Electronic Research Global trend towards electronic research because of:

Time pressure Increasingly difficult to get respondents to attend or participate in conventional research Cost of recruitment, fieldworkers etc

Globally the Internet is now replacing many conventional quant and qual methodologies In South Africa we are experiencing similar problems, as well as:

Increased concerns with personal security – people are much quicker to slam down the phone or refuse to open a door Crime (people being held up or hi-jacked at focus groups) Increased inaccessibility – to people and certain areas like townships and rural areas

BUT penetration of PCs and extensive Internet usage is still very low in SA

Electronic Research However, cellphone penetration is high & usage of text

messaging as a means of communication is extremely high (cost advantages).

This makes Cell phones an ideal research vehicle in SA. Research via cell phone by no means replaces

conventional qual and quant methodologies, but it does lend itself to a large and very diverse range of research opportunities, especially for: Smaller budgets (due to budget cuts or for smaller

companies) Smaller projects (that need research but can’t justify a full

qual or quant study) Ad hoc questions (especially those that require quick

answers)

Methodology The methodology allows for 3 – 5 (max.) questions per project Questions can be open or closed USSD, SMS, .mobi all available depending on questions & consumer profile Open questions must consider the nature of the research ie. respondents cannot be expected to give long and detailed opinions. The methodology is ideal for clients who have existing databases For those without databases, recruitment is conducted

Costs Please note that the following costs are applicable for those clients who have a profiled database and are a rough guideline only - costs will vary from project to project.

For 200 respondents: 3 closed questions – R 43 600 (excl VAT) 3 open questions – R 53 000 (excl VAT) 5 closed questions – R 56 000 (excl VAT)

For 500 respondents: 3 closed questions – R 74 500 (excl VAT) 3 open questions – R 98 000 (excl VAT) 5 closed questions – R 105 000 (excl VAT)

1998-2007 Marketing Director on Skin and Laundry categories and Marketing Director new Business Development responsible for launching Omo Dry Cleaning in SA.

BioScience 2007-2008 Appointed to the Board of a listed wellness company, to revive the brands and

develop a business strategy to return the business to profitability. Part of the team to relaunch the business as Bioscience Brands Ltd and acquire 2 additional brands – Bioharmony and Muscle Science, that enabled the business to relist on the JSE AltX, now trading profitably.
