it was impossible to give them enough space for their photos and statements.

    Enjoy Your Crab Tales

Dear Editor,I am pleased to see that the Labour Partys petition for later trains to & from Norwich in the evenings has reignited a debate on public transport here in North Norfolk.Over 500 people have now signed the petition at www.leavelater.info because they recognise both the benefits to passengers and to the local night-time economy. It is good to hear that Greater Anglia are considering timetable tweaks but we do not think this goes far enough. Many who have signed the petition would like to see trains run until midnight rather than the present 10.45pm time. We have heard from passengers who attend shows at Cromer Pier who also would like to see trains beyond 8pm on a Sunday evening.Passengers also want to see a better deal for those travelling to Worstead and Gunton.Passenger input should be crucial in deciding future rail contracts, and also when drawing up bus timetables in and out of the city too. By making these adjustments we will encourage more to give up their cars to use public transport.Jono ReadHolt

Dear Sir,How many visitors to Cromer this year will be aware of the illustrious history of its Pavilion Theatre? The Pavilion witnessed the last performance of the great actor-manager Sir Henry Irving. Having given a spellbound Cromer audience his To be, or not to be soliloquy, Irving sadly collapsed and died. It was most unfortunate, as he was actually playing Widow Twanky at the time.In the 1930s, George Formby was a regular favourite, with his trademark gap teeth and ukulele, but stunned everyone when, in 1975 he came out of retirement in Kinshasa to fight Muhammed Ali for the World Heavyweight title. The Pavilion also staged some great modernist productions. For instance, Samuel Becketts Happy Days with Sir Ralph Richardson in the leading role of the Fonz. For younger readers who may not know, the Fonz was the chap who freed the Squares.Yours SincerelyPhilip GrahamNR27 9HS

Dear Editor,On June 8th, I will be running my 100th official marathon, a trail marathon of 30 miles, called thePoppy line marathon, normally 26 miles but this year to celebrate the 30th year of the event, it will be extended to 30 miles taking in Felbriggpark, Holt Country park, Sheringham Park and the cliff tops from Weybourne to Sheringham.

I first started running in 2001 to lose some weightand did my first marathon in 2002 at London, and like most people said never again. I have chosen to use this to also raise money for Nelsons Journey, which is a registered charity providing a service for children & young people aged 0-17 years, living in Norfolk, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life such as a parent or sibling. Based in Norwich, they were founded in 1997, since which time they have helped hundreds of children.Donations can be made at my Virgin Money giving page at :http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/VinniePurdyThank you.Vinnie PurdyCromer

Dear Philip,The lead-in to the evening movie The Boat That Rocked at the Coronation Hall by the vibrant Sharons Giggins got those feet tapping & arms waving, albeit that some of the audience shocked by the scene inmovie when the young man is being introduced to the fruits of life on board his uncles ship! A superb nights entertainment was had by all many thanks to the Film Committee. Our journeys home however was a shock, as thefog that evening was a challenge, far too many drivers do not understand the importance of those Fog Lights in such driving conditions.Best wishesRobin SimmondsMundesley

Dear Mr Keddell,I have been a resident of Norfolk for 31years andhave lived in Trunch since 2001. I have always kept up to date with local matters through the Crab Tales & formerly the Crab Line.At the beginning of February this year a very close friend was diagnosed with Parkinsons at the age of 38. He is a happily married father of two. I was initially heartbroken for him and his family but also shocked as I had always thought of this as an Older persons illness.I started to think about what I could do to offer support, raise funds for an associated charity and awareness of the illness and just prior to hearing the news I had listened to our olympic triatheletes the Brownlee brothers on Radio 2 discussing their Triathlon series. The answer was clear, taking into consideration that I weighed just over 20 stone and I decidedit would be a great idea to enroll in the the full Sprint triathlon at the Southern leg at Petworth house on June 15th of this year in aid of the Cure Parkinsons trust. For those who dont know, a sprint triathlon consists of : 750 metre open water swim.29.5km cycle & a 5 km run. I am also a musician and have decided to put thistalent to good use by putting on an evening of Acoustic music at the Vernon Arms in Southreppson Friday the 30th May from 8.30pm onwards. The evening is entitled Stripped for 2 reasons. All the music will be stripped back versions of songs old & new, just me and my acoustic guitar. The 2nd reason is that I will be subjecting myselfto a sponsered upper body waxing and people will be able to Sponsor a song.To support me, please visit my Just Giving page at: http://www.justgiving.com/owner-email/update/Adrian-Cockburn1There are also sponsorship forms & collection boxes at Trunch Stores and the Vernon Arms.If anyone would like to know more about the illness or work that the Cure Parkinsons trust do, they can visit www.cureparkinsons.org.ukThanks very much in advance for any support you can give in publicising my events.Kind RegardsAdrian Cockburn. Dear Mr Keddell,Re: Adam Masters letter in the Crab Tales Issue 031- 28th Feb - 13th March. My son Tom went to Tanzania four years ago on a similar fund raising expedition only his group was to climb Kilimanjaro.Tom could not climb the mountain due to his epilepsy, so remained the whole time with the people of Moshi. He fell in love with these simple, loving folk, especially one young lady and they in turn fell in love with him.Sadly Toms journey took him home to heaven six weeks after his return from Tanzania. He was much mourned by the local people thereand a plaque was erected on the wall of the school and a tree planted in his memory.

Little Larry...... .....attended a horse auction with his father. He watched as his father moved from horse tohorse, running his hands up & down the horse's legs and rump, and chest. After a few minutes, Larry asked: 'Dad, whyare you doing that?' His father replied: 'Because when I'm buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy. Larry, looking worried, said: 'Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom ....'

Thanks to Ingrid Campbell for this.

    Trimingham Dog Show

Saturday April 19th was the day ear-marked for the Trimingham Dog Show, held on the same field that in the not to distant future will be the location of the new Trimingham Parish Hall, all going well in the very near future.Liz King, (Pictured on Left) was organising everything which in turn produced a healthy turn out of both people and dogs to make a very successful event out of the day.You name it the dogs in favour sizes and shapes turned out to pit their charm, their abilty, and their looks against all of the other hounds to walk/ trot off with their well deserved prizes.

Liz told me after the Show: Over 70 dogs entered for the show and we raised over 250 for the Hall fund, not so much profit as usual but we had capital expenditure of a barbeque & extra gas appliances to provide lots of lovely cups of tea/coffee at just 50p for this event and the rest of the events on the field throughout 2014Pictured (On Right) was Natalie McAll from the Miramar Veterinary Practice who judged the entrants to decide which dogs trotted off with a rosette, or not, as the case may beFrom what I could see, every dog, and their owners had a great day of fun and all of them seemed to be enjoying the day very much.

Tom was a writer, studying language and linguis-tics at York University and wrote a few beautiful notes about his time in Tanzania. He called it Climbing Mountains acknowled-ging the fact that the people there, in their poverty had far steeper mountains to climb than Kilimanjaro.Adam might find the notes interesting and there are also some photos. Two of my daughters and my grandson went to Tanzania for the tree planting etc and Adam might like to speak to them about the country and the people.I write and have printed poetry books, childrens stories and small booklets on various subjects.Adam would be welcome to as many as he wantsto sell to help him with his fund raising efforts.I would be grateful if you could either forward this to Adam or give him my contact details.Thank you for taking the time to read it.Yours sincerelyJenny WhybrowWeybourne

ABBA Doing Their Routine On The PierHaving run a competition in issue 029 of the Crab Tales for the promoters of Thank You For The Music, Lis and I were also given a couple of free tickets to the show.

So on Sunday April 20th, we joined many otherABBA fans at the Pier Pavilion in Cromer. As a long standing fan of the original SwedishGroup, I really enjoyed this tribute, look alike

group, doing their routine on the Pier, as did it seems everyone else who joined in the fun with a great deal of enthusiasm. The Pavilion Theatre was packed with a turn out totalling around 90% of the seats taken. It was a most enjoyable show, with everyone waving their arms or singing and dancing along to the songs.

In our next issue The Crab Tales will be running another competition for a pair of tickets to see Viva la Drag ! with special guest Sam Buttery of BBC1s The Voice on Sunday 6th July, at the Cromer Pier Pavilion. PK.

It may not have been St Georges Day, but Sunday 27th, was near enough to stage a very successful car rally for the North Norfolk Classic Car Rally.Along with at least 250 cars I drove myself to Sheringham Station car park in my 1960 VWKubelwagen and had a most enjoyable day onthe road to Old Buckenham Airfield and back via Norwich. A total, if I had not got lost of some 45.8 miles there and back. I am in no doubt that I clocked up around 110 miles in total, despite following one particular car most of the way.It was a brilliantly organised day with all the cars being flagged off by the Town Crier and Mayor Of Sheringham. (Below)

Thanks to Matt Boyers, who runs Boyers, my car was fit for purpose and did not break down thank goodness. (Below & Above on Right)

From old Rolls, Minis, MGs - you name it they were all there, along with their proud Owners

They purchased a lovely picture of the Cromer Pier with a bright sunset. There were some good paintings on sale with of course a few pretty dreadful pictures.Otherwise, as far as I could see, in the half hour that I was there, there was some keen interest being shown in the show.Their next exhibition will be in Garden Street, in Cromer in September this year. PK

The exhibition was of work done by several of their members and while I was there I met a couple from Mundesley, who had seen about the exhibition in the Crab Tales.

    Life On The Open Road

and drivers all having a great day indeed as they set out.

This is the first time I have ever been involved in such a car rally, which I enjoyed a great deal. Most of the drivers of soft top cars put their roofs down, but I did not as I felt far from warm. The whole event was to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which at 5 to enter a carmust have raised a fair few pounds. For further information visit the Nth Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club Website: www.nncvc.org.ukThank You organisers, for a great day out.

All On Sale In East RuntonAs advertised in the Crab Tales, so I decided it was time to pay a visit to an exhibition of workby the Cromer and District Art Group in East Runton Village Hall, where this group of 28 artists usually meet every week, except during May to September.Run over the long weekend of Easter, members took it in turns to be in the Village Hall during the opening days that ran from Good Friday until Easter Sunday.Sue Axton & Ann Dean, the ladies pictured on the Far Right were on duty that day from noon until 2 pm.

before this now well known film The Boat That Rocked. was shown to all of the jolly film goers. This was indeed a great film that depicted the era of the time brilliantly.A film I would very happily recommend to our readers to take out from their local library.I was pleased to see, before the credits at the endof the film that there are now, 50 years on, a much larger number of radio stations that continue to play pop music. It was a great evening enjoyed by all,so I wouldlike to thank Micky & Sharon very much. With a good crowd of those who remembered listening to the radio stations of the time, Sharon sang a number of great songs like:Be My Baby Now. Build Me Up Buttercup.Youre Just Too Good To Be True. Downtown.Do You Love Me. Dream A Little Dream. and many more. With many of the audience joining in on the songs, it was a great evening, even

Readers of the Crab Tales were reminded of this wonderful radio station, back in the 60s, by an article in Issue 033, by Micky Peters, comemorating the launch of Radio Caroline Fifty years ago.Following up the article, Micky decided, along with The Mundesley Film Committee to show the film at the Coronation Hall on Thursday April 24th, along with Sharon Louise singingmany of the hits that were broadcast on the Pirate Radio Stations at the time.Sharon is pictured below, before the evening kicked off with her performance.

To Celebrate..... ....Their 50th Anniversary (1964-2014)

The Sheringham Players go On The Razzleto celebrate their Golden Anniversary by staging Tom Stoppards masterpiece.

Director June Cooper together with Julian Highwill direct this fabulously funny and clever play.

In 1964, June Cooper joined other enthusiastic actors to form The Sheringham Players, the picture above is taken from a production of Blithe Spirit. Since then the group has grown and strengthened. Their constant aim has always been to entertain local audiences - without whose loyal support The Sheringham Players would not have survived ... so a big THANK YOU ! On The Razzle Tom Stoppards farce consists of 2 hours of slapstick, shenanigans, mistaken identities, misdirected orders, malapropisms, double entendres and romantic complications. Set in Vienna in the 1880s packed full of laughter, this is an unmissable production.

The Sheringham Players warmly invites you to celebrate their 50 years of theatre. WED. 11th JUNE to SAT. 14th JUNE 7.30pm at Sheringham Little Theatre.Tickets 10 (Including Souvenir Programme) Available @ The Box Office Sheringham Little Theatre.Tel 01263 822 347 Or See Their Website For More Details

The Black WidowsI had never met the local author Jane Finch, from Bacton, before she gave me her second book for me to read and put a review into the Crab Tales. It is not something I consider doing very often as I am afraid of what I will be able to write if I really do not enjoy reading the book. However I have to say that despite its odd start I found myself really getting into the book and found that I had read it within less than a day. Not bad considering it has 180 pages. The story is about three ladies from different backgrounds, brought together by their determination to make a fortune from their unsuspecting husbands. Carefully selected, the me are lured into the widows trap, completely beguiled, until their ultimate disposal. The women meet regularly to discuss their progress and compare notes on

new methods of termination. It seems they are invincible. A journey back in time gives the reader an insight into the womens past and the reasons for their determination to seek revenge on the men they marry.About the author : Jane worked for thirty years in English Law, who after taking early retirement is now a Snowbird, living in Spain in the winter and Norfolk in the summers. Jane has written a number of childrens books this is her second adult novel.Beware the apple crumble!Jane Finch reflects on the amusing results for her research on The Black Widows. You know when you search for something on Google and then mysterious adverts appear on those very products? Imagine if you have been searching for poisons, effects of various lethal substances on the body, and famous women murderers. My husband was seriously worried! The Black Widows is published as an ebook and in paperback and is available from Amazon The ISBN number is 9781497300293.It is, in simple terms, a good read and if asked to score it out of ten I would give it an eight. Now A Hotel

Over the last few months The Ship Inn has become once again a hotel with George spending a great deal of money to turn this long established Public House back into a proper hotel.

They now have letting rooms once again, as they used to have back in the early 1990s.

The popular Mundesley Ship Inn now caters for everyone with their clean and simple, tastefully furnished rooms as it was in 1900 when it was known as The Old Ship Hotel (see Left). Rooms for a weekend break cost around 65 per room.I wish George and his team at The Ship, all the very best. PK

Intestacy RulesWritten by Adele Moore Trainee Solicitor with Hayes + StorrWhy should I make a Will, I do not have anything to leave? This is a question most people will ask at some point in their lifetime. Often people are worth more dead than alive, in terms of life policies and pension funds falling in.If you die without a Will the intestacy rules take effect. These are rules which are set down by law detailing who is to benefit from your estate. If somebody dies intestate whilst married with children, they may think their entire estate will pass to their surviving spouse. However, only the first 250,000 passes to yourspouse absolutely. The remainder of the estate will be divided into two parts. The first part will be a life interest for your surviving spouse and the other half will be split equally between your children when they attain the age of eighteen.Generally, a married couple with children will wish on the first death for their entire estate to pass to their spouse and only on the second death is it to pass to the children. If you die intestate with children and are not married or in a civil partnership, the entire estate will pass to the children in equal shares. This will include estranged children. Therefore, even if you have a child who you do not see, they will still be entitled to an equal share in your estate. The intestacy rules do not favour cohabiting couples. If you are not married or in a civil partnership and die intestate your partner will not be entitled to any of your estate. If you have children, again your children will benefit and you may hope they would provide for your partner but this is not always the case. If you want your partner to benefit you have to make a Will. If you do not have children your estate will pass to other family members.*If you have made a Will you get to choose who will be responsible for the administration of the estate, your Executors. If you die intestate, your estates administrators are selected from the beneficiaries, who might

not be individuals who would get on or are competent to do the job. If any child is under eighteen or the surviving spouse is entitled to a life interest in part of the estate, then there have to be two administrators. Sometimes circumstances are such that two, eligible potential administrators are not available.

Below is an example of a simple intestate estate.Mr & Mrs X have assets worth 1,000,000, 500,000 in Mr Xs name and 500,000 in Mrs Xs and no Will. Mr X has two children from a previous marriage who he no longer sees. There are three children of the current marriage. Mr X dies. Mrs X would inherit 250,000 plus a life interest in 125,000. The remaining 125,000 would be split between the five children, each receiving 25,000. Mr X had not had contact with his two children for 20 years and therefore the estate had to bear the cost of locating them. This would reduce the shares the children receive and the life interest. One of the major issues when someone dies intestate is the cost of locating beneficiaries. In the above examples, it may be easy to locate all the children. But in situations where someone dies intestate with no children and their spouse has predeceased them, the cost of tracking beneficiaries can take up a large proportion of the estate. *Please see our next article in issue 038: Intestacy rules no immediate family. This article aims to supply general information, but it is not intended to constitute advice. Every effort is made to ensure that the law referred to is correct at the date of publication and to avoid any statement which may mislead. Alex Salmond... ...was visiting a Scottish primary school and theclass was discussing words and their meanings. The teacher asked Mr. Salmond if he would like to lead the discussion on the word Tragedy. So the illustrious SNP leader asked the class for an example of a Tragedy.A little boy stood up and offered: If ma best freen, wha lives on a ferm, is playin in the field and a tractor rins ower him and kills him, that wid be a tragedy.Incorrect, said Alex, in his best trying-not-to-sound-too- patronising-Scottish-accent, That would be an accident.A little girl then raised her hand: If a school bus kerryin fifty children drove owr a cliff, killing abody inside, that wid be a tragedyIm afraid not, explained Alex, thats what we would refer to as a great loss. The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Alex searched the room.Isnt there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy? Finally, at the back of the room, a wee lad raised his hand and, in a quiet voice, said: If a plane kerryin you and your deputy wiz struck by a freendly fire missile & blawn tae smithereens, that wid be a tragedy.Fantastic! exclaimed Alex, and can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?Weel, says the lad, it has tae be a tragedy, because it certainly widnae be a great loss, & it probably widnae be an accident either!

Thanks to Russell Sparkes for this.
