COMMUNITY members of the informalsettlement in Seatides, La Mercy cameout in their numbers on Saturday pro

testing the lack of service delivery.Residents gathered on Saturday night,

burning tree stubs, tyres and smashing glassexpressing their displeasure at ward councillor Mxolisi Nzimbomvu.

According to residents on scene, theywere promised homes before the nationalelections on Wednesday, 7 May, but had

been told that Nzimbomvu was allegedlyselling homes for R5 000 to residents in other areas of the ward. When Nzimbomvu arrived at the scene, residents chased him andhis bodyguards.

One irate resident Bongani Mtetwa saidthat he will not allow his family to berobbed. “This man never visits our area atall. We are living on a hill that is a mudslidewhen it rains. They come to us and they sayyou must vote for a better future. We givethem what they want and now he is robbingus to make money for himself.

“It is unacceptable. We live like beggarswith our families while he walks around withhis security guards like a boss.”

Another resident, who did not want tobe named, said Nzimbomvu had plans to gohigher up in eThekwini Municipality.

“Itseemslikeallhedoesiscomehereandmake promises. He is being paid to lie andact like someone who cares about us.”

Speaking to the Weekly Nzimbomvusaid he believed other political parties had“poisoned” the township.

“We, as councillors, do not decide whogets homes, only the housing departmentcan do this.” He said that 1 850 families weremeant to benefit from the Waterloo, Hammonds Farm project, but numbers were anissue in Seatides.

“There are new people coming in all thetime and they are not allowing the ones whohave been here for a long time to get theirhomes. With people continually coming into the area, we find it hard to move forward.I believe a lot of these new people have beenhampering development and I want to appeal to the community to speak to me. Weneed structures in place to avoid these issues and we must all be of sober mind,” saidNzimbomvu.

IAMnotafanof themedia.Rather,Iamnotafanofwhatisincreasing-ly known as the ‘mainstreamme-dia’ (MSM), which can be de-scribed as “those media dissemi-nated via the largest distributionchannels, which therefore repre-sent what the majority of mediaconsumersare likely toencounter.Thetermalsodenotesthose me-dia generally reflective of theprevailing currents of thought, influence, or activity.”

The emphasis in the last sen-tence is mine, and it is here thatI find most of my frustration withthe MSM coming to the fore; notbecause they reflect the “prevail-ing currents of thought, influence,or activity”, but because MSMvery often dictate these things in-stead of reflecting them.

In other words, mainstreammedia very often tell us whatwe shouldbethinkingandsayingand what we should be doing, while localmedia have a tenden-cy toreflectwhat we are thinkingand saying and what we are do-ing. This is done irrespective ofour thoughts or actions fitting intoa politically correct world viewwhich is largely driven by (drum-roll) the MSM.

It is for thisreasonthat Ibelievelocal/community media to be apurerform of news disseminationthan national or internationalMSM. This may also be one of thereasonsthatlocalnewsisoneofthefewgrowth sectors in printmedia.

Localmediahave thebenefit ofintimacy – meaning readers areable to quickly verify articles onissues that take place in their im-mediate surroundings.

This means the ability to holdaccountable the newspaper or aquoted source is easier than with

nationalorinternationalstoriesorjournalists.

Too, local media publishunique copy; stories that are notplastered all over the Internet onan hourly basis via aggregation.

For the uninformed, aggrega-tion is the new black when itcomes to expeditiously repackag-ing breaking news, or simply fill-ing daily online copy quotas.

Copy quotas are the most re-cent golden calf for media execu-tives.

Driving online traffic throughregular copy uploading is intend-ed towhet theappetiteofpotentialonline advertisers and thus sup-plementdwindling printadvertis-ing revenue.

As foraggregation, itmeanswehaveaccess to the samestoryovermanyInternet sites, but the moredisturbing factor is the potentialfor plagiarism and a lessening ofaccountability.Whoexactlydoyoucall if you find an error in a storythat has been aggregated and dis-seminated across 10 online titles?

Mainstreammediaarebattling– as their own projections, re-search and ubiquitous navel-gaz-ing reveal.

Cuts in advertising spendingdue to ‘the economy’ and loss ofreadership due to social mediahave had a very real impact onshrinking news rooms and reve-nue.

Despite this, there isalso the is-sue of content which needs to beaddressed by our MSM friends.

It is time they shift their gazefrom their navels and try less su-perficial introspection when itcomestowhat theypublish,whichveryoftenbordersonliberal-lean-ing activism instead of reporting.

The word ‘activism’ fits snugly

with theword ‘agenda’,which theMSM would do well toremember, given that they are often accusedof agendas and bias.

SWASTIKASINGH RAI

INGXENYE yobumnandi bokuba nomngani ukuthi uzinqumela wena ukubangumngani nomuntu othile, njengami

engazinqumela ukuba wumngani noNyikinyibhoxo, umfo kaNdosi.

Akufani nokuba nomzali, umfowenunoma udadewenu ngoba awuzikhethelibona.

Okumnandi kakhulu yize kuba nzimaekubeni nomngani, ukufinyelela esinqumweni sokuphuma noma sokubuqeda lobobungani uma sekuqubuka izimo obonasengathi zizokufaka enkathazweni.Kodwa kuba nomngani omane ubone ukuthi kufanele umbekezelele noma ngabekwenzekani, njengaye uNyikinyibhoxo.

OkaNdosi unomkhutshana wokuthiuma kukhona afuna ukukubhodla, ezekimina athi angimbuzele kinina bafundiukuthi nithini ngombono noma umbuzoothile anawo.

Nango phela esefika kwami njengokujwayelekile engicela ukuthi ngimbuzele kinina bafundi ukuthi nithini ngombonokamhlonishwa uMnuz Julius Malema wokuthi amalungu ePhalamende kufanele angalutholi usizo lokwelashwa (medicalaid), nokuthi izingane zawo zifunde ezikoleni zikaHulumeni zingayi ezikoleni ezizimele (private schools), lezi ezidume ngelika ‘Model C’.

UMnuz Malema uthe ukholwa wukuthi

uma amalungu ePhalamende engasebenzisa izikhungo zempilo zomphakathi, nezingane zawo ziye ezikoleni zikaHulumeniezisetshenziswa ngezinye izingane, zingalungiswa ngokukhulu ukushesha izimoezidala ukuthi kugcine sekukhona imibhikisho.

Angikholwa ukuthi kukhona owaziyoukuthi umfo kaNdosi uphuza kumuphi umfula kwezombusazwe noma kwezepolitiki.Nami uma ngimbuza ukuthi ungakuphikwezepolitiki umane athi:

“Niyahlupha nina zintatheli ngobaumuntu unele abeke umbono noma abuzeokuthile, bese niyantaza ngemiqondoyenu ethanda ukuqhatha, nimhlanganiseneqembu elithile kanti umbono wumbono

nje kuphelele lapho.”Uqhuba uthi: “Ngiyamthanda uMale

ma, noma ngingesiyena umlandeliweqembu lakhe iEconomic FreedomFighters (ECC), ngoba nabazama ukumziba bazogcina bemnakile.

Sekwenzeka lento eyashiwo wuNkkWinnie Mandela ethi ‘abaziba uMalema’badlala ngegeja kuziliwe.

Futhi uma zithathelwa phezulu leziziphakamiso zokuphucwa kwamalunguePhalamende ama ‘medical aid’, azomaemigqeni emide yasezibhedlela nakwezinye izikhungo zezempilo zomphakathinjengathi, ingashesha intuthuko.

Mhlawumbe kungaba yima eqala ukubona ukuthi kusuke sekufike kuliphi izinga

lapho abantu sebevuka umbhejazane, bebhikisha nanxa ngingasho ukuthi yiyonandlela efanele yokutshengisa ukungagculiseki leyo. Asazi.

Sobona sekwenzeka, nanka amehlo

ephahle umbombo. Kodwa angikhathaliukuthi ubani uthini, iqiniso lithi ufikileuMalema neEFF yakhe,” kusho umfo kaNdosi ezelula.

Ngibona sengathi sekufike laphouzoshesha khona ngempela umshuwalense wezempilo kazwelonke (NationalHealth InsuranceNHI) ahlale ekhulumangawo uNgqongqoshe wezeMpilo uDktAaron Motsoaledi.

Engikuthanda ngoDkt Motsoaledi ukuthi naye uyazisebenzisa izikhungo zezempilo zomphakathi.

Sibona sengathi lungashesha futhinohlelo oluhlongozwe nguNdunankuluwesifundazwe uMnuz Senzo Mchunu esanguNgqongqoshe wezeMfundo lokuthikwenyuswe izinga ezikoleni ezithile zomphakathi lilingane nalezo ezizimele ezibizwa ngo ‘Model C’.

Engineqiniso lokuthi ngeke kwehlekahle emiphinjeni yabo okushiwo nguMnuz Malema, yilabo abakleza beklezile embeleni wesikhwama seMedical Aid.

Kodwa njengoba kusho umfo kaNdosi, lolu daba ngilubeka ezithebeni zenubafundi sizwe ukuthi nithini ngombonowendoda yezibomvu. Thumela ismsenombolweni ethi:074 696 8731 nomauthumele ngekheli leemail elithi: guy.ve[email protected].

Akka, I no longer see your face orhear your voice. All I have of you are photos which I will treasure forever. Youwere always there for me when I needed you and that I will never forget. Imiss you very much and think of you in my daily prayers. Until such time weall meet again, I ask for your guidance. Thank you for being my sister.
