He was introduced by the acting headmaster Kevin Lee and The Rev. Rosie Bunn and spoke to the whole school at a special assembly talking on the subject of “Trees”. After the service representatives from all classes and visitors went first to the school field where Bishop Alan planted a tree in recognition of his visit before the group moved on to the churchyard where the pupils planted a second tree, this time assisted by the Bishop. The idea of planting two trees was to signify the link between church and school. The event closed with Bishop Alan saying a brief prayer before the guests adjourned to the school staff room for refreshments and an informal talk. Mr Lee said “We were both honoured and delighted to welcome the Bishop. The relationship between the church and school is a very special one and we felt that the planting of two trees would symbolise this. Both the children and staff really enjoyed the occasion.” Bishop Alan then went on to his second appointment with the Rector to visit Burgh Castle Church and see the current restoration work. FREE TASTER SESSION FOR MINDFULNESS FOR STRESS COURSESaturday 28th February 11.00am – 1.00pm @ St Olaves Village Hall, NR31 9HJ

You are welcome to come along to this FREE session to see if this is the course for you. We all can benefit from the toolkit of skills to manage everyday life and do not have to be extremely stressed to benefit. Visit www.mindfullifeeast.org.uk for testimonials of how this helps people’s lives after doing the course. The NEW DATES for this eight week course are March 12th – May 14th (6.30 -9.00pm) (no sessions on April 2nd & 9th).

We can’t always choose what happens to us Or how other people behave, but we can learn to

have more choice in how we respond to life’s events.

With a regular Mindfulness practice, you can create a greater sense of wellbeing, by experiencing a healthy balance between the being and doing aspects of our lives. Our culture is often lived at a very busy pace and we lose sight of how to take better care of ourselves.By developing a new relationship with situations we find ourselves in we begin to respond creatively: experiences don’t overwhelm us and we can remain steady through life’s ups and downs.Mindfulness is developing a warm, gentle, and kind awareness for ourselves and others, like mindfulness, kindness has been scientifically proven to reduce levels of stress. The mindfulness for stress course is for everyday experiences of stress and is not suitable for people experiencing deep rooted depression. Please feel free to confidentially discuss your situation with me to decide if this is the right course for you on 07557 141869 or e-mail [email protected]. This course is for anyone experiencing day to day stress, or wanting to learn strategies to deal with the general complexity and pace of life.If you are interested in me doing a “taster session” in your workplace, please get in touch.

    Village Voice - March 2015

Scotland will continue to dominate the political sceneAnyone assuming the result of the Scottish Independence Referendum would put an end to the matter was mistaken. Although Scots overwhelmingly backed remaining part of the United Kingdom, all things Scottish will continue dominating the political scene. We have a Nationalist government in Edinburgh saying their MP’s will now meddle in debates and votes on exclusively English matters. So, we could soon see someone from Glasgow Govan telling us how we should spend money on GP practices and the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth. Or a politician from Greenock meddling in how we tax businesses in Gorleston. That’s unfair, and an unnecessary interference in English matters. It’s made even worse when Scottish MPs, don’t have any say over a whole raft of issues in their own constituency, which are all decided by the Scottish Parliament. Effectively, the Scottish Nationalists plan to hold a possible Labour Government to ransom.

That’s why I am backing the new plans, announced by William Hague, which would introduce “English Votes for English Laws.” This means only English MPs would decide the details of new laws effecting their constituencies, and they would have the right to veto anything they don’t like, including decisions on taxes. It’s a sensible approach, which I hope the other political parties will accept is the right approach.

Good news, good newsA recent programme on BBC Radio discussed how listeners wanted more good news items, instead of the normal diet of death and destruction. They didn’t want the fluffy feel-good, slightly tongue-in-cheek features after the words, “…and finally,” but genuine good news.

So to end this month’s column three quick items of good news from me. Unemployment continues to fall, it’s been cut by over a third since the last General Election, meaning there are more jobs available for local people. And for those in work and paying taxes there’s more good news on the horizon, when next month the personal tax-free allowance increases to £10,500, meaning you can keep more of your money instead of giving it straight back to the government. And finally, last year we saw local colleges benefit from extra investment allowing them to improve facilities for students. Now more schools are in line for additional funding as a multi-billion pound package will improve school buildings over the next few years. Despite all the worries in the world, there is good news out there!

DOWN THE GARDEN PATHWe are told that ‘all good things are worth waiting for’ and indeed this was so when we visited the ten acre site of our seed and plug suppliers in July of last year. It was incredibly hot, the glasshouses were unbearable and the site was sissling in the heat. However it was a good test not only of our endurance but of those of the plants on view as well! Each year new varieties come onto the market and a few are withdrawn due either to the varieties succumbing to disease or to just lack of interest by the general public.

Here are a few of the new varieties that caught our eye and we would recommend. These are available this year.

Million Kisses The most vigorous trailing begonia on the market has new colours added Blissful, blush white flowers with pink margins and Embrace which is a clear bright pink. They are all easy to grow with better branching (no need to pinch to encourage growth.) They exhibit many large flowers with continual flowering from April to October. Million Kisses performs best in partial to full shade in areas with low humidity.

Verbena Endura beats them all for Summer production – it takes the heat and stays in flower longer! The first verbena that’s hardy to the low teens and reblooms in Spring. Endura Scape revs up the colour with seven high-octane varieties. Superior branching: Finished product has full habit with high bloom count in large containers or excellent as a ground cover. Height 20-30 cm and spread 45-60 cm. Excellent powdery mildew resistance: Available in Blue, Dark Purple, Hot Pink, Lava Red, Lavender, Purple, White Blush. Because of its vigour in our view it is not suitable to grow in mixed baskets or containers, use Verbena Aztec for this purpose.

Bidens Golden Eye with unique single ivory white flowers with a distinct inner circle of golden yellow was magnificent Height and spread 25-30cm. It looked especially good with the sun shining full on it.

Double Petunias continue to be popular. Damson Ripple purple red and white bi-coloured and Rapaella a dusty pink are new varieties this season.

New to us is the perennial Poppy (Papaver) Manhattan Lavender-rose flowers on extra strong stems and Poppy (Papaver) ‘Snow Goose’ Large, frilled, semi-double off-white flowers with purple-pink blotches a top variety. Poppies love our sandy soil both grow to 60cm. and are hardy.

Echinacea (Coneflower) of the daisy family one of the backbones of the flower border ‘PowWow White’ as it’s name suggests has pure white petals overlapping a golden-yellow cone. ‘PowWow Wild Berry’ Has large daisy flowers with magenta-pink petals surrounding an orange-brown central cone. Very hardy. Height. 50-60cm.

These are just a few of what is available this coming season. Enjoy your gardening.

ARCHIE MAKES A COFFIN SLABThe boss felt that Archie was competent enough to carry out small jobs on his own, so he was asked to make a frame in

the shape of a coffin that had been made by the head joiner.

Mrs Brown was already in her eternal residence inside her coffin, which was being kept in the shed under the first floor joiners shop. Archie found Snatch and asked him to assist with measuring the coffin as he didn’t feel brave enough to do it on his own.

Archie took the measurements off the lid of the coffin and made up a frame which would act as shuttering to form a concrete slab for the top of the coffin. This was because it would eventually become a double grave as Mr Brown was still about! Upon his demise, the gravedigger would dig down to the slab and know when to stop.

Archie went about the job with his usual enthusiasm and asked Roy for his advice, Roy told Archie to make up his frame in two-by-two placing it on the storeshed floor and then using a concrete mix of two parts ballast and one part cement, he then told him that when the frame was half filled with the concrete he should place reinforcing wire over the area, then proceed to fill the shuttering to the top, knocking the sides of the frame to vibrate the mix. Archie carried out Roys instructions to the letter and trowel finished the slab.

In those days, only 40 years ago, building firms produced windows, stairs, carried out earth moving, groundwork, brickwork, general joinery, plumbing, lead work and stained glass windows to name but a few, undertaking was also a sideline.

Mrs Browns funeral was only two days away, the hearse was polished and the undertaking operatives of the firm pressed their clothes and brushed their long black mourning coats. Ronnie, a yard foreman, went to the store shed to lift the coffin slab that Archie had made but found it firmly stuck to the floor. With the help of Maurice, Ronnie tried to prise it from its steadfast position, but to no avail and they had to resort to Waffy breaking up the slab with a compressor and pneumatic breaker.

It was discovered that Archie had forgotten to lay the slab on a polythene membrane so the slab had stuck to the floor like super-glue. Roy was called in at a minutes notice to prepare another slab and he had great delight in telling Ronnie, the yard foreman and Dick the general foreman how useless Archie was. “Thanks Roy” Archie thought, as Roy had failed to tell him that he needed a piece of plastic to separate the slab from the floor.

COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 3RDNine Parish Councillors, County Councillor Colin Aldred, Borough Councillor Adrian Myers and five members of the public attended the first Frebruary meeting of Belton with Browston Parish Council, John Rudrum was in the chair.A group of Stepshort residents were present to raise concerns over mud on the road and speeding lorries going past their properties, it was agreed to write to the main company concerned and send copies to the police and the new relief road site management.Members were advised that the new Parish Council web site is up and running although there are still other items to add to bring it up to the intended level, it can be found at www.beltonwithbrowston.norfolkparishes.gov.uk/ . Councillor Myers reported that there could be problems with sewage disposal at the new development at Browston Corner, Anglian Water have advised of near capacity at their Bradwell pumping station so the vast number of the

properties will need to have their sewage connected to alternative disposal means through Gorleston. The Councillor also reported that he is still trying to get various trailers removed from the highways and looking at different forms of legislation that have a precedent for this purpose, he was aware of problems on Heather Road and Sandy Lane and another situation in Rosedale Gardens was brought to his attention.Members were pleased to hear that the County Council had agreed to the Parish Councils request for a reduction in the speed limit on Browston Lane from 40 to 30MPH, this after a letter from a local business, the County will put plans for the change into motion. There was one new planning application, a replacement garage with living accommodation above for 35 St. James Crescent – members raised no objections to this subject to neighbours views. Approved by the Borough was a two story extension at 47 Provan Crescent and the local health authority has given its consent for the St. Johns Road Pharmacy to relocate to the vacant supermarket site on Station Road North.

    ENTUALOCAL BUS AND RAIL INFORMATION

ENTUA(East Norfolk Transport Users Association) is a voluntary independent body which monitors bus and rail provision in the East Norfolk Area. Please visit our web site www.entua.org.uk/

In the December issue we mentioned that First Eastern Counties are reviewing their bus services in the Great Yarmouth area and that ENTUA and the bus company had met to discuss various opportunities that may exist to introduce new services.

We invited Village Voice readers to put forward ideas that you may have regarding this, but to date, we have not received any. ENTUA have put forward suggestions regarding enhancing services for Burgh Castle and a direct service to the James Paget Hospital via the new A12/A143 link road when it is completed. We have also put forward our ideas for a service to Gapton Hall Retail Park from Gorleston and Great Yarmouth, but we would like to hear from Village Voice readers prior to any suggestions being finalised.

Once again, ENTUA have raised the matter of the Gorleston Feathers bus stop shelter with Great Yarmouth Borough Council. This bus stop is a very busy interchange for passengers and the shelter is clearly ̀ not fit for purpose .̀ It is too small for the numbers waiting for buses and especially in bad weather and we feel that this shelter needs to be at least double the size of the existing one. Great Yarmouth Borough Council quoted a cost in the region of £17,000 to do this work in their first response to us, but we feel sure that there are funds available at County Council level for this typeof infrastructure. Nevertheless we shall pursue this matter as we feel that providing the proper infrastructure goes hand in hand with encouraging better use of public transport.

There has been a change of management at Anglian Buses at its Beccles Ellough depot. When the new manager has settled in, ENTUA officers will arrange a meeting. Hopefully we will continue to maintain a close association with Anglian Buses as we do with First Eastern Counties and Abellio Greater Anglia. If any passengers or prospective passengers have any matters that you would like ENTUA to raise at our regular meetings, please write to us at the address below.

Just a reminder that there are at least six buses per hour between Lowestoft/Gorleston/Great Yarmouth and Norwich (3 x Anglian and 3 First Eastern Counties Monday – Saturday)Anglian buses service 61 operates (every 20 minutes) between Kessingland and Great Yarmouth, where there is a change of number to 7 (you stay on the bus) this service calls at Acle, Broadland Business Park, Norwich Rail Station,Castle Meadow and Norwich Bus Station. Note - Every third bus going in the Kessingland direction carries on to Southwold.

First Eastern Counties service X1 operates (every 20 minutes) between Lowestoft bus station to Great Yarmouth via Gorleston (stopping at all bus stops when requested) then Acle and direct to Norwich Bus Station . Mondays – Fridays, additional X1s operate between James Paget Hospital –Norwich at peak times.

We welcome additional members, in fact without an increase in membership, ENTUA may find it difficult to continue. We have had recent expense of a replacement copier and we need to have more leaflets printed. The more members we have, the more the cost is spread. We ask for a minimum donation of £5.00 (some members pay more) and that generally covers the cost of printing/postage of our quarterly newsletter and the cost of public meetings. To join please write to ENTUA, 18 Wensum Way, Belton, NR31 9NY.

    Tony Grice.

GRANT FUNDING FOR COASTAL RADIOSimon Jones, founding Director of Coastal Radio Great Yarmouth, announced recently that Coastal has received a grant of just under £10,000 from The Big Lottery through Awards for All England, who offer grants of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that improve communities. The grant will enable the station to set up a purpose-built studio for its broadcasts and train local people in a variety of roles including presenting, production, administration and fundraising. The station is keen to work with local schools and colleges and offer on-job training for individuals from all sectors of the community and all abilities. Coastal will be based in the Great Yarmouth area and transmit from the heart of Great Yarmouth.

Coastal has been active in the community for several years and engaged local people and businesses over two successful FM and online broadcasts, each lasting three to four weeks. During these broadcasts, more than thirty people were trained for a range of jobs and during its off-air periods, Coastal’s Facebook page has been regularly updated with local travel and local issues, as well as heart-warming news stories from charities like Tia’s Treasures.

John King, Managing Director of the Coastal Radio Community Interest Company said, “This grant will enable the station to connect with and draw together local communities in the town and villages. Coastal will continue to be a community asset and influential local voice through local radio. He commended the station team for their tireless work in keeping the local community engaged while on and off-air, through social media and at local events” and added “Other towns in the region have their own community radio station and surely, Great Yarmouth deserves one! ”

Coastal Radio applied for a five year permanent FM broadcasting license in December and are awaiting its outcome. Coastal are actively recruiting volunteers, if you would like to get involved please contact them via their website www.CoastalRadio.co.uk or you will find them on Facebook.

FIRST TEAMS RACE TO SIGN UP FOR THE 2015 EAST ANGLIAN DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL!Following the launch of the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival, companies, clubs and organisations from across the region are getting their teams together and signing up to take part in this hugely popular event. The Dragon Boat Festival is returning to Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad in Lowestoft on Sunday 31st May after a gap of one year in aid of new Festival charity, East Coast Hospice, and the inter-company rivalry is already building!

The Great Yarmouth and Waveney area currently has no inpatient hospice care. Recognising this gaping hole in palliative care, the Festival’s official charity, East Coast Hospice (ECH), has purchased a five acre site near Beacon Park on the Hopton/Gorleston border and planning permission has been granted for a ten bed in-patient facility with complementary therapy rooms, day care and a peaceful garden. Margaret Chadd House will support patients and their families to live as well as they can for as long as they can and when the time comes, to support a dignified and peaceful journey at the end of life. The mammoth task of raising funds and building the hospice cannot be managed without support.

ECH Community Fundraiser, Jeff Wood, is hoping that as many local companies as possible will enter teams into the Dragon Boat Festival and raise sponsorship for this worthwhile local cause. For further information please visit www.dragonboatfestivals.co.uk/eastanglia or call Gable Events on 01780 470 718. REV ROSIE WRITES...... I am writing this having just come back from planting trees at Moorland School and in the

churchyard at Belton, as well as a wander around Burgh Castle Church with the Right Reverend Alan Winton, Bishop of Thetford. At Burgh Castle Church, the scaffolding is down and the improvements to the roof structure and internally in the north aisle are good to the eye, but “there is still much work to be done” as the Bishop commented! The important thing is that the church is in a better place to move on into the future, to the next stage of restoration (and of course, fundraising) for facilities that are appropriate for today.A lot of you will walk around the Roman Fort, enjoying the peace and quiet, taking time out, taking your dog for a walk. You will usually find the church open – as a place of prayer and reflection. Please do go in (once the builders have compled their work) and find space for yourself and with God.This morning I was reminded of something the Bishop of Norwich told me….. the story of a clergyman who told his congregation that the buildings should come before the people. It was prevocative statement, and meant to be! He went on to say that the purpose of church buildings was to be put before people, or in front of them if you prefer it expressed that way, as they were to be signs of God’s presence and of his people, reminders of God’s love and power. What has been great to see is the way the church members have been working together. Burgh Castle folk will obviously have to put the contents of the church building back once the project is finally finished and the church cleaned. But, the church is more than just the building.... it is the people. The people are the living stones that go to make up the church. With Jesus Christ as the foundation and corner stone it remains strong. Lent began on Wednesday 18th February and there will be a lot going on in both the churches leading up to the celebration of Easter at the beginning of April; the celebration of Mothers Day (15th March), the journey through Holy Week to Good Friday and then Easter Day. Do come and join in the celebrations of the church, whenever, and wherever you can. You would be made very welcome. Come in and find out what makes the church buildings, places that are so special. It is the people and the presence of God! Rev Rosie Bunn, Belton Rectory, Tel 01493 780210.

MESSY CHURCHMessy Church have their usual session at Moorlands School on Wednesday March 4th (6.00 – 7.30pm) and next month, yes on April 1st., Move to Belton Church for one session (again 6.00 -7.30pm) for “Messy Easter!” a Messy Church special production re-telling the Easter Story for all the family (Stories, crafts, activities, food and fun!).

    IST. BELTON SCOUTSGroup

In November the beavers, cubs and scouts where set a challenge to design a badge to celebrate 1st Belton Scout Groups 40th birthday. Congratulations to Dallas who is the winner just before half term he was presented with a prize and saw the badge for the first time. All group members are going to wear this badge on their uniforms.

    Beavers

The Beavers have been busy finishing off some items for their emergency aid stage 1 which they started at the district sleepover. Having a go at recovery position, how to put a plaster on correctly.

They had an excellent evening at Regent Bowl. They have also Started to look at our space badge. Harry on of the young leaders helped the beavers know about which planet is nearest to the sun.,it was surprising at how much the beavers already knew. We then went outside as it was a clear night to look at the stars and try to identify some using a app on our phones.

The beavers finished this half term making pancakes and playing a silly ball game.

Congratulations to Charlie who has been presented with his Bronze Chief Scout Award, the highest award that can be gained as a Beaver Scout.

    Cubs

The Cubs started the month with a Cub Scout forum, this was their chance to push forward their ideas for the programme for the coming months at Cubs, ideas ranged from a cub Olympics, hiking and games to raising money for charity.

They then started our home help badge and went on as part of it to cook muffins, pizza, cornflake cakes, sewed a button onto material and then ironed their own group scarf.

They have also learned about the planets, how far they are away from the sun and drawn the relative size of the planets with a compass. The next meeting we spent at Seething Observatory, looking at the difference between a star and a planet, expeditions into space as well as looking at stars in the sky, looking at telescopes. A great night!

    Scouts

The Scouts have spent this half term debating their scouting promise and laws, looking at how they fit into their everyday lives today.

They have looked at the world badge (every scout in the world wears a world badge) considered what the different parts mean and played some games to do with scouting history.

The scouts had an evening ten pin bowling before taking part in the district event and took part in the district swimming competition taking third place. Well done!

    Village Voice - March 2015

YOUNG AT HEART YaH enjoyed meeting every week in 2014 with just a fortnight off for the Christmas break. It’s great being able to see friends each week and share our week with others. The knitting, cake, cooking, card making, more cake, tea, outings, craft activities, food, things to share, support and friendship, even more cake, the love of Jesus, coffee, biscuits, communion, Tally Ho! Tea Rooms with lots of cake!

    What fun!

This year we have enjoyed learning more about our sponsored boy, his family and way of life. Members write a few sentences about what we get up to during the year in reply so Wilson, from Ecuador, also learns about us.

Since August last year our happy band of oldies or wrinklies, as some kind person suggested, has been overshadowed by the news shock of Jane’s illness. We’re glad to report that she has had some very good days among the bad ones. At the beginning of February Jane received a stem cell transplant at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. By the time this Village Voice reaches you there should only be a few weeks left before Jane joins us again for coffee & chat. Oh my! ……..The chat!...... Where will we begin?......... Will we ever stop?

We have a new timetable available for 2015 so if you want to know where and what we’re up to call in at the Church Lounge on any Tuesday morning between 10.00 and noon. Everyone is welcome for all or part of any session. There is no charge but a donation pot is available to help “keep the wheels turning” if you are able to contribute.

It will be great to see you there....

    Marion.

Part of this article is from the 2014 annual report from YaH which was unfortunately missed from an earlier edition – Our apologies – Editor.

    HOLISTIC HEALTH COLUMN

I am writing this column from Om Shanti Retreat Centre outside Delhi on a sunny day. I am sitting at the pyramid of life-science contemplating my life and why I love India so much. The science of life is ever evolving – spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. We cannot see the more subtle levels of evolution in ourselves, but we can feel when we are out of balance. To remain in balance we have to balance on all our levels of being, not just the body. Think of how we describe ourselves – as a “human- being”, meaning we have a part that is human – our body made of matter and a part that is subtle - our being or soul/ spirit. In western culture not much attention is paid to developing a spiritual practice to nurture the higher self. Meditation is one of the best practices for this. If the mind is out of balance it will create a negative feeling in the body which we recognise as dis-ease. If this becomes habitual we will indeed create disease in the physical body. We can

all recognise the feelings that stress creates and we will do many things to alleviate it, so we know that mind and body are linked and one influences the other. Mind is also connected to Soul – that eternal spark of pure consciousness that is my eternal self. It is important to stay connected to who we are spiritually to maintain total well-being. As I look at the side of the pyramid I am reminded of the analogy of the Divine Triangle – the eternal interplay of body, mind and soul. Each angle of the triangle represents one facet of the three and all need to be in alignment to create harmony and flow. Along the baseline of the triangle, the right corner represents body, the left corner mind and the pinnacle is soul or spirit. This can also be called the Divine. In ancient Greece the Divine meant “That which is beneficial to all”. When I attune to the divinity in me – my higher self or soul – I am naturally in the flow that the Greeks were referring to. I will automatically make the right decisions and consider the well-being of others as well as my own. When I feel out of balance I am probably operating only along the baseline of the triangle, the interplay between body and mind. I may sometimes use force

to get what I want or get angry when things don’t go right for me. This kind of negative energy will create a block to my success. To clear the block, or false mindset, I can connect to my higher self or soul, intuiting what is best for me and those in connection with me. I will come into alignment with the Divine flow which connects me on a higher level of conscious energy, bringing Mind and Body into alignment or “flow” with my higher consciousness. This ability to connect can be learned through meditation courses at Diamond Life Holistic Centre in Great Yarmouth and will put you in charge of your well-being. The introductory meditation course is on Thursday mornings and is by donation. The Aroma Yoga meditation sessions use high vibration essential oils to enhance the experience and are on a Wednesday night and cost £5. Call for more information and other self development courses and therapies for your body, mind and spirit:

    Village Voice - March 2015

BURGH CASTLE CHURCH RESTORATION FUNDBurns Night - It may have been a week after the original date but Burgh Castle celebrated Robbie Burns birthday in style on January 31st. The village hall was transformed into a Scottish Banqueting Hall, with music, dancing, games and most of all a great deal of fun enjoyed by everyone.

A traditional Scottish menu of Cock ‘a’ Leekie Soup, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties followed by Cranacan was served by our splendid team of volunteer cooks. The Haggis being paraded to a rousing rendition of Scotland the Brave by all present. We have already been asked to repeat the event in 2016!

The thank you’s are many and heartfelt, if you gave, waited on table, cooked, donated, washed up or just advised, you know who you are THANK YOU.

Total receipts for this event are just over one thousand pounds!

Quiz Nights - The monthly quiz at the Queens Head on 6th February was a very jolly affair. 6 teams battled for victory, and a good time was enjoyed by all and a valuable £75 was raised for Restoration Funds. Next month we do it all again at The Queens Head on March 6th 8pm. Please join us if you can.

Crafts Fair -Looking forward in our calendar, the next planned event is the craft fair during the Easter school holidays from 6 - 10th April, this venture was very successful when we held a fair in October last year. Please book now for stalls (details below).

Looking forward - Keith Skipper is visiting in May, we are collecting items for our Market Stall to be held in July, and volunteers and cakes are needed for our open churches week during August.

As usual more information can be had by contacting any church member or calling Margaret on 780126 (email [email protected]).

COMMUNITY CAR SCHEMEMembers met on 10th February, thanks to Bill for taking notes. The main topic was the fall in passengers numbers over the past couple of months. It was decided to continue with the advertising for drivers, there is always the need to cover for holidays etc. and to renew posters around the village, as well as reminding local surgeries and clinics of the fact the service is available to our residents.

Although funds are now at only £90.00, it was agreed not to request any grants from Parish Councils until after the May elections.

We are grateful to Angela who has taken over the administration task

of arranging trips and pleased to welcome Kevin as a new driver. The date for the next meeting was arranged for 4th June at 2pm.

Remember you can book a car to take you shopping, to social events, connections for holiday travel or medical appointments. We ask for at least 24 hours notice as all our drivers are volunteers, but are very willing to do our best to help. We will go to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, or get you to the JPH for an early appointment.

Drivers usually wait with the passenger, but for a longer appointment will arrange to return to collect you. If you have a small child you will need to provide a booster seat, pets can be taken by arrangement.

Costs are 45p per mile, payable to the driver. If you would like to become a driver please get in touch.

To book a car please call

FUTURE OF G.P. PRACTICES We have received an open letter from the Great Yarmouth & Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group on the future of GP Practices in Gorleston (and Bradwell), the letter states. “You may have heard a rumour that one or more of the GP practices in Gorleston is going to be closed. I want to reassure you that this is absolutely not the case.

There are five GP practices in Gorleston – Gorleston Medical Centre (on the Shrublands site), Family Health Centre, Falkland, Millwood and Central. Three of these practices face challenges in the future with their accommodation.

In the summer on 2015, we will be consulting with the public about the possibility of some of the central Gorleston practices relocating to a new primary care centre on the James Paget site. At the moment we don’t know which practices may or may not move, and when it will happen, because this will all be part of the consultation. The consultation will give local people the chance to have their say.

What is most important here is to be clear that the practices will not be closing. But some of them may relocate to the hospital site. If this happens, there will be many benefits for patients from the practices working more closely together.”

    A SPRINGERS TAILLennie’s version

I am the apple of my Mum’s eye, Lennie boy aka Sugar pud, I never do anything wrong and I have followers from all across the globe. I even got Christmas cards from Oz and USA, people have my photos in their homes my Mum signs them for me. My only problem is Sylvie, she is such a bossy boots, always telling me to do this and that, usually trying to get me into as much trouble as her.

Well things are changing because I have a brother; I went with Mum to pick him up. I always knew he was coming unlike Sylvie and Dad who had no idea but Mum and I had picked him out weeks before he arrived. In looks he is the total opposite of me where I am white he is brown but we both have the same big almond eyes and the wonky markings on our noses which makes us even more hansom.

From day one I told him to follow me and do everything I tell him, his name is Harley and he is a real live wire. He keeps Sylvie on her toes and everyone else as well. When Sylvie takes my toys Harley gets them back, Sylvie thought she could

jump but Harley can jump higher and I control him, even Mum has told him to stay with me and learn what I do, I don’t think she had the same things as me in mind when she said that though.

Sylvie growls at him and where I would run and hide from Sylvie, Harley just growls back or take the toys straight out of her mouth. I snigger because Sylvie is no longer in charge and while she is busy trying to keep him under control I get away with all kinds of things, why just the other day while we were visiting a friend Harley was entertaining everyone with Sylvie while I was eating all the cheese straws in Mum’s friends kitchen haha. Mind you Harley beat me to the stuffing on Boxing Day from our kitchen and anyone beating me to food is pretty unheard of.

Harley is more adventurous like Sylvie as I never venture more than a few feet from my mum, but he is really good I taught him well he comes straight back when called, Sylvie has been trying her best to get him to follow her into the smelly dykes but so far he has more sense because he is very smart like me. Only one problem with him is he thinks he is Mummy’s boy and that of course is my place Sylvie is Daddies Girl, I am

Mummy’s boy and Harley needs to learn to share. He is 8 months and already bigger than Sylvie. He was so good over Christmas leaving the tree and all the presents alone for 3 weeks, but on Christmas morning when we opened our presents he thought everything was his or at least all the wrapping paper was his which was good because Sylvie and me got all the presents while he played with the paper. I liked that and will remind him next year how good the Christmas wrapping paper is.

Harley loves chasing seagulls it is his favourite pass time when they fly away he is so silly he continues to chase their shadows on the ground he hasn’t worked out yet that they are flying above his head.

Well I am pleased Harley is here to keep Sylvie on her toes and since his arrival Sylvie has been much kinder to me as she keeps saying we two older ones should keep him in his place, she can speak for herself I won’t be four till February so I am just a Spring Springer, Sylvie will be six this year I am watching to see if she gets middle age spread and I will keep you posted,

Harley wants to tell a Springers Tail about us so to be continued........
