    concerns.

cently a long time client rom Chicago, Mrs.asked: “What is with the smart meters

omEd is pushing, and how do they work?”

uh. Even though most o us have them atme and or us - a new one in the office - Idn’t put a lot o thought into it. So or Mrs.and the rest o the Cozy Newsletter readersdecided to do some research and report

    hat we ound.

eviously, utilities had their employeeskking though yards measuring how muchctricity was used by looking at a spinning

al on a meter and clocking how ast it wastating. (You can view this on Youube iu are bored and want to learn more abouts old school method). With smart meters,

gital, real time readings are possible. Tearketing is that with that inormation, com-ring your usage to that o your neighbors issily available, and ComEd could send outters with their tips to make better use our power dollars and co-incidentally, help usshare in saving the planet.

e real advantage? Te cynic in all o us sus-cts that the utility company benefits most.e grids and technology currently in place are

d, and electric companies such as ComEd areoking or ways to cut their costs in updates, pairs, and operations. Te cheapest andmplest way to do this is to ease pressure one system by attempting to curb consumermand.

    K. We could blab on and on about utilityofits and their bottom line and concede theyve a lot o challenges. Instead, we want to

How to solve: To solve a Sudoku, you only need logic and patience. No math is required. Simply make sure that each 3x3square region has a number between 1-9 with only

one occurrence of each number. Each column and rowof the large grid may only have one instance of 1-9.

    Sorry or the paraphrase, Mama’s

    d Papa’s. Merely our way o bringing

your attention that air conditioning sea-

n is quickly approaching. At Corcor-

    Heating and Air Conditioning, we

ve already begun maintenance on our

mmercial and restaurant clients. We’reking a moment here to clue everyone in

what we might be discussing during

ese visits, and offering some general tips

    r the upcoming months.

First.  An insider tip: be proactive

    maximizing your systems’ efficiency.

uring hot days, start your air conditioner

rlier as it takes, on average, about one

ur to lower indoor temperature by one

gree. Help move things along by closing

nds during sunlight hours.Secondly  – simple! Keep your

    ters clean. Change them regularly.

    Tird. During a maintenance

sit our technician’s may talk to you about

ur contactors. Tese are located on

ndensing units (outside) and are what

ows the power rom your house to travel

to that piece o your system and allow it

run. Over time, contactors take abuse

om starting and stopping, and rom

e weather. Units running – or trying– in storms may chatter and ultimately

se closed. We check the “points” on the

ntactors and i we see issues or prob-

    ms, the technician may recommend

replacement. Tis is a lot more convenient

to have done during maintenance than

during the hot night, weekend, or storm

    when they tend to ail.

      Fourth.  Our technician may

    mention something about the condition

o your starting or run capacitors. Tese

components are used to transer necessary

electricity to the motors and compressors.

Capacitors can be weakened over timeand ultimately ail. Again – much easier

to replace during maintenance than in an

    emergency.

Fifh.  Te benefits o a hard start

kit. It is recommended and used with

    almost all residential condensing units.

When a condensing unit cranks up it uses

a lot o electricity and starting power. Tis

procedure can have a negative effect on

the lie o your equipment. Use o a hard

starter kit relieves strain on your system’s

    components.

Tis last one, the sixth – takes a

little longer as there are different issues to

    discuss, and misconceptions to dispel.

     Contest Corne

    Rerigerant systems are hermetically

sealed and should not leak, but i they

it is typically at a mechanical weld or

In some cases, this is obvious and eas

fixed. In others, locating the leak is a

jor project! But a leaking system will

ways leak and constantly need rerige

(be it R-22 Freon or R-410a rerigeran

    not corrected. Especially troublesom

expensive will be i your system still u

R-22 or Freon as the cost per pound

risen due to newer regulations and ca

    production.

It is also possible, i you do n

    rerigerant, the last company servicin

your unit may not have been up to da

with the latest tools and changing tec

    niques. We are.

      alk to your technician durin

    maintenance calls. We’re equipped to

dle challenges and hope that no one h

spend one penny more than necessar

maintain a happy and healthy air con

    tioning system all summer long!

    Directions:Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F.

Rub the garlic with the olive oil and place the

heads, cut-side up, in a small saute pan or bak-

ing dish that’s just large enough to hold the garlic

comfortably. Season the garlic with the salt and

pepper and add the stock/water to the saute

pan. Place the saute pan in the oven and roast

for about 30 minutes, or until the garlic is golden

brown on the top and the cloves can be pierced

easily with the tip of a sharp paring knife. Remove

the chang dish from the oven and allow the garlic

to cool. When the garlic is cool enough to handle,

squeeze the roasted garlic out from the skins.

Serve with slices of French bread and garnish with

    chopped parsley.

it April already? Well, believe it or not, it is,spite what the weather is trying to tell us.we ramp up here in anticipation o busy

mmer months, I like to stop and give myselmental check-up beore the craziness o cool-g season is upon us. As part o the check-up,ave been thinking a lot about thought. Hownic.

first I’ll ask you the same I’ve asked aboutysel. What are you thinking about? You

ow, the brain works 24/7 and it is import-t to use part o it to determine what’s worthnking about, because what you’re spending

at time on determines things like whetheru are calm or anxious, creative or unin-ired, motivated or unproductive.

hat is the quality o lie you hope or?wareness creates choice so be prepared tok some basic questions. How do you eelwhat do you want in the moment? Whichople or situations make you eel great – ornversely – drain the lie out o you? It is

lack o awareness that keeps us rom makingthe changes we want or our emotional and

physical health, success, eating habits, and lie-styles. As awareness increases, brain patternswill change. Tis change will have a prooundeffect on your lie. It is important to be awareo what is going on not only externally, but in-side you. Once you’re aware and have a choice,go or what serves you and drop what doesn’t.

One change considered especially effective isto get out and enjoy nature. Tat alone mayhelp ocus on clearer thinking. Tose aremy “pearls o wisdom” or “two cents” or thismonth!

Afer giving you my two cents, I would love toask or yours! As a way or us to better our-selves we would love it i you could take a min-ute and review how our techs are doing. Sureit makes us eel better when you send us yourkind words, but we also use the provided eed-back to help improve our company and betterour service to you. We would not be here orthirty two years i we were not improving ourprocesses and practices. o make the eedbackeasy or you, please check the links provided inthis section.
